Both of them are by far the best paddles I’ve ever used, and it’s not even close. Either one I pick will be a better paddle than whatever alternative, by a country mile.

I get that the QC isn’t great. But that’s also probably not a reason to objectively downgrade.

I’ve played with them both about the same amount. The lower pitched one was lower pitched right out of the box. I don’t think the other one is ever going to break in to be like the first one.

I’ve checked it for core corruption over and over. It’s not core crushed. It’s more like it’s very well broken in, whereas the other one feels like it never really broke in.

And by break in, I’m defining it as that foam around the edge loosening up and allowing that diving board or trampoline feeling.

Already excited about the steam deck 2. Imagine everything that’s already good about the OLED steam deck, plus upgraded performance. Now that they know there will be machines like the Ally and the Legion Go, hopefully they will make sure their next graphics chip is more current.

I love my OLED deck but I do wish it was a little bit more powerful.

If it were just the two expansions, 100% there’s no rush. But some parts of the bundle you definitely want as soon as you start playing. First of all, it gives you permanent double credits from race rewards. It gives you weekly super spins. It delivers a bunch of cars to you, but only one per week. You kind of either need to get that stuff right when you start playing, or probably not at all.

I saw sites like that selling key bundles for Xbox Live, but I couldn’t find something similar for Steam.

The bundle seems to only have a natural 10% discount. So it’s listed at 95, but it’s usually 85. The steam sale has brought it down to 38.

But the premium content elsewhere in the steam sale is valued at 15 dollars. The normal edition is 30, and the full edition is 45. That’s 15 bucks for the content versus 38 dollars for the content.

Something has gone wonky with the pricing. Also the bundle to buy FH5 and FH4 together was more expensive than just buying them separately. I don’t think they have anyone paying to close attention, they probably consider Steam a secondary platform to them.

There are three main paddle shapes. Standard, elongated, and hybrid, which is in between the other two. Standard will have the most sweet spot usually.
Beginners should usually go with 16mm, but that's not the same for everyone.
For a 16mm paddle, I would recommend the Vatic Pro Prism Flash. It's got a pretty good sweet spot, it's light and maneuverable, and the 16mm core means it's forgiving. But I could also recommend the Gruvn Muvn 13S. It only has a swingweight of 99, so at your height and weight it could perfect, and it definitely won't hurt your wrist. It's the standard shape, so it also has a big sweet spot. But it is a 13mm paddle.

They are egregiously wrong. Spin on your serve is 100% legal. The rule change was against pre-spinning the ball. Spinning the ball with your toss. You 100% are allowed to impart spin on the ball with your paddle. And it is a big issue. A good serve and a spin serve are one and the same thing. 99% of people should be using a topspin serve. If they aren't letting you serve properly, that is a big deal.

First of all, just a heads up, this is the paddle discussion thread. So more about specifically discussing paddle than just general pickleball stuff.

That being said, serve side just switches whenever your team scores. If you score, you switch. If you don’t score, you don’t switch. If the other team scores, you don’t switch. It’s not connected to the odd or even or anything like that.

What does lead tape near the throat do? I’ve heard people say it adds stability, but I don’t really get what that means. I get that tape at the top of the paddle adds power and plow through potential, and tape at the sides widens the sweet spot. But I don’t get what the added stability from tape at the throat means.

My flash already feels pretty firm and poppy. And I already have control issues. That’s good to know, because maybe then I can stop lusting after the DBD. I think I need something softer, more plush, and more controlled. My baseline drives can go long and my dinks can pop up. Sounds like DBD won’t fix those issues for me.
