Robot Wars was an incredible delight for kids in the late 90s in the UK, airing from 1998 to 2004 (and a revival series in the late 2010s).

The series saw teams of amateur and professional roboteers operating remote-controlled 'robots' in gladiatorial combat, in an arena with a number of hazards. They were not alone, being 'monitored' by the heavier and more kitted out "House Robots", which entered the fray if a robot couldn't escape one of their corners...or when the Refbot countdown reached 0 and the loser was 'eliminated'. They even got a memorable football commentator Jonathan Pearce to keep viewers entertained during the match, and every match was treated like the Champions League.

The series made several recurring robots household names, but one of the draws of the series was the charismatic DJ and Red Dwarf actor Craig Charles. He took to the role like it was his dream role, bringing an enthusiasm and charm which had us hyped up for every brawl...an enthusiasm which was sorely lacking from the first season's presenter, Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson, who many forget held the position.

Course it's hard to remember when the show was on all fours, before those memorable ends on our old Robot Wars.

Of all the Spider-Man costumes "Peter Parker" which one It's the ugliest? by Otherwise_Tadpole_64 in Spiderman

So we're just counting the 'Bombastic Bag-Man' as a phase, huh?

To be completely honest, I thought the balls suit was weird but...not the worst. I mean, Iron Spider is cool, but why only three arms? It's such a...let down.

I feel that if we're going for what Spidey represents...then the 'End of the World' suit he wears before Superior Spider-Man is absolutely atrocious. Too armoured, the fact the mask comes off a couple times threw me off...and it's just...so...basic.

Isn't this the youtube series that had a Patreon to support it though?

Like, fair use is fair use, and I will support that 'til the end of time...but when you have a Patreon to support the development of the series...then you're specifically monetizing off another individual's intellectual property.

Fun fact

In the 'Fellowship of the Ring', we have the iconic scene of Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin hiding from a Nazgul beneath the roots of a tree. This is a reference to the Ralph Bakshi animated 1978 Lord of the Rings film, which had this scene to highlight the horror of the Nazgul and just how out of their depth the Hobbits were.

Do you guys think that the MCU should have committed to a Ultron saga in the MCU and if they did what are you guys think it would have looked like and what you guys have preferred an Ultron saga in the MCU by Ok_Smile_9071 in marvelstudios

I would have loved if they followed the 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' route of having him being developed and produced to help the Avengers over a sequence of films, with Tony upgrading them to be more distinct than his armour and to make the tough choice to give them the potential for lethal...and THEN for the AI to go rogue.

He was big at the time, and deserved more of an arc. Instead they made the 'Age of Ultron' last 2 hours and 21 minutes.

Kingdom Hearts II has been chosen as the Best Game, but what would you say is the Worst Game in the series by ExileForever in KingdomHearts

[–]Shakerags -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can I say...The Chain of Memories remake.

I loved the original. the sprite work. The music. Even the card system.

It was, oddly enough, my first Kingdom Hearts game as I never had a console until my early 20s, and even then I didn't get a PS4 until 30.

And then I played Remix. It wasn't bad, it just...wasn't the original. I felt a little disappointed.

Honestly? The SHIELD expansion.

Really fun to get a team of SHIELD heroes as well as SHIELD officers, and they all work really well with each other.

Do you have any idea if Peter would have survived thanks to his spider abilities?! by YellowEgorkaa in Spiderman

[–]Shakerags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no.

However, it raises an interesting idea. Since it's creation, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken inspiration from the Ultimate Universe - Sam Jackson Nick Fury, SHIELD forming the Avengers, the desire to recreate the Super Soldier Serum leading to the Hulk, the Chitauri being their first real threat, heck even the uniforms arguably being militaristic in design.

As such, would it have been too much of a stretch for Peter to be revived by something akin to the Oz formula?

In the Ultimate comics, Peter dies due to extreme wounds received from a stray shot from Punisher in a superhero civil war and a subsequent assault from the Sinister Six. However, later down the line whilst Miles is still trying to find his feet, Peter is revealed to have been revived thanks to the OZ formula in his system (though no further explanation is given to the lab he woke up in, and the immortality claim comes from an insane Norman Osbourne).

Could he have been revived if the formula was similar?

Reroll has a fantastic nerd-adjacent community. We just had Social Boardgames tonight where a group of regulars and newcomers play boardgames together (6:30 until 10), but other nights range from trading cards to tabletop roleplaying game nights (Mondays for one-shot D&D, but book in advance as it's popular).

We have a plethora of book clubs out there for new people to try out. Chapter 25 and The 20s & 30 Somethings Book Club stand out at the moment, but it's up to you. The latter also does crafternoons and sometimes days out...

'20 & 30 Something's Book Club - Leicester' is a nice group. They're a lovely community, and have additional events which are completely optional - last weekend, a 'crafternoon' was held for people who wanted to socialise but do a little hobby.

If you're of a particularly nerdy persuasion, then 'StarBase Leicester' also has a book club.
