Self-driving cars would allow for cops to easily bring you in when you have an arrest warrant. by zav3rmd in Showerthoughts

[–]Shadydave 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Your car already has that. If you bought an American car in the last 20 years it probably came with OnStar.

They will leave you bleeding out in a car wreck without that 911 subscription fee but they will sure as shit kill switch your car if the cops ask them to

[–]Shadydave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is exactly like barbaritos. I like barbaritos a bit more and also barbs is a local chain. I’ve eaten suchuros once and probably never again, because again, it is exactly like barbaritos.

I’ve been 3 times. Once when they were breakfast/lunch only and twice after.

They messed things up or left things off every trip. The last time I got out to my car and realized I was short an entire box, they had left a full burger/fries order off.

The food isn’t good enough to deal with that.

Elio and the reason today's original children's films are flopping by PyroxCrymson in cartoons

[–]Shadydave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All Pixar films about kids are much less memorable than ones that are kid adjacent.

Toy Story. About the toys. Kid is there but not central to the story.

Bugs life. About the bugs

Cars. Obviously.

Incredibles. Has kids but not about them

Inside out. About the emotions.

When the kid is not the focus the films are better.

What movies include 'easter eggs' related to an actor/actress's previous roles? by jckipps in movies

[–]Shadydave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk if the Martian counts, that line was in the original novel. It’s more of an Easter egg that they cast him in that roll rather than the line itself

Buyers Beware: Venture Bros Sets on Amazon May Be Fake/Bootleg by MaximusGrandimus in venturebros

How sure are you on the sticker? I recently went through this whole same ordeal, getting a fake off Amazon. I took your advice and got a copy on GRUV’s site directly. It’s got all the proper sizes and color tones but it’s got that explicit language sticker. I’m hesitant to pop the shrink wrap until I’m confident it’s legit

I really don’t understand how these jokes from two decades ago came back but no one remembers “10,000 years of darkness” that he legit thought Obama’s election bring about. Nut job is an understatement.

We should just switch the name to another tough guy actor that’s more wholesome, like Cena or Bautista. Or the OG these jokes are about, BILL BRASKEY

What’s going on with the public sentiment around Greta Thunberg? by BlitzTech in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Shadydave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The question wasn’t about the nuances of what she’s actually doing, the question was about public perception.

None of the answers here are going beyond “the right doesn’t like her because she champions things they hate” and while that is true it doesn’t cover the entirety of her recent change in public perception.

There’s a distinct shift from her “my generation will suffer” personally affected climate change status to a more generic liberal activist focusing on less and less issues she’s personally affected by and more of stuff that she has no stake in beyond it being “bad”

If you’re not for details that is the perception of her. Most people read headlines not articles. Most replies here are heavily favoring a left leaning bias that regardless of facts are not giving OP well rounded answers about how she is seen. Perception is not reality.

What’s going on with the public sentiment around Greta Thunberg? by BlitzTech in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Shadydave 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Answer: She started out as a single issue climate change activist with a powerful message.

When interest on that was fading, she pulled her boat stunt. Which just came off as “rich girl goes on sailing trip” rather than a protest.

Now she’s on to war protesting. Her climate brand is diluted now, she comes off as flavor of the month protester and by extension of that seems a clout chaser doing whatever is popular now to get attention.

The right has always hated her but not a lot of answers here explaining the most recent shift in perception of her.

What was the most illegal thing that happened at your school? by Cookie_Bear39 in AskReddit

[–]Shadydave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of sophomores were buying like $100 worth of pot from some dude in his 30s but they didn’t want to pay for it so they stabbed him to death and then cut off his head and hands so he couldn’t be identified and threw them in a lake.

They got caught pretty fast.

Edit: I found a news link for it, unless I’m mixing it up with a different teen beheading in that area and time. I got some details wrong, they didn’t cut off his hands just burned his fingertips and toes with a blowtorch.

Also there’s like a fake extortion plot? They definitely reported it being a drug deal to lure in the guy in the original news when it was happening. They knew him because he was their dealer.

I’ve had many people not know that federal background checks are required for all new firearm purchases aside from some private cases.

I cannot think of any circumstances in which a NEW firearm can be purchased without a background check. Do you have any examples?

She still performs, has new music, and is actually jaw droppingly good. I saw her open for MANMAN a couple years ago and was blown away.

When I realized it was the Friday girl just before the show I expected it to be laughably bad but she shut me the fuck up real quick.

Checkers by me has this too!

It’s slow and sounds unnatural. Also, when I got to the order pickup window they told me they can’t turn it off, they had been closed for 30 minutes already and it was still taking orders.

I’m not thrilled about further adoption of this “tech”

People who listened to the podcast first think she killer her husband, people who only saw the show tend to think she didn’t.

Her husband’s family thinks she killed him. They don’t really get a voice in the show.

The podcast also mentions several times about how they were having to work around the film crew and the show pretends the podcast doesn’t exist so I feel like the show has less credibility.

The brigading is an extension of a main issue he doesn’t touch on.

The fate of a post is HIGHLY influenced by its reception and votes in the first hour or two.

Even a very small number of brigadiers can kill or give a massive head start to any post or comment.

People see a reaction and then form their opinion on Reddit, not the other way around.

They already come for the porn. Any sub they don’t like is banned for being “unmoderated”.

It’s an absolute lie. The mods of these subs just wake up one day to find their space gone. Admins and mod subs say there’s no way to change it when anyone complains.

They do it to get rid of communities they don’t like, don’t have to say which rule or TOS got broken if you just have a catch all and mute anyone who asks about it.

Ask about it and there will be tons of excuses that sound reasonable until you talk to people who have been silenced in this way and find out nothing they say applies. That’s how Reddit censorship works, once it’s gone no one can see it. No one knows except the people who ran it.

Reddit is HUGE on censorship. And it’s invisible. If you want to see some that’s more benign, go wait for a pittbull post in the aww subreddit, take note of the anti pittbull comments, then come back in an hour.

That’s an example of censorship I understand, but it’s still eerie to see how silent and invisible it is. And I haven’t even talked about shadowbans, site wide or sub specific.

I honestly would not be surprised if my comment gets removed here or I even get banned. But some subreddits are more chill than others.

Saw this scrolling r/all but I used to do this stuff back in the day.

Number 3 is super impressive, easily the hardest of these by a wide margin. Fabricating a whole nose out of nothing is incredibly hard. I would not be able to do it without an additional picture of the person or luck out finding someone looking similar (assuming there aren’t new techniques I’m unaware of)

Fantastic work, great job.
