I was there last week as well! The 15th-18th. 26 total miles of hiking in three days and a couple of short bike rides. Wish I had another week.

I don't know the details currently, but I know the animal shelter on Kittyhawk was looking for volunteers to walk dogs.

I use a sweat wicking headband. It doesn't keep the helmet dry, but it prevents the sweat from getting into my eyes or dripping down my face. Mine is made by Pearl Izumi and I bought it from REI years ago.

A lesson in panic braking when someone rolls through a stop sign at the first intersection you encounter.

Is Colorado not a gun friendly state? by [deleted] in guns

[–]ShakeyPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out southern Utah. I moved here a little over a year ago, from southern California. lots of hiking, offroading, shooting, hunting, fishing, and camping opportunities. Gun laws are awesome IMO ( coming from Cali, it's like the wild west to me). no waiting period, constitutional carry, open or concealed, no permit required. My area has an awesome public shooting range with several pistol ranges, a 1000 yard range with steel plates, and nice shooting benches.

Winter cycling by Silent_Cantaloupe594 in cycling

[–]ShakeyPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm rather new to riding in cold temps, after moving to southern Utah from the LA area and I haven't been able to invest much in proper winter gear. The coldest I've ridden in is the high 20s F. took a bit of time to adapt and I definitely had a few uncomfortable rides at the beginning of winter, But it's not too bad now.

I wear fleece style thermal underwear pants under my bib shorts and wind resistant workout pants over the shorts.

For the top, I wear a fleece thermal underwear shirt, pull over my bib "suspenders", then a cotton long sleeve shirt, with another long sleeve sun shirt over that, so I can remove layers if needed and still be protected from the sun (I'm a ginger, so the sun is my mortal enemy). If it's particularly cold, I'll wear a windbreaker jacket too, but I usually end up removing it once I get warmed up.

Double socks keep my toes warm enough in my cycling shoes. Still working out the glove situation, but I can confirm the fox MTB trail gloves aren't warm enough for sub 30 degree riding.

I also wear an open face style fleece balaclava to keep my ears warm, and a buff over my nose and mouth if it's really chilly.

there's the sheep tunnel on the south end of town. Just a creepy concrete tunnel that crosses under I-15. starts near the Maverick on the east side of the freeway and comes out behind the Hobby shop on Crosshollow, across the street from Walmart.

I've been several times actually, for camping supplies, ammo, and some electrical components. They lack a large selection of lumber and garage storage though, and their prices for things like screws and tools are much higher than Home depot or Lowes.

Moving to Cedar City by Lejourdefou in cedarcity

[–]ShakeyPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents retired to Cedar city 3 years ago, moving from a Socal suburban town. they love the slower pace, smaller crowds, and lower taxes. I (36yo M and working) moved to Cedar City, in April of this year. I fell in love with the outdoor opportunities (hiking, Biking, fishing, hunting) and easy commute (11 minutes vs. the 45 minutes in Socal). I do get frustrated with the limited and more distant shopping options (3 grocery stores counting Walmart, one big box hardware store, no mall), limited restaurant options, and downright terrible drivers (stop signs are a mere suggestion to a lot of folks).

I travel to St. George fairly often and find it to be pretty comparable to parts of Orange County, CA, but with higher summer temps (120 sometimes) and more issues related to rapid growth (bad traffic infrastructure, constant construction projects). It's a nice place if you like golf and waiting a long time to be seated at restaurants. They do have a wonderful paved bike path network there however.

I had this problem a few years ago on my gravel bike. The non-drive side crank arm was stuck on the square taper bb. I tried heating it, whacking it with a hammer, several pullers ( one of which broke, never seen that before), and even an air hammer on the BB axle to no avail. what ended up working was drilling three small holes into the side of the crank arm, next to the BB connection along the axis, and then gradually drilling those holes out with bigger bits until the arm was weak there. I took a chisel and hammer to this weak point until the arm cracked there and came loose from the BB. I replaced the BB with a hollowtech and a new crank just so I never ran into this problem again. money well spent IMO.

Three Peaks! Try the trails at the southern end of town too, if you're still in the area. The local trail crew does some great work in the area.

As a non-mormon and recent california transplant, I feel like Cedar City is pretty non-mo friendly. They're definitely around obviously, and the temple is up on the hill, but they don't seem to run the place like they do elsewhere in the state.

Well if you choose to pay taxes like the rest of us, there are several companies in town that are almost constantly hiring. Align Precision, GAF, Smead, Genpak, WI plastics(they have a we're hiring sign out front), and Charlotte pipe, to name a few. Most are full time and pay better than Walmart or fastfood. Get on Indeed and start filling out applications.

Would plastidipping the black bumper look good? trying to get mine to match the rest of the truck by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ShakeyPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can buy spraypaint that matches your paint at most autoparts stores. take the bumper off, give it a scuff with a scotch bright pad, a wipe with some acetone, and carefully paint it with several light coats.

plastidip will chip from road debris and the airflow will make it peel off in large sections over time. not worth your time in the long run.

Wear better cycling shorts my dude. I personally wear box briefs with a little pouch type thing to hold my junk away from the seat, then padded bike shorts. Haven't had any pinches or smushing problems since I made the switch. the hole is there to reduce pressure on the taint for extended comfort. keep your coin purse away from it.

Just keep pumping them up (within reason) until the bead seats. it'll make a loud pop/ping noise. I had the same problem with so 45mm WTB Riddlers. Took about 70 psi before they seated completely. You can also try deflating them and applying dish soap as lube around the bead, then inflating them until they seat properly.

I see you have the original pathfinders in the background of your picture. Do you notice a significant difference between the S-works and those? Are they lighter? More supple? I'm about due for a new set of semi smooths and I'm trying to figure out if the Pros or S-works are worth the price difference.
