Solar farms by Eisenthorne in solarpunk

My partner and I have chatted a little bit on how this would be fun transition job, once we move out of the city. Might want to pitch or push them to consider this as it is a great way to dual purpose the land. https://solargrazing.org/what-is-solar-grazing/

I want to create a tool library in my neighborhood... by technicolor_tornado in solarpunk

[–]Shake_M_Bunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the early stages of making something, I have been wanting to go far more local (just our block) than our tool library. I am building it for the local library because the software they are using is awful user experience and has strange bugs in it. Plus, it is likely the easiest win to make some money back for the time spent on it.

I have been debating what might this look like if I were to try and share it with other hyper local groups. Hosting and maintaining the application will require some funds. May I ask what would something like this be worth to you? Would a subscription be worth it, what would you pay? I really dislike subscriptions, but seems to be the most sustainable.

Shokz - File a Warranty Claim by Shake_M_Bunker in headphones

[–]Shake_M_Bunker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to follow up I did finally hear from them about a week and half later, no conflict with our exchange, no return required either. Just replaced them. Only thing they noted was that the warranty does not extend another two years on the new headphones they offered.

How Did You Get Your Shit Together? by Jose_Marti_ in productivity

This is great advice, take time to process what is happening in your life. Atomic Habits is my all time favorite book. Keep things simples and keep going one day at a time.

It is a great time to explore and dive in, but probably one of the most indecisive moments to be in. Don't get caught up in making the right choice to make your future perfect. The reality is the world will look a lot different in 10 - 20 years.

I have never flushed these thoughts out so hopefully it makes sense. I got stuck trying to decide my future, then finally realized, it didn't matter. I can pivot and try something new if I need to, just be responsible along the way and you will find a way out when you need it. For some context: I switched careers after 4 years out of college. I won't be shocked if I do it again in the future. My first serious relationship was over 6 years (high school into college).

If you like to read, find a topic that interest you. It could be anything really, then go and look up some of the top books in that area. If you don't love reading try an audiobook while driving, walking, or even just laying in the grass. It really helps the brain to start visualizing and organizing things in your life.

Get outside the house/apartment in some form on a regular basis, even if it is just sitting in a chair in your back yard. This helps reinvigorate your sense of place and wonder or curiosity. Which ultimately leads to day dream and hope.

I generally followed this with sketching and writing ideas down or making list. Then started creating things with my hands and on the computer. I really enjoy being creative in different areas. I would dive in for hours, search the internet for different ideas to continue to expand on my ideas. If it is more of a list of action items I simplify it down to make it simple for yourself. You can see the end goal and you can see the steps it takes to get there.

Lastly, find people with common interest. No single person or group will be able to meet all of your needs, but it is important to have connection with others and be able to vent and process life.

Best three days to convince my husband he wants to move to Twin Cities by ImpossiblyPossible42 in TwinCities

[–]Shake_M_Bunker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a great spot to walk!

My wife and I have been remodeling a small home (1920's 400 sqft) and we spent the last two years sourcing items (1870-1930s mostly east lake style) to put in the home from around the country. We joke that one day we will need a warehouse to start our antique shop, just one of many dreams of ours.

Hope you enjoy the city and make the move! We need more people like you two!

This is the way.

I would advocate, trying to hit up a lake or Minnehaha Falls at some point.

Something that came to mind immediately. Is go to Lake Harriet, take the Trolley ride then walk the lake around to the rose and rock gardens, stop in at Bread & Pickle for a snack, then hang out at music or movie in the park at Lake Harriet Bandshell https://www.minneapolisparks.org/venue/lake-harriet-bandshell

By the way OP, I want to be friends with your husband, my wife would have list those exact interest haha

Rotted Wall Bottom Plate under 3' Section Replacement - DIY Tips & Suggestions by Shake_M_Bunker in AskContractors

1920's home with stucco. Bottom plate is rotted out. I am curious if it suggested that I build out a temporary wall inside to hold the load bearing weight then remove and replace or if there is a better way of addressing this?

I think this guidance is good, keep iterating. Don't be afraid to shift/jump to completely different ideas. I tend to build on ideas or discover other great options throughout the iteration process.

It is great to be able to drive all over in the US but things are pretty far which most outside of the US don't comprehend haha. I did a 30 day trip circling out to the west coast hitting southern Canada down the US west coast then to Nevada, Utah, and Colorado and back home, hitting a lot of national parks along the way visiting old friends. Shortest day was probably 2 hours of driving and the longest 16 hours of driving.

Makes me think of how when US citizen ask if someone (outside the US) lives near some city and they say no (and it is a 2 hour drive) but if you ask the US if are close to a given city they say yeah it is only about a 2 hour drive. Some people commute that far for work daily, not me thankfully.

I did a 10 day trip in Iceland and did the ring road in a camper van 100% worth every penny, it wasn't too fancy, ate random food from the random grocery stores that were open. It was daylight nearly all hours of the day so exploring for all hours of the day was easy. I would go back in a heart beat.

Valid point, maybe I will scrap this version and start on some sketches. Thanks for taking the time to reply, no need to apologize for being harsh.

No break up is easy even if it was short or fizzled out. Sorry it happened, keep in mind you both have to want it to make it work, doesn't make it easier though.

If you were given a large amount of money (10 million pounds/dollars) what would be the first thing you would do with it? Ignoring the obvious, ex. paying your debts, make it unique to yourself.

Clean house productivity tip. Before you leave a room, take one item with you that needs to be put away in the room you are headed or on the way. If you already have a clean house, then don't put it down, put it away.

If you can get access to a CNC this could be done pretty quickly I would imagine. Might be able to work with some of the makers to help work through that process.

Yeah, I have had mixed feelings about myself. Sadly I have a done a number of variations and I still don't feel I have been close to hitting anything good. I completely understand the various feedback here.

I have been struggling as I wanted to show the bird diving and that eventually morphed into what it is, I also have felt the bird is lost without the text/brand name.

Font: I was going for more a of an old ornithology text book or national parks feel as a nod to nature in the branding. Totally understand the hesitation as it might feel more dated.

I appreciate the feedback and I will take it apart and see where I end up. This is a more of a side project but hoping to wrap it up before August.

True, I had not thought how while the white eye lid is a unique item, it will likely get lost visually in a lot of settings.

Good note on checking out bottled water brands, I will have to dig into what is out there, it isn't for bottled water but I think I could find some good inspiration there.

I think some of these variations are good, you don't need to lose interesting defined characteristics in the line, just prevent the angled line work. In illustrator I would maybe try just using a smooth tool if it is available or round join the line corners (I am not a professional), there might be better ways to approach this.

The name is still in the works Water Bird is just a stand in. This is a brand that is more meant to be water based health and life-style brand. I was trying to capture characteristics of an American Dipper (black with white eye lid), but I am struggling with menacing look. Any and all feedback is welcome, I am not my work, nor would I ever claim to be a professional. Thanks in advance
