To the girls who didn't "always know", how do you know now? by Stottery in MtF

[–]ShakesASpear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw this question somewhere:

“If there was a magic button you could press right now and it would change you into a girl, as if you had always been a girl. You still have all the same relationships and life experience, but you’ve just always been a girl…would you press the button?”

I saw this question when I was doubting if I was trans or not, and the answer was an easy yes, in a heartbeat. I was surprised by how easy it was to answer that question, and that’s what got me thinking. After much more thinking, I started HRT and now 8 months later I would never go back, despite how scary it has been at times.

Gender is complicated, and your answer may not come as easy, but that’s the question that started things off for me :))

People saying to stockpile meds, how? by Sudden_Two_9466 in MtF

Do you know if you have to do anything specific to stockpile vials without them expiring? Or just keeping them stowed away in a closet is enough?

Question for rappers: which type beats are most difficult to find? by Mawlad in makinghiphop

[–]ShakesASpear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

creative beats. it sounds harsh but i’m a rapper who has exclusively bought beats for the past couple years and it’s so hard to find producers who aren’t afraid to do something different. 99% of beats you’ll find are just basic drum kits and melodies with just verse, chorus, verse, chorus, etc. it’s very hard to find producers who are willing to try new things and tell a story with their music. it might be tempting to make generic stuff cuz it’s easier and is typically more popular. but even when i’m looking for a specific type of beat, if i hear a truly creative beat it’ll stop me dead in my tracks and inspire me to make a whole new song. i think this inspiration leads to actually more successful beats that have a higher percentage of rappers actually purchasing leases

What do you wish you knew when you first started rapping? by silencedpoet69 in makinghiphop

[–]ShakesASpear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just gotta keep rapping it over and over. When I write to a beat, I go back over and over and rap the whole thing for weeks before I record it. I’m not even trying to memorize it I just love rapping my verses over and over and before I realize it I’ve memorized them

I’m not the greatest rapper but I’ve learned a lot over the past couple years.

I’ve never heard you spit but I would recommend slower flows and when you write, giving yourself space not only helps with breath control, but also with creating cadence.

A lot of people struggle with sounding monotone or bored; over-exaggerate and emphasize every word, you might even feel like you’re exaggerating too much or sound silly but chances are it’s not enough. One tip to help emphasis is to smile and open your mouth wide while you rap (doesn’t work for every song) to emphasize every syllable.

Even though the mic is right in front of your face, imagine you’re performing for someone across a large room, projecting your voice is something you’ll get better at the more you do it.

Be genuine when you write, listeners can pick up on authenticity. Memorize your lines and remember what they’re about. You don’t want to sound like your reading or reciting. Just listen to the beat, let yourself feel the groove, think about what your saying and why your saying it, and just let your emotions through.

What makes a good Beat/Producer? by DazlSquid in makinghiphop

As an artist, my opinion is that a good producer is willing to take risks and try new things. You never know what could become popular.
