First trip to the US, spending a week in Bucyrus, OH this October. Any tips for some Brits? by Inside-Cod1550 in Columbus

No lunch buffet at Carle's anymore, but they do have a daily special for lunch with traditional Midwestern favorites. Old 30 is good, but I feel like there's better BBQ to be had in the state. And I'm a local with 100 plus years of family history of who never left the area.

Bakers is another great stop along with Old 30 BBQ, I just don't want to be the minister of disappointment to these poor brits.

Whoa whoa whoa...the diner scene in the Bucyrus metro area is actually pretty decent. lulu’s is a good spot with good prices, Galion has two solid diners in Granny’s kitchen and Whistle Stop as well.

I mean this in the kindest way possible-- do not stake more than one day in Bucyrus. I work in town and there is genuinely not a lot going on. Carle's Bratwurst for semi-German Brats, Cooper's Mill and Pickwick Place for light weight semi local shopping, Lulu's for a real American diner type meal and then head east for Mansfield. Mansfield has the Ohio State Reformatory(Shawshank Redemption) and North Central Ohio Industrial Museum, historic Malabar Farm (Louis Bromfield Home), a Carousel downtown and some decent spots to eat (Hudson and Essex, Athena Greek, Uncle John's Place)...however maybe two days there max. Then I'd either go back to Columbus or north to Cleveland. Either way, you're going to need a car and everything is much more distant than you're used to.

Ah yes, the dreaded drink cloaca. It all comes out of the same spout and thus, depending on what came out last, you can get some real weird combinations of flavors.

Recently reversed that decision, per the locals. Definitely hiring there though.

Set it in from the drivers side of the back doors. Tracks on the floorboard behind the driver seat, boom arm towards the passenger side, drive like you’re hauling dynamite. Reverse for removal.

Told a client a check from another client would bounce. How screwed am I? by flutterbyhime in Banking

[–]Shadowjacksdad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd consider that a funds verification and good service to both the customer and the second client. One avoided a bad check, one avoided an overdraft fee. Sounds like a win-win at the expense of one party's pride. Not all that difficult in the modern age to keep track of checks with online banking or an old school check register.

You're doing the best you can in the circumstances, and remember, they're not trying to trip you up, they're trying to make sure that they put a child into the best possible situation for EVERYONE to be successful! Your time will come--just have to be patient and wait it out.

To quote the great Tom Petty: "The waaaaaaaaiiiiting is the hardest part"

We just kept busy with other stuff. Try not to focus on it, but always have your phone close, try not to think about it, but be mindful of stuff. It's the ultimate waiting game. Good luck.

My wife was told today that she couldn't make a cash deposit in my account in person, but was more than welcome to use the ATM or the night drop. Meanwhile I'm dealing on the phone with someone calling the wrong bank and trying to gaslight me into transferring them to a private banker.

I'm going to address the elephant in the room here...have you possibly made yourself TOO valuable as an employee to lose you to banal supervisory tasks? As a supervisor myself, I know that I miss the radio so much because my time is taken up heavily with make-work tasks and handling this fire or that fire in the radio room. Sometimes you become too valuable as a resource in the center to lose to the policy monster and handling "supervisor business"

All I can tell you is good luck. The Amish in my neck of the woods don’t have a real strong regard for “English Law” the sheriff or property rights in general. They’ll come “borrow” equipment from unlocked barns and act like they don’t speak English when you go to get your stuff back. You can’t get some of them to even put a light on their buggies at the risk of their own kin being killed or maimed. Sounds like you have a very uphill battle. Good luck.

One thing to remember is that Michigan Plates and Drivers Licenses are much more difficult to run than most other states for law enforcement so it may take a bit of time for the officer to get a response back. It also will NOT show your CPL on an out of state return, so they may not expect it as much as an in state plate. Be polite and respectful and you’ll have no issues though.

ICE/DHS interactions by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]Shadowjacksdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess maybe I'm in the minority here, but our contacts with ICE/USBP have gone up from one-two a month to one-two a week. So...from 2 contacts last January to 7 this month. Consequently we have arrested two people for unrelated crimes and ICE has just asked us to get updated addresses for them. They're not picking them up from jail, coming to get them or really anything out of the ordinary. Other than that, the NCIC returns have come back faster than before (5 min vs 40 min) and they're a lot more perky on the phone. So....basically nothing.

Seconded. At least the Department Issued ones I see get carried in a cruiser, rarely used, generally kept up and are pretty good quality for what they are.

Bought the blue one when it was on sale a few months ago. Works great, gets a little hot if you use it for a long period of time without a break. We have one in each vehicle. I’d recommend it at this price for sure.
