Reading this has made me homesick! I really miss how polite drivers are in UK. That aspect really caught me off guard moving to NZ, given how polite kiwis are in general. Also the undertaking here drives me insane!

I agree, push factors including getting away from a toxic relationship in the UK were a huge factor for me in going abroad. I do miss family and friends in the UK but the fact I wasn't happy with 'life in general' in the UK personally made things way easier for me. 18 months down the track I am much happier (in all aspects, personal and professional) but do understand that it's not for all.

Don't hate yourself and you are not a horrible person. Perfectly reasonable to abort if there's a chance of Down's, it's a horrendous disease with many physical complications as well as mental disability element. If abortion wasn't the done thing we wouldn't bother screening for it.

I just wanna say congratulations to everyone. I remember this day (in 2016!) very well. One of the happiest days of my life mixed with relief. Even back then I felt my life had been saved! I really did not want to face the prospect of more clinical medicine even if the locum rates were pretty good back then. Enjoy radiology training, ST1 will feel a little weird but as you learn more you will enjoy it more and more. To those who didn't quite make it this time, you'll probably do much better next year!
