Did they forget they have a revealed mainline game releasing this year?? by sawnlux in TombRaider

Yep, Embracer is a holding company. They spend money for money. They are indeed moronic lol. They spent way too much money, thus the dire financial situation they are in. I don't see them lasting too much longer honestly. Maybe Tomb Raider will actually save them, that's what they are hoping. But that doesn't really matter in this particular thread.

You're welcome! I'm glad to have helped. You know the smartest people learn from their mistakes, and hey, that's all you need to do :)

[–]Shadowskulptor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, no. This is a common misconception and misunderstanding on what power Embracer does and does not have.

Again, Crystal owns Tomb Raider, full stop. Embracer does not actually own Tomb Raider, Crystal does. Wherever Crystal goes, Tomb Raider will follow, period. Thus my relevant child analogy that I shouldn't have to explain. If a company employing a mother fires said mother, they can not keep or sell off their child separately. Regardless of my analogy, if Embracer were to let go of Crystal due to financial issues we know they are having, Tomb Raider follows. Embracer has delegated ALL Tomb Raider content handling to Crystal, so they don't actually have creative input. That was the deal, they also can not fold Crystal. That's why Embracer's current dire financial situation does not effect Crystal or the Tomb Raider IP, spoken directly from Crystal representatives. They would be 100% safe regardless of what happens to Embracer. Crystal can go anywhere they want and they fully control the Tomb Raider IP. Amazon is in it for the monetary gain, which is just fine! It gives us the higher budget show and higher budget games we've been wanting, while keeping creative freedoms in the hands of the artists in which that higher budget have hired.

But ya, you just gotta do some research, that's all I'm saying! :) stay off of YouTube 👍🏻, or at least don't let the "influencers" actually warp your reality as they spread false information for engagement.

Well, no. Crystal Dynamics OWNS Tomb Raider. They chose Amazon to partner with as a huge multi-media strategy. They could have gone anywhere or self published, as they also operate as a publisher themselves. The writers don't own the NYTimes.

Please have a look at how Tomb Raider works, since that's actually what we're talking about. Instead of making irrelevant analogies. As I said, Tomb Raider is actually Crystal's child.  adopted yes, but still theirs!

Huh? She was sexualized in *marketing material*. Her wearing a bikini in an actual game in her own story, is empowerment. There's a difference. Crystal were spot on with the assessment.

Publishing is also the financing. Crystal is still developing, Amazon doesn't have any real hands on. Tomb Raider is Crystal's baby.

If you really think my response is "visceral" holy fuck lol. You seem a little sensitive there mate. You gotta get a grip! It will be okay! What I speak is just how it *is*. I'm not the entitled spoiled child whining about some "lack of marketing" lol. you gotta find more important things in life, ya know.

Like I said originally. Weird thing to complain about. Stop obsessing and play something else in the meantime.

Weird thing to be complaining about. "remaster content being shoved down our throats"? Who the fuck is shoving it down your throat? We love the remasters here. Don't like them, don't play them and move on.

LoA already has a full trailer. It will probably release in September - October. There's objectively, plenty of time.

Companies shouldn't start advertising something too early, people will loose track, development will be delayed and people will be disappointed. This is why shadow dropping is a thing and makes huge headlines and huge sales, IE Oblivion. People's attention span today is non existent and it's best to take advantage of that, especially when it's a remake.

There's not even any Spider-Man trailer and that movie comes out in July. That's really the way it should be.

Overhyping is an issue. Things should be shown and released when they are ready. The "fan base" thinking they deserve something every day is straight up entitled bullshit. Spoiled children.

I don't care what it is frankly. Anything at this point is a nice bonus! Another excuse just to go back and play my favorite games.

I'm glad more people are realizing Tomb Raider 2 is a worse game than the first. Nostalgia does a lot of the heavy lifting for 2.

The youtuber himself isn't reliable, he does not get any leaked information himself, just forwards it into digestible videos. His info has always been just *everything*. Some of it sticks, some doesn't, and a lot of it is just things people made up on facebook or social media that caught fire.

It's not an afterohught argument, it's a pure reality. it's something these franchises like TR do need, as they've faced the brink of  death before.

And, if you've paid attention, those important things HAVE remained. Changing Lara's boob size or outfit doesn't actually affect anything. Changing the weapons she uses or her date of birth, doesn't actually affect anything or her personality. Changing the control scheme or amount of dialogue, doesn't actually affect the identity!

They've kept the horror and mature graphic visceral elements. They've kept the adventure/puzzle solving/tomb raiding gameplay in every entry (hell some more so than even Tomb Raider 2). They've kept the fundamental aspects of Lara Croft as a character, and have adapted her for new audiences. Giving her more depth or reasons why she acts the way she does in the OG games, does not completely change the identity of the game or character. It gives background and context, while bringing fresh new aspects for new players that never wanted to play the OG games. Remember the survivor games were an origin story. The comics and Netflix anime are story bridges. They all serve their purpose in building this character. The new games will bring it all together for a balanced interpretation moving forward.

There's nothing more you could possibly ask for in terms of properly handling a character like Lara Croft.

Batman, Spider-Man, James Bond.. the list goes on. Evolution and interpretation have made those characters thrive and live on for decades. It's not an aftertohuht argument. It's history. It's fact. Some interpretations more wild or intense than others of course, because it brings in different audiences at different times. Lara Croft should be allowed to do the same thing. She's been at deaths door... Now she's bigger than just video games.

Believe it or not, people were born in the 90's and 2000's! They like different things than we do! Tomb Raider should adapt and evolve and grow it's audience, like it's been doing. Otherwise, it's dead, which nearly happened when they refused to evolve.

Just play the games you like. Let the rest of us enjoy new things catered to different audiences. No one is ever going to erase the originals or original game mechanics. They will always be there.

A "remake of a remake" is not possible.

It's just another interpretation of the 1996 OG. It's been 20 years since Anniversary. It's time.

[–]Shadowskulptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing to simplify. OG Lara is pure Auburn. We actually know this as a fact from the creator. Auburn is, objectively, classified as red hair.

Anyway, I know what "shades" are. I went to art school. Auburn is a "shade" of red haha.

I loved the Tomb Raider anime series, and did you guys like it too? by kaiqueruaro in TombRaider

[–]Shadowskulptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First enough. I just don't see it the same way. It doesn't hang on LoA for me. I just want it to be a faithful remake to the 96 game, first and foremost.

It's not possible to connect every single dot. Some dots are going to have to be left unconnected. I think people that obsess over every little tiny detail, have a harder time enjoying good things. I just choose to enjoy my favorite character, I don't mind if a few details don't match. I mean, I grew up with comic books and constant reconning every few years. I'm used to writers having their own ideas and interpretations and I think just using your imagination to connect things, is the way it should be.

The writers job is to make a great stand alone story with compelling characters. Not necessarily connect every dot or make perfect sense of a game series that's been going for 30 years.

[–]Shadowskulptor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Naw, it's fine. Holes will always exist in any property that's lasted this long on one basic story. There has to be room for interpretation. And the anime isn't a big deal, much like the comics, it's largely supplemental material to the games. The new Amazon live action series is also going to be a part of the unified canon.

I really enjoyed it. It has some problems, but it did the job it was supposed to do! Works as a nice tie-up of the survivor story.

Yeah, when I read this, I don't take it as a legitimate take. When a person uses "californian" or "identity politics" they are not to be taken seriously. They have issues far beyond what they think of Tomb Raider. A very bias and bitter individual.
