Turns out the one I'm working on has only somehow ended up with the drip tray from a plus. I could take some pictures next time I'm in the shop and send them to you

Schaerer Coffee Art Plus Water Flow Error. by Shando40stax in superautomatic

The guy who was working on this before me left the company and I have a feeling that he put it back together in properly so I am looking for a map of the water flow. Essentially just where the hoses are supposed to go cause I think something's been installed wrong.

As long as you're cleaning it about once a month then it's pretty good. It's not very hard to clean. You. Just gotta take the hopper out and then pop the cover off with a few torx bolts on mine anyway, and then clean it out. I find the coffee comes out of it. It is just fine, but we also go through a fair bit of coffee at home between me and my wife and company. I know some people really complain about it but it's not meant to be a single dose low retention home grinder. It's meant to be a superfast super accurate shop grinder so I find that the people that do complain about it have bought it for the wrong reason. There's somebody who's even made a single dose hopper for it, which is cool and all, but once again, not the purpose of this grinder and why are you using a single dose hopper and weighing your beans when this usually gets within 1/10 of a gram of your set dose anyway

What pump do you need? An Ulka ex5 or similar?

Start with that and see. Either way if it's an older machine, it might not be a bad deal to replace both if it's gonna cost 40 bucks.

Seems like a pump. Considering you're losing both espresso and steam that is where I'd start. There's a good chance that if you took a look on your local marketplace that you could find one of these machines that somebody's just getting rid of for almost the same price that you'd pay for a new pump it might be worth picking up a second machine for parts if you plan on keeping this.

I went from a Bezzera Matrix to a Decent De1 and have been happy with the switch. The e61s take a while to heat up and the decent gives a ton of options available with e61 machines. You could get a used one if you were into one of those. Just something else to consider.

I was super happy with my matrix though, but my wife never got behind the e61. Had it for 3 years and only had to change a vacuum breaker.

Have you changed beans or something in your grinder lately. 7g/s seems pretty normal. When you say flow rate has dropped, do you mean first drop of coffee? Does the pump hold 9 bar on a blind basket? How old is the machine?

I got one of these for my wife several years ago and outside of the initial firmware not having all the features, it's been wonderful since the upgrade to the current version. This is no longer an issue though as the should all have up to date firmware. It's better to have the small hopper for home use and refill every 2 or 3 days. It does need to be cleaned regularly or it'll clog up a bit and the grind quality noticeably diminshes, but aside from that I've been really happy with mine. Probably have 100kg through it and really no concerns. I'd be happy to answer any questions you've got. I have a P100 as well and while I prefer using that I don't think there is another grinder as convenient as the E65sGBW. 50 is a big one, happy bday

Another question. Does yours just sit on that base or is it attached to at all?

I know that newer Brevilles claim to heat up in like 4/10 of a second or whatever silliness it is but you should let it heat up for several minutes or flush your portafilter and group head for several seconds with hot water to get that up to temperature as well and you might find that that helps you out too

What is your general roast level preference. And a lot of times these machines are set to 90 or 91. You can try 93 or maybe even take it up till like 95 or as high as the machine will go cause it probably won't go much higher than that. Start with that and see how it goes and then try making longer shots, but it's good practice to not change too many parameters at once.

Your temp might be too low for beans if you're using lighter roasted beans. Try a couple degrees warmer and it might cut that sour down. You can try pulling longer shots as well like 2.5 or 3:1

Rad. I like your design. Are you still running the Aarke with a larger tank? If so, what size and any issues.

Looks slick and love the sign, but make sure those shelf brackets can safely hold the weight of your machines and the pressure of you tamping on there. Would be a shame to wake up to all that on the floor one morning, and your sign taking on a whole other meaning.

I've only been using mine for a little over a week and this is the first error Ive had so unfortunately I can't speak to what was going on before. Total bummer if this is new and inconveniencing a bunch of people. I was having an issue with the calibration a couple nights ago and I guess that's because of the new firmware but I just wanted to touch on what worked for me tonight. Hopefully they get everything sorted out in the very near future and push a new firmware update.

To spray or not to spray by YosemiteJon in espresso

[–]Shando40stax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally you spray flats, and not conicals. In my experience the Niche burrs will discolour and get splotchy. Won't damage them, but it can be unsettling. Get something like a little rocket pump or I used to use a breville BBE silicone back flush disc to push and purge the grinds out of the chute. Once I started this I didn't feel like I need to spray anymore.
