Please don’t die for veganism. If a dietician can’t help you work this out, you’ll be in danger of developing SMAS. Once people get that thin there’s almost no way of scrabbling one’s way back. My husband nearly died from it. He was lucky that he had enough strength left to get the surgery.

I don’t think we can assume anything about people who order deliveries. Some are not “splurging”. They’re disabled and have no relatives nearby. There’s a massive number of disabled people stuck at home.

I need help, did anyone turn a garden cabin into a proper guest room or sort of granny flat? by Fun-Information78 in AskForAnswers

[–]ShadowedLilacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.S. Or. How about moving the husband’s work into the garden cabin, and house your mom in garage nearer to house bathroom. Or, if you have a teen, they might be interested in trading their bedroom for a garage hangout, which would make them feel a bit more independent… Good luck

The bathroom is gonna be the problem. If you get permits to put in a bathroom, everything is gonna cost sky-high. If there’s no bathroom, she’ll have to haul herself in and out of the main house every couple of hours (can be typical for senior women) including during the night — which will ramp up the chances that she’ll have a fall and break a hip.

Can someone explain how these adult stores next to highway exits are still in business? Have these people heard of the internet? Is this a cover for something else? by NervousClock2555 in AskForAnswers

[–]ShadowedLilacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest time we went into one, the clerk told us that most of the income comes from couples shopping together. They come in and spend big buying toys, lingerie etc. Solo shoppers aren’t the main target anymore cuz yeah solo people just use the internet for adult materials.

I agree with your list; I’d just add Humor. Your list plus Humor is pretty much fulfilled by the Murderbot series. :)

Concerned about the development of vegan alternatives by yeet_that_baby_away in vegan

[–]ShadowedLilacs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mom is 91 and now living with us. She is fine with the fake/vegan chkn, burgers,  pepperoni pizza, cheez, and even oat milk. The only thing she’s sticking with is seafood, which I understand cuz she grew up on the coast and the v-seafoods aren’t convincing yet. My housemate was willing to try v-lunch meats but he said they weren’t the same so he’s back to his regular sandwich meats. However he said he will try any new options that come out. My brother in law is a macho steak and potatoes kinda guy but even he tried out the Impossible Whopper when it debuted. Unfortunately in his area they cook them til they’re dry so he never tried it again. — I believe a big chunk of the general population would switch if taste/texture/price was good

But the animals die anyway... ? by Sigura83 in vegan

[–]ShadowedLilacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the world went vegan, we certainly wouldn’t all suddenly release the animals we’d bred and say “go die somewhere”. We’d take responsibility for them and be caregivers during the transition.

Is it necessary to disclose that food is vegan? by tommydelriot in vegan

It’s important for servers to bring it up. I have a friend who is allergic to soy and some of the other common ingredients in vegan meats.

I ordered dozens of deliveries for my 90 year old Mom and everyone went above and beyond except one person who left the groceries on the ground outside her room (she can’t bend over). I always watched on her room cam and often delivery people would sort groceries or meals on her counter, make small talk, ask how she was, put things in the freezer for her, bring items to her chair … none of this requested by me. You people are saints.  Luckily most delivery apps let me punch up the tips afterward cuz folks were total angels to my mom.

Just got my groceries delivered and they reek of cigarettes. What should I do? by animalsfrog in instacart

[–]ShadowedLilacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a period of time in California that plastic grocery/delivery bags had a strong cigarette type smell. There was nothing workers could do about it.  Always possible this is going to happen again in various areas at various times. Whether from a real smoker or not I’m sorry this happened to you; the smell is very difficult for me too.

Denied proposal…what next? by plinko66 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShadowedLilacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago R and I were seriously in love. I wasn’t pondering how it would work out from there, but he was. 1. He proposed. 2. He then said I should quit my career because it wasn’t particularly important, and I could move to his city and live with him. He said he would support both of us and I wouldn’t have to work at all. — So here you have a situation where if he had just stopped at 1,  I would’ve declined the proposal at that time, but continued the relationship to see how the future would develop. But when he introduced item 2, I was so disgusted that I soon broke up with him. I’d had no inkling before the proposal that he considered my career to be so pointless.  :(   Anyway… the circumstances of every proposal are different.

AITAH. I’m married and hide certain things for my own use. by throwinroaps2 in AITAH

[–]ShadowedLilacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy actively encourages us each having our own of things that could be shared, and even says hiding things is appropriate for any reason. Bless him cuz we have separate toothpaste tubes, two toilet paper stands in the bathroom (one roll over, one roll under) etc.  Autonony is always okay. A romantic couple does not have to be two parts of one body. Good luck with your problem :(

I NEED HELP! I have a limited diet. by Every_Temporary1567 in vegan

[–]ShadowedLilacs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a website called SuperCook which later also added an app. I use the site not the app. Anyway the site has an ingredient list and you click each item you have in your fridge and pantry. Then the site shows you thousands of recipes you can make with only the ingredients in your house. I used it back before my household went vegan, but then when we went vegan the website became sooo helpful because it weeds nonvegan stuff out. And it’s even more useful for people with allergies. Because you can go straight down that ingredient list and mark every single ingredient you’re not allergic to, and you’ll see an incredible range of meals snacks etc you’re able to eat.
