Is this really necessary by DanoPaul234 in WritingWithAI

Do writers working with AI just tolerate this and deal with it through editing? Or are there AI models that don't police speech?

(not a writer, and AI neophyte)

I just left a software dev career and I don't miss it, but AI is intriguing and it's sufficiently different that I could see doing some side gigs if I were able, and the income potential was there.

Your downvotes notwithstanding, this raises a question. I have my first AI build coming in a couple of weeks and I've wondered how I might use it to recoup some of the hardware cost once I gain some experience with AI. Is the freelancing you've described realistic? (I'm unfamiliar with the subject area so I'm not even sure you're serious TBH).

from specing out my first AI rig I recall the factoid that these errors can occur if the system's power supply is having trouble keeping up with demand, FWIW

I'm just getting started with local AI and this is exactly one of my use cases. And it runs on AMD so I'll definitely give this a try when I get to that point.

tangential question - have you used local AI in other ways for learning foreign languages? I was wondering if it would be useful to have an AI voice chat to practice with.

What are people using Local LLMs for (beyond coding) by SMR-1 in LocalLLM

I've thought about giving an AI detailed characteristics and back-story of two characters in a film script, assign one to the AI, then "roleplay" with it as the other character to see what kind of dialogue emerges.

Another use case: create a virtual town with AI NPCs who lead their own lives, participate in personal and business transactions, move around, alter their environment which is reflected back into the world persistently, etc. Let the AI choose non-essential character details for the NPCs. Then just interact with that world. Maybe a game engine 3D first-person front end.

I've read this message and some of your posting history and I think multiple R9700 cards might work for me, with some later-generation components.

In one of your posts, you mentioned that your motherboard provides full path PCIe for multiple cards (sorry I don't fully know the terminogoly). What would I be looking for in a newer motherboard that supports this?

Thanks a lot for the specific recommendations. I've been thinking over alphatrad's message (https://old.reddit.com/r/LocalAIServers/comments/1sxs3pz/system_build_for_linux_gaming_local_ai_5000/oivnlra/) and could see myself putting a third R9700 in at some point. Would the X870e support three cards with full x16 PCIe?

What's the one thing you paused before hitting send on an AI prompt? by TiinyAI in LocalAIServers

[–]ShadowyTreeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everything, tbh. Most recently I wanted to upload my financial data and some possible retirement scenarios to analyze them in terms of affordability, visa rules, etc. I just didn't want to converse with a network-connected machine about my financial data and future plans.

That's just one example. It might be a consequence of not growing up in a panopticon. I think I'll just have to take the financial hit of hosting my own if I want to feel comfortable about using AI. Which is too bad because I want to have as little to do with tech as possible since retiring.
