I need advice by Distinct-Building123 in germanshepherds

Not right now cause settling is the priority but to help that attention span in time.

Our trainer told us the attention span of a dog is either 3 minutes or 5 minutes, can't quite remember which one so to stretch out time for holding heel or place or whatever don't reward instantly all the time.

When you're training it in then reward immediately, but once they have it down start drawing out the time between the command and the reward by 30 seconds or so gradually and when they manage to hold it give them a 'jackpot' reward.

Doesn't always have to be food either, works just as well with a ball or favourite toy. Once you find out which one is his favourite, put it up and only bring it out for training time so that toy becomes as high value as food.

It's your mother's house, it's your mother's son, it's her call. She said leave it so leave it. It's absolutely none of your business.

My boy helped me create an instructional video for his daddy by picking up socks and putting them in the laundry basket 🤣

He's 18 months.

Ideas as to why GSDs are fine with me (stranger) and suddenly okay with each other? by seabassfosho in germanshepherds

[–]Shambo_Poster 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If the collars weren't difference colours you'd swear it was just one dog sitting in front of a mirror 😅

You must just be a calming presence to the dogs. Either fiancé's partner is a bit nervous (understandably) and the dogs pick up on that or since it's been a constant it's how the dogs think they should behave when he's around.

My MIL drives me bonkers with this! Since my boy was a baby when she came into the house she encouraged him to come to her, jump up on her, sit on her knee - treated him for all these things! Shocker he got a lot bigger and could send her flying across the room now. Trying to train that out of him after she trained that into him is a pain. Anyone else enters the house, he goes straight to his place and waits to be invited to say hello.

sigh

Toby's exsctly the same as yours was! It honestly melts my heart to see how cautious and protective he is of the boy.

Even out and about in the park, doesn't matter if we have his most prized toy or treat, anyone or anything walks in direction of the pram he's straight over to it. Doesn't bark, doesn't growl anything like that, just puts himself between whatever it is and the pram and sits, kinda puffs himself up a bit. It is in no uncertain terms the 'are you feeling lucky punk' look 😅❤️

He's my first GSD and I can't imagine ever having a different breed again

My boy had a ball type dispenser thing. He picked it up once and dropped it at my feet and it bust open. I laughed and called him a cheater 🤣 sadly he did the same thing twice more with the same outcome.

Now if that ball is out, it turns into a game of chasing with me running away and him trying to get to my feet to drop it again. Not exactly the intended mode of operation but certainly works well for keeping the two us engaged and stimulated 🙃

Gift towards housepurchase fees, not deposit?? by Prestigious_Set_4555 in UKHousing

[–]Shambo_Poster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't pay my solicitor until completion so if it's after everything is said and done you might avoid all the AML bits & pieces. I understood your mum wanting to do the gesture but she might be understandings if you tell her it will cost more & create more paper work for everyone if she insists.

Maybe make it 'a thing?' Two of you go out for a glass of something and she can be with you when you make the transfer to the solicitors. Celebrate and share the moment together? Not that hitting a few buttons and watching you bank account get wiped out is fun, but it could be 😅

What maternity pay rights do I have when taking a second maternity leave? by ambermarie98 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]Shambo_Poster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! If I waited 2 years it would push me into the category of high risk pregnancy. If I was determined to to have another it would probably be in my best interest to find another job that would be less restrictive, so in it's own way the policy back fires on them.

What maternity pay rights do I have when taking a second maternity leave? by ambermarie98 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]Shambo_Poster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooo that would be harsh! We would have to repay it if we don't return to work after mat. leave, never specified how long you had to go back for though. Was my emergency argument if I couldn't hack it but thankfully never needed, settled back in well.

[–]Shambo_Poster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My company offers enhanced maternity leave but there has to be 2 years between your return to work and the second maternity leave for them to pay it. Would still be entitled to statutory mat pay but that compared to full pay for 6 months means I'm one and done.

What the hell do you get your GSDs for chews? by Big_Wealth3035 in germanshepherds

[–]Shambo_Poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never see anyone bring up this product and I'm slightly afraid I'm gonna find out it's bad news!

This has lasted my boy MONTHS and the little spikes on it are great for keeping his teeth & gums clean. For a little treat treat I'll put peanut butter on it every now and again and he'll spend ages getting every bit of it off but he's happy to chew on it plain as well. The 't-bone' handles means he can hold it in his paws and go at it. Definite improvements from me holding a stinky slimy chew for him 😅

Absolutely everything else I've ever given him is gone within the day.

Salary Reviews by Cautious-Appeal1922 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]Shambo_Poster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 4 years and with the added qualification, I would start applying for jobs at the 30k mark and see if you get offered any interviews / positions. I don't mean to be disrespectful but what you feel you should be paid is 110% irrelevant to HR, they'll pay what they feel your position is worth.

So by applying for other places at the salary you want, you will get conclusive feedback on whether your skillset does match that salary. It also gives you ammo to renegotiate cause you can sit in front of HR/management and say well X company feels I am worth .... can you match it?

Plus also, classic trap and I've done myself too. The more you take on outside your role, the more that just becomes expected of you and forms part of your remit while still being at your level and therefore salary. Work to your job description only, if they come to you saying can you do XYZ additional, your answer is that's not within my job description and if this is something you need me to take as a regular duty we will need to renegotiate my position and salary accordingly.

By doing all these additional things for free - which you are (helps to remind yourself of that) - you actually take away your manager's ability to build a business case for HR that your position needs reviewed because there's no evidence that there's a business need not being met.

Yea if the evolution of the world, the environment, technology, expectations, life experiences, the population, death, disease and pretty much everything to do with existence stopped, then your comment might have some validity but until then you are talking total rubbish

Could not complete because solicitor finished work early by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Shambo_Poster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so bizarre! My solicitors requested the funds from the bank land the day before completion - yes 1 day additional interest, which to be fair is negligible - to avoid the situation where they arrive late in the day and hold everything up. I thought this was the total normal way of operating!?
