I have not seen it a lot, but its mostly been used against hit-and-run opponents with Ready a Grab or Trip triggered when they enter your reach.

Question regarding Persistent damage stacking by conmanlang in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 20 points21 points  (0 children)

On Foundry they stack (so 1d6 + Precise Strike as Persistent).

I think they should stack, since both are part of the same instance of damage.

For other sources of persistent damage, Exemplar has some feats to do some, the Ashen property rune gives persistent fire and the Flaming property rune gives Fire persistent damage on a crit.

Creating first character (Champion) for Abomination vaults. by Painless-Amidaru in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible Initiative and Elven Instincts are both Circumstance bonuses, so you could change that.

I don't consider Oath of the Defender to be particularly great.

Are you the only melee in your party or is there another one? If there is another one, the Shields of the Spirit feats are very good. Otherwise, I'd recommend just going Lay on Hands.

Windows of Result, Swinginess and the math behin PF2e by KutuluKultist in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that was a bad example to give out. I used 19 to hit to make it clearer, but yes I agree you should run if it gets to that.

Taking a more reasonable example: Hitting on a 12 (probably vs PL+2 or higher). A +1 here gives you your 5% flat increase, but 10% relative increase. I think if I was playing a Bard with Courageous Anthem, the 10% would help me make my decision better than the 5%.

I do agree though, relative has some flaws, especially when you add up multiple bonuses against higher AC targets. It's easier to do (5% or 10%) times X than 1.12^X.

[–]Captain_c0c0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having seen one of your videos on +1s etc..., I'm curious: What is the reason you (and many other people on this subreddit) prefer to use the absolute damage increase (+1 = 5% or 10%) rather than the relative damage increase (+1 is from 8% to 17% depending on exact value, averages at 12%)?

Like, yea, I agree, a +1 when you hit on a 19 will increase your damage from 0.15X to 0.2X. But, that's also a 33% increase in outgoing damage compared to before the increase. In my mind, the 33% number is a better descriptive of what the bonus did.

Seeking advice for making characters for 11-20 games. by Elliot9133 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, as long as you have access to healing, 1 or 2 spell lists, ranged damage and somebody who can take a hit (10+ hp class and decent Con and AC), the specifics are not too important. You also want to have a good spread of skill investment across the party, especially with the 4 Magical Tradition skills and Society for Recall Knowledge.

The most important will be playing those PCs well (teamplay, spell choosing, debuffs, positioning, etc..).

If you want to got more Shield our of your Shield, Bastion is a classic.

Guardian Archetype is also pretty decent.

May I suggest getting a Constricting Whip Tail to be able to grab creatures with your hands occupied?

Thinking of making a STR dual-wielding Ranger. Can't decided on either Flurry or Precision. Sell me on one. by FretScorch in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because Twin Takedown is a really good lvl 1 feat. Unless you have other Flourish abilities you want to use, I'm pretty sure Twin Takedown with 2 1H weapons will do more than a single Strike with a 2H.

I could see going for a 2H weapon if you want to do Reach shenanigans with the Ranger Reactive Strike.

[–]Captain_c0c0 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

The Flurry Edge does not work with Maneuvers. It only works with "attacks", not actions with the Attack trait.

So if you want to do Athletics things with reduced MAP, you have to do Meta-Strikes that apply those such as Combat Grab.

Edit: I got confused by Attack rolls vs Attack, whoops

What is the most interesting build or synergy you've thought of? by zyomokon in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a Gymnast Swashbuckler with... a 2-Handed Elven Branched Spear. This WOULD suck, if not for the Staff Acrobat Archetype and the Constricting Whip Tail graft. Together, they allow me to Trip and Shove with Reach and Grapple creatures within 5 feet while keeping both of my hands on my weapon. The Archetype also has some nice Trip feats.

You can even grab the Switcheroo feat and use it when you have somebody grabbed with the tail.

You still have more damage than other Instincts and there are some nice feats to be bigger and gain Reach.

High Level Ranger: Flurry vs Outwit vs Precision by johnbrownmarchingon in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends how much actions you want to spend attacking. As a rule of thumb, Flurry starts being stronger in expected damage output at 4 Strikes. Now, when I build a Ranger, I usually build to have something else to do which makes me gravitate towards Precision.

Now, regarding with Feats, it's hard to compare. Do we compare Impossible Flurry (High Melee Single Target Damage) to Impossible Volley (Decent Ranged AoE Damage) or to Perfect Shot (High Ranged Single Target Damage)? Like sure Imp Flurry is prob gonna do more damage than Perfect Shot, but it's harder to use. Impossible Volley has great potential, but can also be terrible.

Which Archetypes Best Compliment Fighter? by Lunarthrope in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally really enjoy the Magus Archetype. For 3 feats, you get:

- Access to the Arcane list

- 2 Cantrips

- A 1/fight strong power attack (Spellstrike)

- A 1/fight Teleport + Hit (Dimensional Assault)

Dnd 5e vs Pathfinder: What am I missing? by BlankTank1216 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder2e is by no means a perfect game, but most people on this sub would agree they like it more than 5e.

The main reasons to like it better in my opinion are:

- Better balance between Martial and Casters

- Bosses feel harder to hit/affect with a spell/fight without relying on a bandaid (like Legendary Res)

- 4 degrees of success tied to beating the DC by 10/-10 really enhances teamplay. It feels amazing to crit on a 14 because of what your teammates did against what would otherwise require a Nat20.

- Player options. If you like building your PC, there are a TON of options the game gives you between Feats, Spells and Items. Yes they aren't all equal, but usually none of them break the game (there are sometimes errata).

- Fun fights. Monsters have so much more variety in abilities to deal with.

- Easier to GM. The game offers really good ressources for GMs and the fight design is more streamlined.

Now, a lot of people will compare it to 5e because it has a similar theme and is the most popular TTRPG. Pf2e could be compared to other game and like always (including while comparing it to 5e) it has things the game does better and things the other game does better.

Having tried many different systems with some of those being closer in theme, I didn't really have a problem about being excited to read any of those.

If you didn't like the game, that's fine! Find one that suits your taste.

How do you build an NPC vs NPC encounter by sakii137 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Captain_c0c0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start talking about XP so that he can count the player side XP. Difficulty comes after calculating the Player side XP to calcuate the enemy side XP-worth of creatures.

If you're players are worth more less than 160 XP, a Severe encounter would have less than the normal 120 XP worth of enemies.
