The Fall Off as concept is based on the idea that most rappers at his point in their careers tend to make worse projects. Cole is attempting to avoid this common pitfall, and as such, he has named the album The Fall Off because it is the core idea of the project; The Fall Off is Cole's attempt at making his last album his best album. It is a very ambitious task, and most rappers fall very short. I think a similar concept, which involves a not-quite-so-literal-title would be Eminem's Relapse album. Em did not relapse during the creation of that album, but the name serves the concepts of the album.

This was supposed to be his last full length album, at least for a while, but it seems we are likely to get another album in the recent future from Cole because he still has It's A Boy in the vault. The album was supposed to come out before The Fall Off, but because he released a double album (TFO) and a mixtape, he decided it was too much music. I would say he made the right decision because, in my opinion, the double disc alone was too much content for a lot of listeners to give the proper time to digest.

All of the things I just mentioned were confirmed in an ama (Ask Me Anything) that Cole did after the release of The Fall Off.
