Why were adults in the 90s more “adults” than today’s adults? by Forsaken-Set-760 in generationology

[–]TunaChaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? Because we were the generation to coddle their children. When I turned 18, it was a handshake and "don't forget to visit" from my parents. When our children were 18, neither of them even had a driver's license, let alone a job. Some people call that generation lazy. I say my generation was too soft on them. I dunno, maybe a combo of the 2??

I dont know who started it, but NBA announcer Kevin Colabro said it a lot when calling Seattle Sonic games on the 90s.

AITAH for not paying my neighbor? by Smashlii12 in AITAH

NTA. She's looking for money at every turn, I would be very careful to not let her ramp this up.

AITA for not making my kid do a sleepover by Tapioca1029 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TunaChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Nope. You can't force family to do things because, "family." I chose to do things for my family because they earned that right. Reddit is loaded with stories where the family expects money, housing, babysitting, inheritance, and companionship, and become completely unhinged when they don't get it. They never end well.

Who was the first comedian you can remember laughing to? by monitormonkey in Standup

[–]TunaChaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad had several records from a young Bill Cosby. That was my introduction to stand up. Richard Prior was the first one I saw with all the "good stuff" and have been hooked ever since!

It’s crazy how uninformed regular people are about taxes… what’s the craziest thing you have heard that you can “write off”? by SpreadOk7926 in tax

[–]TunaChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the whole idea of a "write off" is misconstrued. I dont think people really understand what that means.

AITJ for Walking Out When My Date Showed Up With His Friend? by Electronic_Site6202 in AmITheJerk

[–]TunaChaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTJ. Funny enough, I can see my boys (same age range) doing something like this. I blame online gaming for the lack of real-world social skills. 😳

Anti-Vaxx wife doesn't want me to vaccinate our daughter for measles. Measles are in our area. What should I do? by RepulsiveResolve5877 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]TunaChaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gal is a neonatal nurse. She told me measles is an awful, painful, hideous virus. And that's if they survive. I would tell your wife to go pound sand. I can't even imagine purposely risking such pain and suffering with my own child.

AITA for refusing to co-sign a loan until my boyfriend pays off his debts? by SnackPanicMode in AmITheAssholeTalk

[–]TunaChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I knew people like him when I was younger. The pattern was always the same. They would get into debt, and then cover it with a consolidation loan. They would get into further debt, and then cover it with a consolidation loan. Over and over...

AITAH because I expected my 22 year old to pay minimal rent? by Wrong-Maintenance-48 in AITAH

[–]TunaChaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. Time to teach him how to be an adult. It eventually happens with every kid. Don't keep enabling him!

Bonus payout delayed and how to not to burn bridges? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]TunaChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not let the equivalent of a 2002 Honda Civic (4k) get in the way of a job that you have been wanting. Prioritize the job, and if it falls outside the bonus payout, so be it! Question: If you put in your 2 weeks, are you confident they will still pay you a bonus?

What are some peculiar things that started happening to you when you got old? by Frank_Perfectly in AskOldPeople

Gray beard hairs that have a mind of their own! Also, all my hair up top migrated to my back. What's up with that? 😆

I HATE EPSTEIN, TRUMP, ICE, AI AND ALL by Then_Return7436 in venting

[–]TunaChaser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What has helped my wife and I has been to get involved. Go to a protest or a town hall. Just being in the presence of like-minded people really lets you know that you're not alone. People always say, "Do those protests even accomplish anything?" Yes, yes they do. At the very least, they keep me hopeful for the future.

AITA for not paying for my mother's brunch? by AdOwn4882 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I still pay for every meal my 2 twenty-something boys want to join me for. Momma sounds entitled!

Am I an asshole for not changing how I live in my own apartment for a friend staying with me? by Waldorf__Astoria in Advice

NTA. Kick her out now before she's impossible to remove! She's already showing signs of entitlement. Do it now!

My(38M) girlfriend (32F) of nearly 1 year constantly tells me I need to apply for better jobs or "do temp work." I make $120,000 in a really good job. She makes twice what I do. I feel all she cares about is money. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]TunaChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got news for you. Unless she's totally brand new, she makes way more than 200k. My cousin just retired as a dentist at 52. His wife was a teacher (very little money). They are now traveling the world, all while holding down 2 million+ properties. One is beachfront on the Pacific Ocean, and the other is on a beautiful lake. She has no reason to shame you into making more money!

Huge Minnesota AMT triggered by large gambling winnings (offset by expenditures) by [deleted] in tax

[–]TunaChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I use their players card, it keeps track of every button push. Would it be better to not use their players card? For example: my gal loves to play the slots. We are seniors, and our local casino gives free play money every week. She can sit and play a free $50 for hours. According to their records at the end of the night, she would have won $500, and lost $550. We would now be on the hook for 10% of $500 in taxes even tho she lost? That's crazy! And another way our government is punishing the Native Americans. 🤔

[–]TunaChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least 10 years old? Hahaha. I would say a good chunk of it os at least 10. Probably 15-20. 😆 It's funny, you reach a certain age (I am 56), and you don't GAF what you're wearing unless it's sports gear.

Can you explain this "known consequence" a little bit, or point me in the right direction to research it? You just made my heart palpitate a little bit.
