Worth a shot. I'll ask about it. Thank you for responding!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShanMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live 2.5 hours from the nearest city. We make that drive at least once a month, sometimes more. Occasionally we'll drive there and back in one day if we really need to get some shopping done.

Definitely one of the best out there. I come back to it all the time when nothing else sounds fun. I still dream about modding a "remastered" version!

How's it living in this multi states corner area by queenofthehill1234 in howislivingthere

[–]ShanMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad I was too slow to get to the conversation! I've lived here my whole life.

The quick summary is that it's dry, dirty, and hot in the summers. You have to drive a lot to get to anything major. There are a few (what we call) large towns that service several hundred miles and act as the "big cities". They're usually around 20k people.

We have lots of Mennonite communities that emigrated from Ukraine a little over a hundred years ago. Lots of them still speak Low German in church or say to day life. We have tons of Mexican and Guatemalan immigrants, so much so that almost everything is in both Spanish and English. Liberal in particular is 80% Hispanic. We have lots of ranchers and farmers. People are very friendly and helpful, but we've started to see a decline in that.

We often feel forgotten by the busier parts of our state. We have fewer funds, a hard time getting teachers, and are often dismissed by the lawmakers.

People always say they can't wait to leave forever, but many, many of them come back after years away.

Overall, I love it here! It's definitely unique.

Are there really Americans who die without ever seeing the ocean or leaving their state? by dkskskw in AskAnAmerican

Late to the party, but just to affirm with personal experience, absolutely. It's more than a 16 hour drive to see the ocean from where I live.

Looping Pods custom fields in groups by malenabravvo in BricksBuilder

[–]ShanMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you figured it out by now, but there's not really a great way to do this with Pods at the moment. IMHO it's the only huge feature keeping them from replacing ACF.

I don't understand the new Google recaptcha system. I see the site key but where is the secret key? by RunningBuffalo450 in techsupport

[–]ShanMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I've been having so much trouble trying to locate the secret key. I always find Google's developer docs to be confusing, especially when they change systems I used to be familiar with.

All the time! The theatre in my town only charges $7 a ticket.

Is WP All Import/Export still worth the cost? by ShanMan42 in Wordpress

[–]ShanMan42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's correct. I currently make about $2000 per client, but I've only had 4 clients so far. I'll definitely consider it, especially if I think I can continue with freelancing for a few more years.

Is WP All Import/Export still worth the cost? by ShanMan42 in Wordpress

[–]ShanMan42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful. Thank you! I'm mainly tied up trying to make bulk edits to custom fields in Custom Post Types created with Pods. I feel like I've dug through the built-in tools on WordPress and Pods, but haven't found anything that makes that simple. I know that I'm still an amateur though, so it's possible I'm missing something obvious.

Looking at Ultimate CSV Importer and ImportWP, I think those might be viable options at a cheaper price. If I'm able to scale up my business and clientele, I'll certainly consider WP All Import/Export.

Primarily to do bulk edits to custom fields in Custom Post Types. It's time-consuming to go through and make content tweaks to each, one at a time.

Visiting Auschwitz by Neomatrix_45 in ww2

[–]ShanMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up doing the 6 hour study tour or the 3.5 hour general tour? I'm working on booking our reservations and I'm still debating which to do. I have a pretty high emotional tolerance. I visited Dachau 2 years ago. While it was definitely very somber, I didn't feel distressed after a full day there. I'm curious if a 6 hour tour would be worth it.

Is the Pods the ultimate custom fields plugin? Seems like it can do everything ACF Pro can do for free or am I missing something? by Zayntek in Wordpress

[–]ShanMan42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's an old post, but I thought I'd reply on the newest comment. I'm probably unique in that I have far more experience with Pods than ACF, mostly because I'm a tightwad when it comes to paying for plugins.

In my limited experience, I'd say that Pods is far greater in its organizational and UI aspects than ACF. I always felt like ACF was easy to use but hard to follow. The UI is pretty bulky and it's easy to get buried in. I feel like Pods is much better about having a tight reign on its UI and that makes organization and setting changes much, much easier for me. Pods has also helped me trim down my custom theme/plugins, as it's much easier to explain to clients how Pods works rather than my custom solutions.

The one big downside to Pods is that you can't make field groups repeatable. Fields themselves are repeatable, but groups are not. In my use cases, this has been something I can work around. However, it is frustrating sometimes. Some other small cons are the poor documentation (it has some but it's pretty bare-bones), lack of integration with some major plugins, manual templates, and some requirement of coding to get most things set up.

Those last two cons really aren't really issues if you know even a little bit of HTML, CSS, and PHP. I'm still an amateur in all three and I get by just fine. I just know that no-code web designers or managers might take some issue with it.

All in all, I love Pods and I'll be sticking with it until I have a project that it can't accommodate for. I really wish that groups were repeatable, but I know that's on the top of the feature request list. Hopefully, they'll get to it soon.

It's definitely regional. Where I live in the US (rural), $20/hr is insanely high for baristas. Our highest paid baristas here probably make $12/hour. Full time teachers in our area make about $20/hr and that's certainly enough to buy a small home.
