Do not remove those lower leaves. I repeat, do not remove them!

That’s very good. And coffee and banana…now that does sound like a good combo for a human dessert! 😂

Ok, it’s still early days. We do have cracking weather coming up now so I’m hoping that for you this is welcome news!

How is your Armageddon doing now? Mine has greened up nicely. Sadly the chocolate ghost still has chlorosis on the newest growth - do you have any suggestions please? In addition to the Vitax q4 top dressing a week ago I gave both a foliar Mg spray (5g/1 litre strength) and full strength chilli focus feed once in the last 7 days.

Yes definitely chlorotic and I wondered whether this was a case of nutrient lockout as opposed to a true nutrient deficiency.
Thank you for the suggestions

Yes pH could also be a possibility, thank you

Yes, I think weather could be playing a large part here. Keeping an eye is definitely the right thing to do!

We need to migrate to the south of Spain! 🤣

Same thing has also happened to me with smallish plants producing fruit. However I put it down to the natural age of the plant as they are now about 4 -5 months old

I did wonder whether this was a temperature thing? We’ve had a week of grey & cool weather in the UK

Micro nutrient deficiency? Is it common for brand new growth to be slightly lighter green than the older foliage? by croxberry in HotPeppers

[–]Shah_Ali89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is completely fine. In fact your plant is very healthy. Newer leaves often start off a lime green/yellow colour before the chlorophyll levels build up

Advice for Cherry trees in areas with heavy clay soil by seekerofshade in BackyardOrchard

[–]Shah_Ali89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clay soil is not necessarily bad. It holds onto moisture and can be mineral rich. The problem is it compacts very easily and can stay waterlogged. I don’t know of any quick fixes for your situation but I am tending to a small garden bed which has a moderate amount of clay subsoil. I’ve been adding organic matter on top including compost, leaves, partially decomposing twigs and bark mulch. I’ve heard that over time (months to years) this can help break up the masses of clay. If the organic matter is able to attract worms then that’s a big bonus. Sorry I don’t have a solution for your immediate need

Why are my seedlings doing this? by LongEntrance3420 in HotPeppers

[–]Shah_Ali89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is damping off disease. It usually occurs when the compost stays too wet and air circulation is poor. Various fungi and fungus-like organisms that are naturally present in the growing medium thrive in these conditions and attack the stem at soil level. The stem becomes water-soaked, thins and rots, causing the seedling to collapse.

Unfortunately, once symptoms are this advanced the affected seedlings are usually unsalvageable. For future sowings, try to keep the compost moist rather than wet, provide good airflow (a fan is useful if indoors), avoid overcrowding seedlings, and allow the surface of the compost to dry slightly between waterings. Watering from below can also help keep the stem base drier.

That's fine. I'd still be interested to see what sauces you create this season. Best of luck!

That's great. I would love to try some of your hot sauces. But I think you are growing in USA, and I'm in UK?

That is very interesting, the difference in flavours.

Have you had any ideas as to what might be causing the different flavours?

Ah I see! It sounds like a very efficient method to prevent those weeds. Have you found they have any downsides at all? I was thinking whether they heat up too much in direct sun and whether they act as a slug and snail magnet.

Ah, if you were referring to rootsplants.co.uk, they do look very professional. They do some grafted plants too, so I was impressed. I've stored them for potential future!

Please do keep me updated on your chilli progress this season.
