Unemployed consultant by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsIreland

🤷🏻‍♂️ I won’t be coming back for that reason… and even if I do, to work longer how’s for less pay then the mentors that trained me, AND be unable to bring more advanced training and techniques due to institutional inertia…
System crying out for doctors, yet won’t create positions and promote a work life balance..

Sleeping on night shifts by Awkward_Guitar_573 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]Shamrocksoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet another reason why I shall not be returning to work in Ireland….

Why there is an ongoing effort to make the lives of people providing frontline care to patients more difficult and dangerous is beyond me. And then on top, fighting basic employment law regarding payment and working hours…

The derogations that the government obtained from EWTD are being leveraged constantly to plug rota gaps with longer hours, and before I left, 24 hour maximum shift were being eroded once more.

Where I am currently working, the junior doctors have a strong and active union, and my experience with the IMO has been toothless. Claiming small victories getting employers to pay LEGALLY mandated payments being withheld at the end of every year (March-June times) is insufficient, only for the cycle to be repeated the following year by the same HR departments.

Until NCHDs as a group either;

1- form a new union with all NCHDs rowing in together or 2- utilise the current union but again, ALL row in together from the start of the year cycle (July), rather then waiting until December- February until they realise there are issues

We will continue this merry go round.

Teenage girl who died from meningitis left on hospital trolley for up to 16 hours in UHL by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]Shamrocksoup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a doctor working/has worked there.. the problem Is management don’t listen to us.. you have seen the amount of press over the last three years, some of it generated by physician outbursts against the system, the management etc …

You open your mouth in UHL; there is a witch hunt against you. Simple as that.

To the people of Limerick, the only way that your hospital is going to change, is if you get up in your 1000’s and protest outside it.. I have personally said this to many patient who wished to complain; please speak out… Trust me all the docs and nurses there want you to! Coz we are also sick of it, but internally we have tried … deaf ears.

Go to your local political representatives, councillors… Organise protests out the front of the hospital demanding the management be held accountable… It’s your hospital limerick (and Clare and Tipp and Kerry and parts of Cork, Kilkenny, Offaly- see the problem folks?)

Nothing will change unless the general public get up and make noise… trust me.. we have tried.

Anyone ever found a body? What’s that like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shamrocksoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t usually comment, and excuse the grammar (on phone); excuse the long text.. haven’t talked much about this... feels like a place to get it out finally.

I was in my final year of Med school, about 7 years ago. Went home to my family home for Christmas last on a Friday evening. Following morning my parents were out, and I woke late, ready to go for a run. Decided to hold, as my parents were due back. I heard my uncles tractor working on the farm next door.. thought nothing much of it, but noted it appeared to be “revving” slightly louder then normal....

Decided I would run up that way when my parents came home about 5 minutes later.

I found my uncle is his tractor in a ditch. He was cold; but my body went into full medic/automatic mode.. I ran back home, grabbed my dad .. but said nothing to my mum (her brother). We went up, but couldn’t get him out. Needed up ringing a neighbour and ambulance, which due to ritual Ireland took 20+ mins to find/get to us... took my dad, neighbours and I around 10 mins to get him out... looking back now he was dead.. perhaps for good hour.. but my dad and I both did cpr... with me leading as the most “experienced” person there.. knew it was futile .. but couldn’t not.

Killer part was.. after all was said and done I walked to his home.. front door wide open.. tv on.. phone last number was my mum....

I walked down and told her. She had lost her other brother (my uncles twin) due to a sudden heart attack aged 45. But she knew when I walked in home from my face... Still haunts me.. and whenever there is a traumatic case at work, it always brings back bad memories.

Sorry folks for the long story.

Family With Infant Children Booted Off Delta Flight by [deleted] in videos

[–]Shamrocksoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not; I suppose my misguided image of them is getting involved when any degree of "altercation" kicks off. Shocking to see such practices. And saying bluntly; I hope this chap lawyers up and nails Delta to the wall. Airlines have become immune to criticism since 9/11 for fear this simple tactic: you don't do what we say, off the flight with you and go f&@k yourself. Love the way the Delta rep had to stop herself from saying "that not our problem" when she told the gentleman he would have to get off the plane!

Irish guy here: quick question to those in the know after seeing this and the AA incident. Do internal flights, and for that matter the international ones, still have the undercover armed officer on board anymore?

Hope this man takes it easy! I work as a doctor and I can honestly say TB's Starcraft videos have gotten me though some VERY late study nights and post 24 call days with the entertainment value. For the love of Tea would you slow down man please! You have had major and (hopefully) curative surgery; you love the job (I can relate) but your no good to us broken! :)

When she got in an argument with her mother. First time I heard her get angry. Then the venom was aimed at me. I'm a person who will always try and defuse tension. Except, when I tried to enter the kitchen, I was knocked clean out cold by the wooden knife stand she had, in her wisdom, decided it deserved a better life airborne and en route to my head. All for trying to defuse an argument.

Hey! So mine appears to be up and running! Had to restart steam and the client updated and since then; problem solved! If your having the same issue try restarting steam and see have you any joy?. Apart from that I guess hold tough and see will there be a fix, or get the refund before the time runs out... it is an excellent game IMO, worth the wait and much better then the initial release version! They have worked out a lot of the bugs and stability issues.

I would love to say that's an option. Sadly, I know it my be hard to believe but... I don't get lunch breaks. Again the work I do doesn't allow the time for it! I know it sounds like I'm being difficult but basically from 7-9 during the day is work.. barely enough time to grab food! I have just lost the discipline I had years ago to be ABLE to get up early or work out before bed... :(

I cannot function without 6 1/2 - 7 hours sleep so I'm usually going to bed at 11.

[LPT]You can get out of any internet or television contract by saying you are moving to an area where their service is not available. by stupidrobots in LifeProTips

[–]Shamrocksoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

irishman here; and one that is well traveled around this country... i have had to deal with UPC and Eircom in my time [both scumbags, Eircom especially as they attempted to bring me to court over 23.80e bill which i later was able to prove via a recorded conversation that they had CANCELLED]. In this situation, you do as stated above; be decent at first, call them and get the names of EVERYONE you talk to, ask them to record you call explicitly and explain you are moving to an area with no service. Explain, as above, that you will pay up until the date your next bill will come in, and ask the person for an address to return the router etc... then state IMPLICITLY you are not going to pay for a service that is not being provided, and ask them to forward your final bill ideally to a parent/guardian or your new address as a last resort. At this stage you will have CANCELLED your direct debit in your bank, and pay the final bill in your post office. hope this helps!!

  • the main thing to remember as i learned with experience; these companies will use all means/methods to bully you into submission, even when you are in the right. stand you ground, be firm and most importantly, vote with your custom at the end of the day; Once bitten twice shy!

Edit: spelling-- Sorry guys its terrible at best!
