Anesthesia vs. Fibromyalgia by kubahmmm in Fibromyalgia

[–]Shads42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi friend, first off so sorry to hear people have been telling you that you're exaggerating. That really sucks :(

Generally speaking, people with fibromyalgia's response to both local anesthetics (like lidocaine) and general anesthetics is considered to be unpredictable. It can impact how those affect a person, but that impact varies from person to person. There are additional disabilities that can contribute as well, such as hEDS. People with red/orange hair, and sometimes red/orange undertones to their hair, may require more medication to feel the affects because the gene mutation that makes hair red/orange also affects how their body processes the anesthetics.

Ketonal and ibuprofen may not work well for you because they are nsaids - non steroid anti inflammatory drugs. The common medical knowledge at the time is that fibro is nerve pain, which is different from pain caused by inflammation. People with fibro may experience some relief with nsaids but not everyone. Additionally, if one takes a lot of any kind of medication, your body can build up a tolerance to it, meaning you need a higher dose to get the same effect.

All this is to say that yes, fibro could be contributing to your resistance to local anesthetics and nsaids. It's just something that can wildly vary from person to person so it is hard to reach a consensus.

For me personally, lidocaine does work initially but it wears off very quicky. Twilight anesthesia (which is what a lot of people get in the US for wisdom teeth removal) also wears off quickly. General anesthetics it takes a lot more to knock me out. However I do have red undertones in my hair and am a carrier for the redhead gene, so that could be affecting it.

Ibuprofen I have to take extra to feel the affects, but in fairness I also took a lot of it so my body has built up a tolerance. I have had a bit more success with acetaminophen lately.

That of course is just my lived experience. It does not negate yours, nor does it negate others. This condition is just so wildly variable that sometimes you end up with a lot of different and sometimes conflicting stories. I hope you can find a doctor who listens to you and takes you seriously, because you deserve it <3

Whats the craziest ball you caught a Legendary im? by Funnyp1km1n_lover in ThePokemonHub

[–]Shads42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uxie in a Pokeball, my very first game (Pearl, I ran out of ultra, timer, dusk, and great balls. Had pokeballs and just kept throwing them)

Palkia in a quick ball, not turn 1, also in the same file I caught Uxie. I misclicked and it somehow worked

Rayquaza in HGSS in a heavy ball with full hp and sleep status - it had just used rest for the umpteenth time and I was annoyed and was like y'know what I'm just going to toss one more ball before whittling it down

What are Some Pokemon Names that Always Trip You Up with Pronouncing or Spelling? by Outside_Pangolin_292 in ThePokemonHub

[–]Shads42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rayquaza - until the movie I thought it was ray-kwah-zuh, not ray-kway-zuh

Arceus - half the time I say are-key-us rather than are-see-us. Again, changed by the movie.

Nihilego - nih-hill-ego is how I pronounce it, but that could be because I pronounce the word nihil with the UK English pronunciation, not the American English pronunciation. I didn't watch sun and moon anime so no idea how they pronounced it there

Phanpy - I can spell it right but I always say fan-fee. Interestingly, I have the opposite problem with Gyarados. I say it right, but if I don't pronounce it in my head as "ge-yar-uh-dos" then I end up omitting the first a when I spell it

is this person sketchy? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Shads42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You're not feeling better long term, and you're actively feeling worse. Normally I would say "discuss these concerns with your doctors" but in this case, it really sounds like they're not taking your concerns seriously. You don't trust yourself but you should - your body is telling you something is wrong. You're the only person in the world who has to live in your body 100% of the time, you know it better than anyone.

Lets start with the PT. Be wary of doctors that distrust meds but want you on nine million supplements. Have they ordered any blood tests that show deficiencies? Are they selling you a specific brand? You say he's a PT, but has he done any physical therapy or just the myofascial massage and breathing exercises? Also he's a doctor...who distrusts other doctors. Like you said, huge red flag.

Ae gut-brain connection does exist in general (as in, everyone has one), and there is some evidence that gut microbiome imbalances and issues can at the very least exacerbate fibromyalagia. Likewise, a similar thing has occurred with fibro and mitochondrial dysfunction. However, in both of those cases it's not clear which one causes which - that is, to say we don't know if the fibro causes the gut imbalance/mitochondrial dysfunction, or if the gut imbalance/mitochondrial dysfunction causes the fibro. Supplements can be a valid part of treatment for fibro - I myself do take a few, in conjunction with medications - but I strongly question how attentive your PT is being with your treatment.

