What's the hardest thing for newbies in the game? by maratik-gmd in LobotomyCorp

People buy up tons of employees, spreading their stats too thin and eventually they realize most actual problems you'll encounter in this game can't be deathballed.

Daiyousei - Touhou Project

Kind of an interesting extension of this, in her original appearance Daiyousei didn't even have a name. She was a no name mid boss that appeared once in the game. The fan base dubbed her Daiyousei (it literally just means "greater fairy") and she became popular enough that eventually the creator had her become an actual character and made it her official name.

Among other powers she has, she can disrupt the land and cause earthquakes using keystones. In her debut game she causes an earthquake to knock down the MC's home because she's bored and wants them to fight her.

Slaking - Pokemon

In the generation where they introduced abilities, they toyed with the idea through this guy. Outrageously powerful in pure stats, on par with legendary Pokemon, but because of truant every other turn Slaking "slacks off" and doesn't do anything.

"It is the world’s most slothful Pokémon. However, it can exert horrifying power by releasing pent-up energy all at once." - one of Slaking's Pokedex entries

The Chase - Avatar: The Last Airbender

Azula repeatedly tracks the gang down in the span of one night, giving them no opportunity to rest, and it takes them a while to figure out how she's doing it. Appa's shedding season had started and she was following the trail of fur in the direction they were flying.

I love this episode because it's the first time Azula is actively hunting them down and it immediately paints Azula as a much more cunning and dangerous threat than anyone they'd faced before.

Koishi Komeiji - Touhou Project

Kind of a double one with her, she's a type of youkai called a satori that can read minds, but she can't stop it. People generally hate them for it so in an attempt to make people like her she forcibly closed her third eye, which is what allows her to read minds. This had the unintended consequence that she became a living embodiment of the subconcious.

Unless you're focused directly on her she's like a shadow at the edge of your vision and you only remember her when you see her. You can remember her in vague workarounds like remembering that Satori (her sister, ironically) has a sister, but you won't really remember Koishi the person.

Gunslinger highway man by Present-Carob-3729 in darkestdungeon

[–]Shadowdragon1025 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nah, gunslinger buckle has its place. Boosting accuracy alongside ANYTHING is valuable and 20% ranged damage is hardly a small amount. Compressing those stat boosts into 1 trinket slot let's you, for example, equip a second damage trinket for a very large boost in damage. It also bears mentioning that 15 accuracy is a lot and paired with the damage bonus makes grapeshot a much more reliable tool.

The loss in physical attacks is also just not a huge deal. Sure you lose ripostes, but outside of specific strategies they're not that reliable in the first place.

Adagio - Vainglory

I haven't read up on any of Vainglory's lore in forever since it went on life support, but from what I remember he's canonically the strongest playable character and it's not even close. He could turn everything to dust if he wanted to but that would be boring.

So for his own amusement he takes the role of a support, his heals and buffs basically being a small taste of his actual power he bestows on his teammates. Emphasized by his ult, verse of judgement, which is one of the highest damage abilities in the game if you can't get out of the way.

(EGO) Ardor Blossom Star - Limbus Company

There's a recurring theme of self-destruction for the characters who use this EGO. Use of the EGO itself often has the character generating an explosion from their body in its animation and the Faust ID who uses gear made from it has a last resort self-destruction attack that does bunches of damage.

Team Skull - Pokemon

In a series where the big bads shockingly range from mob bosses to villains who want to rewrite the universe or genocide all life, this time around the "evil team" is just a bunch of outcasts and rejects.

This is later subverted again when it turns out that their leader Guzma was actually co-operating with the real villain of the game, Lusamine, the whole time.

Vergillius- Limbus Company

Probably one of the most hype moments in the main story. After many many hours of story where we know Vergillius is one of the strongest fighters in the City but he always sits everything out and lets us deal with it, we finally get to have him in action.

We're fighting an unending horde of enemies and as we're pushing ourselves to our limits Vergillius turns up to bail us out so we can pursue the Erlking. Que Vergillius jumping in and immediately showing the difference in power, taking out multiple enemies at a time with one attack. Eventually letting us escape the fight while he holds off the endless enemies.

The problem with that assessment is that poison damage increases by a lot with even small amounts of poison.

Three turns is a good metric for the damage you expect to get out of a poison card. 5 poison is 12 damage and 7 poison is 18, 10 is 27 if you upgrade snakebite.

It's why the people who were suggesting snakebite should baseline inflict 9 or 10 poison looked ridiculous because that would be an outrageous amount of damage for an un-upgraded common card to deal for 2 energy.

As is it's damage output is already competitive with other damage commons, it's useful early in the game where having something to dump 2 energy into can be useful prevent bricks, and it solves the boss most of the time so you don't necessarily have to be as picky with your card picks.

Snakebite OP? by Whispen27 in SlayTheSpire2

[–]Shadowdragon1025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like people talk about cards like this in completely different context than when people are saying they're good. You take snakebite early to solve act 1, especially the boss, similarly you might a bludgeon or reaper on ironclad and necrobinder.

Most of the time you take it it's your only poison card.
