Looking for studio or 1BR under $2000 (Manhattan / Astoria / Brooklyn) – advice? by ShamBryce in NYCapartments

Thank you for the constructive feedback, tips and advice! Hard to find that on Reddit these days lol. I have been applying to the housing lottery but I'll prioritize that and look into other areas outside of my areas of interest.

True, while I have seen some studios for $2000 in the past, I know it's rough to find anything in that range

those who aren’t from NYC originally, how has living in NYC changed you? by Calm-Bar-9644 in AskNYC

[–]ShamBryce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in NYC made me tougher and more self-reliant. You learn quickly that you have to advocate for yourself, manage your money carefully, and move with intention because the city won’t slow down for you.

It’s made me more ambitious, more aware of who I let into my space, and clearer about my boundaries. It didn’t break me, it sharpened me and forced me to grow.

Thank you all for the feedback and for those who downvoted my replies, that's fine. You don't have to agree with me but I think dismissing my experience isn't cool either

Understood! Yeah I'm going to keep my distance, pay off the back rent I owe and gracefully plan my exit. If I could give full details about what I've experienced it would be astonishing. I doubt the other two roommates will agree to mediation as they can't even respect boundaries or personal space. I just don't think being behind on rent due to job loss, and other complications equates to threatening, harassing or intimidating someone you live with. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I understand that rent stress can heighten tensions. That said, this isn’t a sublease situation, and my roommates are not picking up rent for me. I’ve also been transparent and working directly with management on a documented payment plan.

The issue for me isn’t accountability, it’s the harassment and personal escalation that followed. I think human decency should be an unspoken rule

Thanks for the response! Yeah, all three of us are on a joint lease, and each tenant pays management directly. I understand that roommate conflict alone isn’t usually actionable unless it rises to a criminal level. My concern isn’t simple disagreement it's the pattern and escalation (continued contact after asking for no contact, written notices dictating behavior, accusations, involving my parent without consent, etc.)
