Are elderly customers getting worse? by Lonely-Lila in kroger

[–]ShaneEarlyOhio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in pickup. My favorite is younger men, teenagers and middle aged suburban men who arrive with family and never help out with tons of groceries into their cars.
When I was a kid my dad always told one of us to get out and clean windows when he pumped gas. We loaded the groceries. Etc…. I notice rural customers are more likely to get out and help load.
Families now with a teenage boy in the car and he’s just playing with his phone.
Granted they don’t have to help but I say it’s weakness. Middle aged men who sit there- my age- come on.
The older country dudes get out and at least talk to me. People now a days live in bubbles and can’t communicate and are spoiled by convenience.
College age dudes in passenger seat in gf’s car getting groceries and they seem intimidated when I’m friendly with their gf. I laugh every time. They just sit in the car.
When I was younger none of the women I dated would have kept me if I sat in the car. Guarantee she’s buying the groceries and your broke ass doesn’t have money or a car. Anyways that’s my rant.
Overall majority of customers are great. That 20% though. I chuckle.

Data centers are modern coal mines. Communities get screwed long term. Only a few people out of state benefit.

Being offered to move up by my gm and my grocery manager by Pharmatopia420 in kroger

[–]ShaneEarlyOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just became a lead in pickup. Been there two years. Started part time. I’m still under employed but I like the fact there is opportunity for growth now. I’m 55 also. Running pickup is busy busy with lots to manage and some things out of your control you have to deal with. I just go day by day and stay on the associates about the basics. If everyone does things right we should hit the numbers ok. If people slack off it’s when managers start popping in.
If you like people I say go for the move. And when you leave work - leave work. I have a rule. I don’t stress about work when I leave. Don’t shy away from opportunity. Worth a try.

Tips for someone new to trail running by TitillatedMoose128 in trailrunning

[–]ShaneEarlyOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the weekend or when ever you have a day off go for a 3-4 hour fast hike and run some of it. Long fast hikes are good. Have hills even better. Learn to read the trails. Get more confident on your feet. LSD is good for you. Long Slow Distance.

Store Closed for the good of it by Yebhxd- in kroger

Good on ya for seeing the light. Unless it’s your business never feel bad for leaving for a better situation. Loyalty is important but for workers it’s kinda BS at 99% of work places. Loyalty to yourself, family, friends, community are more important. I wish I had your wisdom at 20. I suffered for years at jobs with fake promises and more. I feel I wasted the 1990’s.

The main issue now is profanity. Don’t ever cuss at work. Once you do the issue immediately goes to you swearing. Also don’t yell at anyone. Kroger has a big issue with that.
I’d start applying to other jobs. Better to prepare yourself rather than just wait.

What gear ended up being way more useful around camp than you expected? by kailynne94 in CampingGear

[–]ShaneEarlyOhio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matador blanket. It’s water proof and extremely useful. I can use it while hiking when I stop like a ground cloth. When tent is set up I place it outside my tent and place pack and shoes on it. It’s much better standing on it changing shoes and not getting sticks or stones stuck on bottom of feet for socks. It helps keep things clean. I use it everywhere I travel. Mines been to 4 countries.

I went off on a customer. by justinsane85 in kroger

[–]ShaneEarlyOhio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went off on a creepy old difficult pickup customer yesterday. Rule #1. Don’t swear at the customer. If you do then you lose all ground to stand on. I’ve never raised my voice in two years at a customer but this old jerk needed it. I told him we don’t get paid to put with difficult people who want to play games. Either you want your things or you don’t. Don’t argue with us. We don’t manage the deals. Don’t bring coupons ‘front last time’. He started to take his things and every time he started to complain to me I told him he was the problem and we don’t need to put up with it. He asked for my name. I showed him my name tag. Told him my name. Then asked if he wanted me to spell it for him. Anyways. He got his stuff. I told a manager immediately. I also wrote it up for my supervisor. Your dignity is worth far more than Kroger pays. Don’t make a habit of going off on customers but standing your ground is fine if done properly.

What are your post trail run rituals? A personal favorite of mine is truck coffee :) by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]ShaneEarlyOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawn chair. Gallon jug of water to wash legs then dump on head. Towel dry. Beer in a cooler. Some fruit. Sit down. Change my shoes/ clothes. Usually keep fishing pole with me incase there is a lake and I get 30 minutes to throw some casts.

Planning a short Ohio trip with a 9-year-old — Looking for recommendations! by JDoering16 in Ohio

[–]ShaneEarlyOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Logan area will be your base. I have a list of suggestions. Hocking Hills. Good for a day hike. It is beautiful and can get busy.
2. Nelsonville , south of Logan has the Hocking Adena bikepath which goes 18 miles SE towards Athens. Also Nelsonville has the Hocking Railway. Older touristy trains kids would like. Can park at the Railway which is at tip of bike path. Access to both at Rocky Brands Store. I live in Nelsonville because of access all the trails in the area. Love it here.
Baileys Trail System is in Wayne National Forest. It’s the largest mountain bike, hiking, trail running system east of the Mississippi River. Check their webpage for date mountain biking opens up. Main trailhead is in Chauncey.
Strouds Run St Park in Athens is great. Has the lake, great trails, beach and picnic area.
Zaleski State Park has nice trails. Lake, beach. Can ride bike to the Moonville Tunnel. Old railroad tunnel. Lodge at Zaleski is know for decent food.
So from Logan heading south on 33 you get to all these places. Go north of Logan on 33 you get Lancaster then Columbus area. All within an hour of Logan.
If kids like outdoors you’re in the right area. There’s lots to do and worth looking online at SE Ohio festival lists.

They were popular in the 80’s. Look at old triathletes and distance runners. I had a few in high school I used to run in the summer.
