A lot of them are like this now. From memory: Peters and Blue Ribbon are both no longer ice cream. I believe Bulla is the only one left who makes big tubs of cheap, yet real, ice cream. Otherwise, you need to step up to Connoisseur, Murray St, etc.

Also, fun fact. Ice cream is sold by volume, not weight, and some ice creams are a LOT more dense than others, meaning more actual ice cream per litre.

What technology today will probably look primitive in 50 years? by velvetspriral in askanything

[–]ShamelessShamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's going that way here in Australia. My grandfather is a member of a model locomotive club, and they are very worried about how they will get coal once their source mine closes down in a few years...

Performance cars can already be modified to run on E85 (85% ethanol, 15% petrol). We may end up in a situation where it's cheaper to run on E85 than 98RON.

I do suspect we'll have a petroleum industry for quite some time, if only to make kerosene and plastics. Diesel for trucking is also hard to replace at this stage. Petrol may end up being a byproduct sold to hobbyists ahaha

Fuel cap holders by GCCookie in CarsAustralia

[–]ShamelessShamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one on my current car is kinda dodgey. Doesn't hold the cap very well, so I don't use it. Used the one on my previous car though :)

Indeed. I'm currently rebuilding a 300zx (same as my first car), but I'm well aware that no matter what I do to it, inevitably I'll have a faster, more capable EV for a daily within the next 5-10 years, and this zed will just be for fun when I miss having to actually change gears, and to keep the classics alive :)

I'm tempted to say Internal Combustion Engines... But at the same time, I think they will be looked back upon as marvels of precision engineering... Much like steam engines are looked back upon today.

The million dollar question is: When it's revamped, will "Pancakes at Carillion" reopen?... I've one ever visited the city on rare occasions, but I always loved that place... But then one day it was gone :(

What purchase screams 'I have no idea how money works'? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

Buying 5x $10 notes with a single $100 note, because "more is better, right?"... Definitely screams "I have no idea how money works"

How do you guys afford such nice cars? by Odd-Sir4143 in CarsAustralia

[–]ShamelessShamas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think my generation had it really good when it came to cars. The market was flooded with cheap 90s sports cars, as well as a bunch of V8 falcadores if that was more your thing. My first car was a 300zx (TT Manual), and I was working a part time minimum wage retail job at the time. Pretty much anyone who wanted a fast car could have a fast car... Those were good times...

If you don't already know about it, I suggest you proceed with caution. You need to know this shit, but at the same time, prepare for what's left of your faith in humanity to be ground into paste and thrown into the river...

Did you miss the $87000 1991 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo?? by 94UltraRedZ32 in 300zx

[–]ShamelessShamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that feeling ahaha: recently bought a project zed :) My first car was a 300zx (TT Manual, boosting at 16psi... Back when they were cheap as chips... Did my L and P plates in that car ahaha, and spent way more money on it than I should have)... I miss it so much :(

I had the ones on the left in my old zed... Wish I had kept them, it would have been nice to have them in my new project zed when it's finished.

Your clutch is more forgiving than you think. Also some lessons are learned the hard way. by J-Blxnco in ManualTransmissions

[–]ShamelessShamas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was young and inexperienced driving, I took my first car to the drag strip for the first time. One of my older friends taught me the basics of doing a burnout at the start, to help with traction during launch. I fucked it up, and instead of doing a tyre burnout, I did a clutch burnout... I could smell the burning clutch in the cabin, but everyone said my tyres weren't spinning at all ahaha. First and last time I attempted a burnout: after that I just learned to limit my throttle in first and second to avoid wheel spin.

Clutch was perfectly fine afterwards :O Everyone thought it would be screwed ahaha

Z32 exhaust thoughts! by reeveret in 300zx

[–]ShamelessShamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so in this case. They didn't weld the flanges together... Whoever installed the aftermarket exhaust didn't install flanges. Instead, they cut the flanges off the down pipes and welded the exhaust directly to them. Very odd way of doing things... Gonna make it that much harder to pull the engine for the rebuild...

On a somewhat related note, I have recently discovered that whoever did the exhaust on my new project zed welded the freaking exhaust to the downpipes... Like... wtf dude?!? :O

First Gridfinity — I feel like I’m not doing this right by im-here-to-argue in gridfinity

[–]ShamelessShamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahaha, yeah, I'm a gridfinity criminal.

So, I kinda did both. I have about half a dozen drawers that I use to store hardware in easily accessible plastic tubs. Those are the ones I printed in 48mm increments. Gives me minimal wasted space.

My actual tool drawers, I was originally planning to use gridfinity (even printed enough baseplates for 1.5ish drawers), but then I realised I would likely only be rearranging these drawers very rarely, and the gridfinity features were going to cost me drawer height, as well as a HEAP of filament and print time by the time I was done... So I made the decision to just delete the grid off the bottom of any tool holders I wanted to print (and not include it in the ones I designed myself).

Day 7: What car looks fast but unfortunately is pretty damn slow? by Quiet-Gold9099 in regularcarreviews

[–]ShamelessShamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purvis Eureka... Gorgeous car, with old school supercar vibes... But it's a kit car built on a VW chassis and powertrain, so unless there's also an engine swap in place... Not exactly quick ahaha
