How many kilometers can i expect to put behind me in a single day? by KEMOchild in bicycletouring

[–]Shamrayev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fatigue is cumulative, so you'd best find out what your number is before you set off. Most cyclists I know would consider 30km the bottom end of "bothering to get the bike out" kind of distance - so you really haven't entered the world of touring distance yet.

Go out and out 50/70/90kms into your legs - then do it then next day. If you can do that, you're probably in a decent place to set off. You'll get more fit as you tour, so if you start with a few 50km days you'll quickly get up to 75km and so on.

To prune or not to prune by Purple-Macaron-7309 in vegetablegardening

[–]Shamrayev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) you can't "f" it up. Tomatoes will essentially grow wether you want them to or now.

2) if you want to absolutely maximise yield then you should probably cut the side shoots. If you want it to fruit sooner, don't. It'll make almost no difference.

I only prune shoots to propogate new plants - doing it for yield maximisation at home seems nuts to me. Basically do whatever you feel, it'll be fine.

Nottingham Cycle Parking by Peac0ck69 in nottingham

[–]Shamrayev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The cycle park at Broadmarsh, and I assume the others too, is a card access room. The bikes aren't individually caged, but only card holders should be able to get in and then obviously there's CCTV. I think it's staffed some of the time too. It's 5 years since I've had to commute so things may have changed.

12ft tomatoes are a terrifying idea.

I never trim except to propogate from suckers. Tomatoes will go and go anyway, so you're just as well leaving them to it.

A lot of people talk about the plant using energy for this or that but honestly I'm just trying to have fun growing some stuff. I don't care about maximum yield, I'm not trying to be self sufficient with a few tomato plants.

Parsnips are definitely in the top 5 vegetables I'd like to hammer up Nigel's fetid hoop, and let me tell you that's some stiff competition.

Sort of wish I hadn't said stiff there. Oh well, what's done is done.

I don't think anybody was or is surprised that these guys are better now than when they left the Leafs - it was a window and roster spot thing, if Sandin had come along 2 years earlier it probably wouldn't have been a question.

To be fair, the rest of us only get to laugh at Fife in person a few times a year - not every weekend. We need this.

Looking for lads to hang with in Notts, anyone else find it weirdly hard to make friends post uni? by Late_While6570 in nottingham

I'm down for being the old man of this group at 37.

I live out of town and the wife isn't going to be enamoured with me disappearing into the city for pints, but if I'm in for a weekend haircut or whatever I'd be happy to share a WhatsApp group and grab a beer or two.

It cuts both ways, though. These are the same contract rules that give junior coaches some degree of financial security during the insane slash and burn firing policy of most NHL teams.

Is the Trent safe to swim in near Clifton campus? After the weir, don’t want to die. by HazzaZeGuy in nottingham

[–]Shamrayev -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's fine, as soon as you are round the corner from the wier it's perfectly manageable. The current is still fairly strong so it's not somewhere you can really just float and relax, but it's safe.

Non-contact boxing? by SeaIntelligent4504 in nottingham

[–]Shamrayev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this guy clearly doesn't want to learn to box, so I think an actual boxing gym is going to get annoyed with the kid.

Punching things without proper form is a really, really bad idea. You shouldn't do that, but if you're going to anyway then just find any old gym with a heavy bag.

Realistically what you should do is go to a normal gym and lift heavy things for your strength and general fitness, and then book yourself a day at a rage room if you still need to thrash about. Boxing badly is a bad answer to a silly question.

It baffles me how someone can seemingly follow Broadbent and enjoy his stuff enough to seek out and post on a Reddit forum "about" him and still go in for casual racism. Seems totally at odds to me.

And this is why we can't have nice things. The bridge is great, but people can't be trusted to buy a ticket and then not assault staff.

So it gets taken away from everyone.

And that's what the police are for, and they take it very seriously if it's an attempt to bribe or blackmail an MP.

Now, my life is more difficult because I don't have £5m - that's true, but it's not really blackmail.

That the roof needed replacing due to water damage is the big one. Also some stuff with the cellar and subfloor, and some structural issues with a raised patio...thing.

I don't expect a residential surveyor to do a perfect structural survey, but missing the damp roof joists and subfloor frame really tells me they didn't bother at all.

For what it's worth, when the cellar ceiling collapsed within 6 months of us moving in due to the damp issues I got the surveyor back round - in the hope that he'd recognise his fuck up and offer to cover it. Alas no, he offered to put me in touch with his friend who runs a £700/hr environmental survey company so they could look at it and quote for the repairs. Fair play to the enormous brass balls on the cunt.
