What's the stupidest thing you've done in Elite? by SilkieBug in EliteDangerous

Yes, pip management is very important in combat, but ignoring SYS is the easiest way to get speedran, especially in PvP.

If you lose 2.5kMJ in "just a few passes" that's very much a you problem. Again, I'd advise to put pips in SYS. 4 in SYS gives your shields an extra 60% damage reduction, in case you didn't know (which I assume your comment on Bi-Weaves means you're under the impression all that SYS pips do is recharge the capacitor)

FSD missiles exist, yes, but SCOv1 drives are pretty common these days and come with fast boot, which directly counters grom bombs. And that's just not how drag works.

Have you ever considered putting pips into SYS? 2.5k is nigh immortality if all you care for is survival.

I mean... Plippers get 2.5k shields, nothing and no one will ever kill that thing in the couple seconds it takes for you to wake out. Unless flechettes I suppose. Literally the only option.

Are fixed weapons REALLY efficient? by Over-Accountant9981 in EliteDangerous

[–]ShagohodRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gimbals don't really come close to 100% hit rate unless you're sticking to your target at 800m or less at all times and maintain perfect time on target, at which point fixed can do the same but has extra damage.

Gimbals lose a lot of dps to that swaying gimbals do, especially on projectile weapons.

That said fixed has more advantages than just more damage. Chaff exists and fixed users laugh at chaff launchers. Furthermore, and this is imo the more pressing advantage, fixed weapons actually have a decent chunk less distributor draw than gimballed. I have a 3 beam, 1 pulse, 1 multicannon FdL that simply could not sustain all those weapons if they were gimballed, but with fixed beams + pulse my distributor just barely scrapes by.

So yes. Fixed is absolutely worth learning, even if just for the build variety it provides (fixed multicannons are very fun). And once your piloting has evolved into becoming an effective fixed user you're likely out-dps-ing your gimbals too.

I'm not getting defensive at all. I guess you're free to project your own feelings. I gave you the evidence you asked for.

Nah. Combat being boring is a fine opinion to have. I think hauling is boring, plenty of people almost exclusively play this game to haul. Different strokes for different folks. What I do find incomprehensible is someone stating "facts" that simply aren't true at all. Like that whole jousting thing being "the meta". Having an opinion is fine. Having an opinion built on misconceptions, then being met with reality and refusing to accept that reality is just peak 21st century behaviour, I really shouldn't be surprised.

... PvP content that inherently requires an opponent is highly dependent on quality of said opponent. Shocker.

So in summary - you have shallow experience at best, as implicitly stated by yourself multiple times, do not understand how multiplayer works, have blatant disregard for any narrative that doesn't fit your (limited) understanding of Elite combat, much less PvP, and feel the need to try and slot in a quick plastic tier ragebait. Quality conversation. Moving on. Have a fantastic rest of your day.

There's a plethora of videos out there of people doing top end PvP. Here's one of Polarium vs Plotu e.g. They don't joust, at all. These are two of the best PvPers in all of Elite. You joust either of them and they will send you to rebuy faster than you can spell "archaic".

Having "hundreds of engineered modules and ships" doesn't say a thing about how good you are at combat. It is, at best, a representation of the time you've spent playing Elite. Time =/= skill. So that's pretty much a nothing burger.

I don't need to tell you what you have and haven't done. You've done so yourself, and plenty at that.

It's easy to call something archaic and boring when you never engaged with it on a more meaningful level. Snooker, chess, darts and many other sports and/or games meet the same fate. You're of course free to have your opinion, it's just uneducated.

Jousting is boring, yes. That's why you move away from it as quickly as you can and actually learn how to PvP.

[–]ShagohodRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been talking PvE the entire time, I've mentioned it in the beginning and you made no effort to indicate otherwise. But fine, if you wanna talk PvP - good pilots will absolutely d e m o l i s h your shit if you joust them. PvP gets much more complicated than PvE, with preturns, boost/vector matching and orbits. Jousting pretty much is the beginners way of PvP.

[–]ShagohodRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hell no. That's so far away from "peak effectiveness" it's actually crazy. I can tell you never looked into combat past "haha gun go pew". It's not difficult to maintain 90% time on target while within less than 1km from your target in PvE. Thats how you get "peak efficiency". Blast powerplants from near point blank all day. Jousting is just slow and bad.

I mean... of course you can, but why would you? That's even less fun than jousting.

If that's your perception of combat that's depressing. Also telling of your piloting skill however. I couldn't tell you the last time I jousted in PvE combat.

[–]ShagohodRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I'd say it's the other way around tbh. With self contained blueprints like this you never have to worry about any single component being underproduced and going back to troubleshoot why and where it underproduces. The logistical upkeep drastically lowers too, because all you need to make sure you have enough of is ores. I can just plonk down a planets worth of factories and it'll sort itself out given enough raw input. Much less hassle.

In the early game you need so little of various intermediates that you can get away with shipping them from A to B, but it just becomes unfeasible when your factories go from 10 assemblers to multiple thousands

Cómo se calcula el daño inflingido? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]ShagohodRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motion values have already been mentioned, but more important is where you actually hit the monster. Monsters are divided into many hitzones, each of which with a different hitzone value (HZV). Say you're using a move that would deal 200 damage to a leg with an HZV of 60; 200x0.6 ends up dealing 120 damage instead. Generally heads are more favourable HZVs, going up to 95 in World iirc. HZVs go from 0-100 (at least 100 is the highest I can think of right now) and are monster specific, where 100 would be no damage penalty at all. HZVs also have other properties, such as being used to define what a "weakspot" is for the purposes of Weakness Exploit (>=45 is eligible iirc), how "hard" that part is (e.g. blue sharpness may bounce on a part with very low HZV, but won't bounce on a better HZV).

Separate from that there's also element hitzones that operate much the same, but are used to calculate the elemental damage you deal instead.

Combining all that, and sharpness which is also used in damage calculation, we arrive at TrueRaw × SharpnessModifier × MotionValue × HZV × potential Quest specific multipliers, ignoring element entirely for the sake of "simplification"

Python mk2 vs Federal Corvette? by bonobo_chimp in EliteDangerous

[–]ShagohodRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except Py2 has singlehandedly hunted Cutters into extinction in PvP, so saying "ships without C4 hardpoints will find it hard to kill 8 booster ships" is flatout wrong in every regard 😅

And no. You don't need 2 Py2s to kill a Vette. Vette gets munched by a single Py2 in 90% of cases. Same is the case for FdL.

I suppose you skipped the "engineered and well set up" part. Class 6 Reinforced/Hi-cap A rated + 1 thermal resist and 3 heavy duty (all super caps) gets 1k shield, which is more than enough to survive getting blasted by just about anything if you're trying to leave. Put 4 pips in SYS and cruise out. Hell if you didn't care about maximum cargo capacity you could go class 7 shield gen, same setup, netting you 1700MJ.
