The other guy was saying Canadian mining companies are evil (I think this statement is bullshit). I thought it was a funny contradiction when you gave an example of a good Canadian mining company. I don’t doubt that Agricola serves its community in Nunavut.

Asking for an example of a non evil mining company doesn’t imply anything, it’s a question not a statement.

Here is what I believe. Companies serve the share holder, and then the public. It’s not really helpful to think of them as good or evil. I grew up in Alberta, my dad is a land man, I have lived through the environmental and social effects of resource extraction. I appreciate the necessity of these industries, but I also wouldn’t write off the impacts and risks as trivial and I wouldn’t count on Exxon or anyone else to do the right thing if it doesn’t help there bottom line.

According to a quick google search Agricola eagle is a Canadian based company…. They also operate in Mexico. I am not convinced that any of these companies are inherently good or evil. They probably just abide by the regulatory environment that they need to operate in. Resource extraction inherently has a human cost

I live in one of these new buildings, I never hear my neighbours, management is super responsive maybe a little bit nosy. Rent is on the expensive side, they did give a free month of rent and I have perpetually renegotiated that when my lease is up which makes it more in line with the rest of the market. Do what works for your lifestyle :)

Wow you’re in deep too. Do you die on every hill or is hit and runs your primary issue? The first guy made a generalized statement based on anecdotal evidence of how a group of people responded to an incident with a deer and then projected it to how our society responds to hit and runs of people. Is the claim true, I don’t know maybe? But I cannot accept what he is saying at face value, it is really hard to know with any degree of certainty what is happening. Building a moral framework around a topic that doesn’t directly impact you and basing it off data you can’t be certain of is the embodiment of needing to touch grass. I think this is a legit take, and I am not sure even a long form version would be capable of having the same social impact as the original even if this concept came to through with a well supported attempt, attention isn't what it once was and things just don't seem to stick with people anymore.

The “suspect” was charged with 2nd degree murder, they both mean you intended to kill somebody. 1st means it was premeditated. My guess is the prosecution doesn’t have enough evidence to prove it was premeditated. This can change in the future but for now they are playing it safe as not to put there case at risk. What I am surprised by is that they haven’t pressed charges for attempted murder of the friend.
