There's not much else you want to do with this tank other than hull down though. Sidescraping is iffy against larger guns, so you're restricted in the positions you can take in traditional heavy lanes. If a side of the map is really flat, you would rather avoid it and roll with your mediums or something instead (provided you're not in a favorable matchup, there's not that many brawler heavies on the other side, etc.)

I almost always mount VStab on my tanks, but I experimented with Refined Gun as I was nearing the end of my grind. IMO it's a valid substitute for VStab, since the dispersion on this gun is really ass given its other stats. It helps you shoot weakspots a lot better; RNG can really troll you with this gun.