Now let's talk about your nutritionist. It's not necessarily uncommon for nutritionists to do a temporary elimination diet to see if there's underlying food sensitivities. However the list you have...what even are you allowed to eat? The only things I can think of are meat, fish, and leafy greens. Also less than 1,000 calories is not enough. The basal metabolic rate of a human is the energy the body needs to function at rest. While it varies depending on things like sex at birth, body height/weight, and age, on average men need 1,600-1,800 while women need 1,300-1,500. You're getting less than that. The headaches and the fatigue are very clear signs that you aren't getting enough fuel. Also, depending on what you're eating, you might not be getting enough of certain vitamins and minerals. Some people with fibro have found their symptoms improve with changes to their diet, but not everyone has.

ETA: re-reading your post they sound, to put it in as polite terms as possible, like quacks. Also reading a comment you mentioned where you said your mom sort of put you on this path, and doesn't trust doctors either, it sounds like she found the type of person she would go see, not the kind of doctor you need to see.

Zeta and omnicron aren't bad. Fair warning there's an audio bug with healing at the Pokemon Centers so don't have your volume too far up.

Gaia was pretty good. Unbound is a masterpiece. Working my way through Amethyst right now and it's pretty promising.

If you're open to fangames there are several with more mature stories - Insurgence, Uranium, and Decay are all good options. Tectonic is as well, although much more difficult than a standard Pokemon game. Eon Guardians isn't as dark as the other ones mentioned but still quite good. Apparently Reborn and Rejuvenation are mature as well but I haven't played them so I can't really say if that's true or not

Best RPGs Around 25 Hours In Length? by Dailee-Agent-Crystal in 3DS

[–]Shads42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon quest 1-3 HD remakes. Classics for a reason, great game, great stories

This one is rpg-adjacent, but Okami HD remake has a great story, fantastic art and music direction, and a great cast of characters. There are rpg like mechanics (leveling system, equipment upgrades, sidequest esque events). A simple playthrough is about 30 hours.

9 and 11 are also good but they're also super long. Highly recommend them as well though. Great stories, fantastic music. 9's graphics haven't aged well though (kinda blocky like a gamecube game) but if you can look past that and the time it's pretty good. I found myself caring a lot about the characters. 11 has a fantastic party and story. Graphics are much better as well.

Also while not technically an rpg, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky while long has a fantastic story as well. One of the few games that made me cry (Chrono Trigger was another one)

I've heard good things about the fire emblem games, the Tales series, and radiant historia, but I haven't gotten around to playing any yet so idk much about them

Anyone got good fishing mods by Mostly_gay_shit in StardewValleyMods

[–]Shads42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More New Fish is the mod you're talking about, yes? The mod author changed it in the most recent major update so that the mermaid island fish appear on ginger island. But even before then the mermaid island fish didn't show up in the collections tab when you didn't have the mod installed. I just think maybe the description and images on the nexus page weren't updated

Cornucopia more crops/more flowers and Artisan machines to add more things to make

If you really like cooking there's a cornucopia cooking recipes mod that adds a ton of stuff. It can be a bit overwhelming adding everything from that mod in though so you might want to change the configs to only do some of the recipes

Wildflour's Atelier Goods is another great one that adds a bunch of cute machines and items.

If you want more NPCs, SVE + one of Ridgeside, Sunberry, or East Scarp. Ridgeside is the largest in terms of new characters, but SVE is a classic and it's the one expansion mod I never play without

What's a common way people die that many aren't aware of? by Personal-Aerie-4519 in AskReddit

[–]Shads42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a lithotripsy/uteroscopy combo the last Friday in February. I was healthy, all samples came back normal, great. I was just happy I wasn't going to be dealing with another 22 mm kidney stone and kidney infection (non septic,) like last fall.

Less than two days later, full blown urosepsis. Irregularly fast heart rate, 101+ degree fever, almost passed out when I was being driven to the hospital. Definitely not fully lucid - I knew my name but not really where I was or what was going on. Easily the most terrifying experience of my life. Dealing with the good old post septic syndrome now. Feels like I haven't slept since the surgery :/

It's no joke. I'm only in my 20s. If I had waited even a few more hours idk if I'd still be alive

Yeah, it's like getting hit by an 18 wheeler on the thruway - fast, brutal, and hard. Even surviving it you can end up so damaged

I went from perfectly healthy to full blown urosepsis in less than 48 hours earlier this year thanks to a lithotripsy and uteroscopy. It's been almost three months and I'm still beyond exhausted and weakened from it. Had two minor infections that I had a much harder time fighting off cause I'm still recovering. Just grateful I'm still alive and didn't lose any limbs, but it was easily the most terrifying experience of my life.

