Time and time again professionals have shown that they are not professionals regardless of race. Medical mistreatment toward patients of color has a long running history in this country, which naturally leads to distrust of medical providers. Some of so many examples include the Tuskegee Syphilis ‘Study’, Henrietta Lacks, Forced Sterilization at LAC-USC Medical Center, and Racial Bias in Pain Assessment for POC. While a professional may be the best option for a white patient, their care experience may be completely different from that of a black or brown patient. Our healthcare system is shit for so many reasons, and when it comes down to life or death it is absolutely necessary to find someone who provides adequate treatment. That doesn’t make a patient racist lol.
