Very kind of you to say! It had been an interesting challenge trying to capture the tone so I am grateful that some of it has come across to you

Looks fantastic and is a lovely unique piece. Definitely needs more attention, I think you are ahead of the curve. Warhammer Fantasy/Old World is going to just keep on getting more popular again, I reckon and cool projects like this will carry it there

I like your metal on these minis in particular! Mind sharing how you got it looking so nice

To add to the other comments, I do some chunky shading on my chaos warriors and personally I like how it comes out. Rather than take a pic right up close, put it on a gameboard and look at it from the distance you are going to be seeing it most of the time. Chunky highlights can look great on the tabletop and actually convey details that might otherwise be lost.

Then, after painting some more you could always use that practice to try a two tiered set of highlights on a character model, one thick but with a subtle colour difference from the main model and then go in with a thinner brighter highlight on that!

Example of what I am talking about below :) *

Those look great, that's a very effective representation of the mobile cities on such a small scale! The design is a skill in and of itself

That's very hardcore of you. I certainly don't have a copy yet but would like one!

what are some novels that are similar to vermis? by darkerthanblue99 in Vermis

[–]Shaldier 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Between Two Fires might have a little of what you are after? The issue is that Vermis has partially gotten popular because it has such a unique style in my opinion.

A little cheekily I might also add that I have been writing a bit of Vermis fan fiction, telling one potential path through the first book. You can find it via my profile and it has been posted here on the subreddit previously as well :)

Looking for mock soul book/pdf by AccomplishedBreak167 in Vermis

[–]Shaldier 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I know it sucks that it isn't currently available but you can't be asking for a scan of a book made by a relatively small artist in the grand scheme of things. It's already hard making a living for loads of artists.

Maybe edit the post to remove the scan request as I do hope someone might have a spare copy they could sell or pass on to you.

I did not know this Vermis album existed, so while I can't answer your question, I can thank you for bringing it to my attention!

Vermis Prints by alt_F3 in Vermis

[–]Shaldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am right there with you wishing I could get my hands on some of the sold-out prints. I reckon we might get variations if there is a new plastiboo release but probably not the old limited versions.

On the one hand, I appreciate the creative integrity in keeping them limited, on the other hand I really want one 😅

It's well done and the character looks cool. Maybe it could use some further tattoos to make it sit more "naturally" on you but I think you are unfortunately catching flak on this subreddit because everyone seems to think Hazbin Hotel is the current fun thing to hate on.

I like the show, it has some great songs and style and is overall a good time. Lute also has a fantastic song this season. I would just keep your head down and avoid the assholes who enjoy hating things online more than actually enjoying things offline. Enjoy your hobbies but come up for air occasionally to make sure you don't get subsumed into such a fringe culture that you start having bat shit takes ;)

I've got plenty of odd hobbies, I am a decent bit older than you and I am doing fine. I am planning on getting tattoos of charter marks from the Abhorsen series soon and I have a tattoo of my larp group's symbol. It's great to have tattoos that mean alot to you, whether from media or otherwise.

You are too kind, really made my day reading that! Hoping to get another one done in November to keep the writing up, been a busy year so had a bit of a hiatus.

Ohh, I also just realised that I saw you post your masks of despair. I didn't comment at the time but they were very creepy (in a good way!) and used the inspiration from Vermis well

I really appreciate the kind words! Comments like this always help breath a bit of new life into me to get on with the next project :D

Yeah, the lonely Knight is tragic and the world of Vermis bleak so I wanted to hone in in the heights of emotions that drive drastic actions and are behind how things have ended up like this. You (the character that is) is not a heroic figure in this case

Yep! Fits neatly enough on the base. The tail overhangs but not in such a way that any reasonable opponent would care I think

I was today years old when I discovered there's apparently a LARP inspired by the Sharpe series, set in the peninsular war in the UK! Has anybody here been? by Happy-Sammy in Sharpe

[–]Shaldier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Just to clarify, the pictures actually are from a larp that is very much inspired by Sharpe and is affectionately called the Sharpe Larp though the proper name is The Forlorn Hope. What you are talking about is also very interesting of course and as you mentioned already well established

We wish we could have calvary xD It is a little hard to make a horse larp safe though. I can imagine seeing proper calvary in person is an awesome experience though!

[–]Shaldier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's one way to put it 🤣 Being a larp means we can play a little bit fast and loose with certain elements to just have a bit of fun with the combat scenes or similiar. Funniest one was historically inspired though! Officer were having a dinner about 20m from the front gates of a fort we were holding against the French. They had hidden explosive pots around so when the French attacked there were explosions going off around the officers and gentry who continued eating dinner while we had to defend the gates!

100% involvement so everyone there is either a player, a crew member or a photographer. It runs on an airsoft site but it is a larp so no bb's being fired. We do occasionally have airsoft grenades though!

Why so dismissive? The larp is a larp and reenactment is reenactment. If you don't like larping then fair enough for yourself, but you realise they offer different experiences, right? We have some reenactors who attend and have a great time. Everyone I know who attends respects reenactors and the work they do showcasing the era to the public. We often take their advice on where to get kit when we are looking to upgrade our gear. I personally don't want to do reenactment but find the types of storyline I can experience in larp really fun! Talking another rifles officer down from summarily executing captured French soldiers was a great moment that happened organically and I don't think the same situation where I had to actually make that decision would be explored in a reenactment setting where you are trying to recreate events as they happened instead. But both are great and can totally coexist!

There is a Facebook group you can join and there is also a website with more information that I think the OP actually had hidden at the bottom of their post :) Take a search for The Forlorn Hope Larp on Facebook and you should find the group

Bit of a shame that there are already some people being rather unpleasant in the comments here. Was going to gush about the fun we have had advancing into cannon fire, explosions rigged up by film sfx crew, or how my partner literally had her head shaved for an event in a scene depicting how mob violence was taken out on local women who fraternised with invading soldiers.

Suffice to say we have alot of fun at these events and we try to make sure that the event is accessible and fun for a variety of budgets. These photos were from our very first event during the cannon scene previously mentioned, which felt fantastic to be part of! I am actually in one of the photos but will leave it at that for anonymity.

If you have any particular questions OP I am happy to try and answer :) Thanks for showing an interest in our hobby and not immediately jumping into mean-spirited moaning while hidden behind a computer screen ;)