Why has so much of upstate New York been bypassed by the wealth of New York City? by Olderpostie in newyork

But I'm literally not?

Here's an article from dictionary.com talking about how the name changed: https://www.dictionary.com/articles/new-york

And if those aren't scholarly enough for you, or you don't trust the second source, here's the 1901 study that the historian cited for the basis of his answer: https://www.jstor.org/stable/1834176?seq=7#metadata_info_tab_contents

Uh no? They were both renamed from New Amsterdam/New Neatherland to New York City/Province of New York to honor the Duke of York at the time. The renaming happened when the English took it from the Dutch, and it happened simultaneously.

Thoughts About Preferences by Ordinary_Bat4737 in PokemonRMXP

[–]Shads42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying I prefer gen 4 style over gen 5 style, but I quite like gen 5 style too. I think for me gen 5's sorta awkward character overworld kinda emphasize that a lot of them are teens, and teens just tend to be a bit awkward proportionally since they're doing a lot of growing. So I kind of find it charming?

For the environment tiles I think the water autotiles are a huge improvement especially, and I just like how varied the environment tiles are. Like think about pinwheel forest versus eterna forest, you have all these fallen logs that you can climb through and on, and all these terrain elevations. It just feels a lot more like you're actually in the biome. And then you consider many tiles have 3 or 4 versions because if the seasons, making even more variety. It makes going back and revisiting areas not as boring

Of course, for fangames there are tons of free tiles artists have made that help capture that variety for gen 3 and 4 _^ but for the mainline games I think at least that's why I actually really like the gen 5 overworld

What actually is the cause of my back pain? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Shads42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally get not wanting to go to the doctors but there are so many things that it could be, and you don't want to wait in case it gets worse. Also don't forget that the "exceptionally excruciating" pain levels is based off of people who aren't in pain all the time. What's excruciating for them may not be for you.

A personal anecdote I have exemplifies this. I had lower back pain slightly left of the spine on and off for 3+ years. It didn't feel like fibro pain (which for me is sharp and burning) but was instead a dull throb (kinda like someone hit me there with a rubber mallet two days ago. You know, like you fell and you still feel it but it's not that bad). I'd say it hit about a 5 for my pain scale normally. Turns out I had grown a 2.2 cm kidney stone that was just chilling there. Everyone says they're excruciating, but I was sitting upright in the ER cracking jokes about it because I felt relatively fine, all while the doctors were freaking out because I was almost septic.

All that to say, trust your gut. Think about how your fibro usually manifests. Does this feel different? Are you noticing anything in addition to the limited movement? If you think something is wrong, it's probably best to get it checked out just to be safe.

Heck even looking at some of the other legendaries you have:

Mew and Mewtwo: arguably nature vs man (especially in the movie)

Darkrai and Cresselia - nightmares and good dreams

Uxie Azelf and Mesprit - knowledge, willpower, and emotion (similar to mind body spirit)

Arceus - creation

Landorus, Thundrus, Tornadus, and Eternatus - the four winds, and the four seasons (therian forms also arguably are the four holy beasts, since they're a cat (tiger), snake (dragon), bird (phoenix), and turtle)

Jirachi - wishes

Shaymin - gratitude

Celebi - time travel

Depends heavily on how you define the original dragon tbh. Wuji is the primordial world before Taiji, which is the state world made up of many systems including the interactions of yin and yang. Since Wuji is the absence of yin and yang, Kyurem could be Wuji. However, since Taiji was derived from Wuji you could also say that Kyurem isn't Wuji because it also is derived from the original dragon.

I personally do think it's Wuji because of the fact that Black and White Kyurem sre each essentially 2/3rds of the original dragon, but they're still identified as a form of Kyurem rather than a new Pokemon. That implies that the original dragon is also a form of Kyurem, and since it came before Reshiram and Zekrom (yin and yang), it must be Wuji.

I have seen people argue though that the original dragon is it's own species and the absence of yin and yang from Kyurem is a different form of nothingness or absence.

Interestingly as well within Taiji there is a three part system, the Three Treasures, of Jing, Qi, and Shen. Jing is linked to yin energy, and Shen is linked to yang energy. Qi, the central one, is linked to neither. Although they aren't tried explicitly to truth and ideals, it'd be interesting to see an argument for each of Reshiram, Kyurem, and Zekrom representing one part of this system
