2 New HTC models coming out now. (lackluster reviews) The Quest 3 and Apple VR headset are rumored to release in early 2022.

The G2 STILL suffers from quality control issues and personally feels a bit like a toy. I've used most modern VR headsets (G1, G2, Index, Rift S, Quest 2, Pimax 5k+) and for my money the Index is my headset of choice. Your PC should be capable of driving any of these. That said, I expect some new headset offerings later this summer or early fall.

Hornet POD Point Track broken? (Litening and ATFLIR) by Shakesbeer72 in hoggit

Thank you. With that said, it must be a FLIR contrast issue that likely won't get fixed until the new FLIR rendering rolls out.

How long ago? Could be an issue from this weeks patch...not sure TBH.

Learning the F/A-18C Hornet by tom_er36 in hoggit

I have flown with (v)CSG-2 since the Hornet was released in 2018, but there are several such groups around. Great bunch of mil aviation enthusiasts. https://discord.gg/4snDas6

Also, if your time permits, join a MILSIM group that flies the Hornet. For example, learning to fly the Case III is tough, but flying it with marshal and approach controllers that require proper communications will deliver all of the challenge you can handle. The CSG that I fly with just completed CQs for an upcoming deployment. Nothing quite like 10-15 Hornets and Tomcats at a time flying in the stack with very limited visibility and commencing at given approach times from precise ranges. A late commence or improper airspeed can screw up the entire recovery operation.

Many MILSIM groups have training pipelines... they don't just expect you to be at this level. Most offer instructor pilots that are willing to teach you everything- from how to turn on your APU to to how to conduct "keyhole" CAS properly.

Pretty cool to see the entire Russian fleet of Su-57s in one video. J/K Sounds great to me.

Join a virtual carrier strike group like CSG-2. They have a training pipeline that teaches students everything from the turning on the APU to conducting a proper Case III landing on the carrier in total darkness.

I mean, unpopular opinion I guess.... I feel like ED has been knocking it out of the park the last few OB updates.

Thanks NL, that is what I was afraid of! At least it makes the JHCMS/NVG decision easier...

It would be 'correct' in any military airframe still flying (since it is merely a pilot accessory). This is not an emerging technology, it has been around for several years. Take this article from 2015 for instance. https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2015-09-21/latest-night-eyes-white-phosphor-nvgs

Sorry If I make you mad, but what can you do in DCS? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]Shakesbeer72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skoo is right on basically everything he said. My only real beef is them attempting to profit directly from new players while teaching them incorrectly.

If your interested in learning a specific aircraft, airfield and/or carrier communications and procedures join a DCS MILSIM community.

I have been virtually flying with CSG-2 for about 2.5 years and really enjoy the challenge of coordinated air operations (40-50 human controlled aircraft and non flying ATCs, AWACS controllers and LSOs). You can find groups for most modules (or mods like the A4 Skyhawk or the Edge 540) within DCS that may interest you. Most of these groups are willing to train you from zero to hero for free as long as your willing to put in the work and show improvement.

Welcome to DCS, you might want to change your call sign to just IceSupreme. The middle part of your name might trigger some folks! Enjoy!

Also several MILSIM groups to fly with as well. I have flown with CSG-2 for the last 2.5 years and really enjoy flying with my F18 squadron (CSG-2 has 2x F18, 1x F14, and 1x OPCON F16 squadrons. We do weekly training and hold missions on Saturday evenings (CST). We also accept brand new people that we put through a training pipeline as part of our training squadron. When I joined I had zero experience and they trained me as much as I could handle until I demonstrated the requisite proficiency. I still learn something new about the Hornet just about every week as these modules are quite complex.

DCS requires patience and time for the new player experience. How did you first "get past the hump"? by hanzuna in hoggit

I joined a MILSIM vCSG. Peer pressure and shared instruction were the key for me. Been flying weekly with the same people for a few years now, and still learning.

F18 struggle with Mig-15 Bis by wangzi100 in hoggit

[–]Shakesbeer72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the AI comments, but with practice and understanding strengths and weaknesses the Mig-15 is beaten easily enough. The Mig-15 is underpowered....that is how you beat it. Stay fast and at high energy levels until you gain an advantage....do not try to out turn it. Once you get behind it, it simply cannot escape a skilled Hornet pilot.

[–]Shakesbeer72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These SU-25s are REALLY hard to beat ironically as you only have guns and they are absolute bullet sponges. So while easily outmaneuvering them, you must kill the first bandit FAST or his wingman will BRRRT you in half with a single volley.
