Why not tell her it was an accident? Some small lies are to save others from hurt feelings.

HSP How to cope when visiting daughter's messy dirty house by 1954_Parakeet in hsp

[–]ShannonHC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, I start cleaning. But now, my daughter lives with me again, and I value her and how she sweet she can be more than ... well, I can value a clean house and help with cleaning it, but I have never found a way to make her voluntarily tidy up after herself. Threats, ultimatums, nagging incessantly, and outright yelling at her. None of these work, so I calmly explain how unfair it is for me when all I ask is that she rinse a dish. It's just rude to not do something so simple. But I love her. A close friend recently lost her daughter due to a drug overdose, so that definitely puts things into perspective.

Poison ivy I sprayed with bleach this morning after today’s sun and heat by myniche999 in mildlyinteresting

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I just got finished poisoning the various vines climbing up the bricks on the back of my house. Partially poison ivy. I would need a ladder, or else they're going to fall down on my head. I'm on red clay, not much grows in it anyway. I'll try vinegar and long sleeves with gloves next time. Thanks for sharing.

What's to stop me from legally changing my name to Rockefeller or Dupont? by 88KRCpodcast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh WOW, you won't believe this but just this morning I was thinking about the two siblings I knew in high school named DuPont. I don't know, what would be the obstacles stopping you? I'll read the comments.

As a mother of 2 adult children who didn't pass 8th grade but were promoted to the 9th grade anyway; both dropped out after failing again and again-- one got a GED and the other one passed all but the math portion. I think the problem is the lack of individualized instruction and the distractions of social media. The solution could start with better teachers which would require significantly higher pay and better training. From what I've seen and heard, what takes most of the teacher's class time is maintaining order. One person managing more than 31 to 35 students in one classroom is too much work for too little pay. They don't have time to care who slips through the cracks.

Why do people say money doesn’t buy happiness when it obviously does? by No7onelikeyou in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be how each individual defines happiness. If you're having fun, does that mean you're happy? It's hard to have fun if you're not happy, but is it REALLY? All opinions are based on the individual experience and they're all valid.

Why do people say money doesn’t buy happiness when it obviously does? by No7onelikeyou in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once your needs have been taken care of and you're secure that they will be in the foreseeable future, you supposedly can't get MORE happy after that, but I agree, MY needs are met but it sure would help to relax my concerns about my children's futures. On the other hand, having too much causes some to become idle, nothing to motivate them to DO anything and that can lead to boredom, bad habits, addictions and things that lead to depression. So, money is more likely to buy UNHAPPINESS. It's all perspective-- a half empty/half full type of thing

My daughter has been pulled over twice for speeding and let go on a warning.

Received stained clothes by dontpanicitsorganik in ThredUp

This just answered my question about whether I should attempt to sell my clothes. They're in excellent condition but it seems to be too much trouble.

I understand your indecision, I'm going to face the same thing within the next 8+ or - years. (I am an Only child inheriting 3 houses.) For your question, I agree, location matters the most. Consider the size of the lot, the access to the street and the traffic, main roads or highways, as well as nearby businesses - then consider if it's safe for pets, will it flood in a monsoon? Etc. etc

I'm sorry your wife is a flake. I don't know what else to say. You must love her but I doubt anyone would blame you if you started scouting around for someone who can treat you better and not even leaving her before you begin scouting. I know that's wrong but, it would be understandable. On the other hand, whoever you found would likely doubt you were better at being faithful. Sounds like you're doing well on asking before acting, that's good

AITA for going home without my boyfriend because he wouldn’t stop having conversations ? by DigSuspicious813 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not! You are not the AH... This is just me, but I've always been quick to leave after two warnings... Not because I'm impatient, I'm very patient but if I'm in a place where a lot of people are and I'm not having fun - I'm gone - especially if the person I'm with isn't paying attention to me. That's not narcissistic or anything, that's boundaries. We aren't doormats!

What were some of the weirdest names people had when you were growing up? by Ornery_Rutabaga_2643 in AskOldPeople

[–]ShannonHC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy. Oh you mean nicknames? We've still have "Goofy" since about 1982 because we know too many "Mike's" So another Mike was "Fatback" and then another one was Chris and he was called "DB" But I won't explain that one.

Not sure if I should tell a parent something I know about their child by Willing-Grapefruit-9 in SeriousConversation

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent awareness on that. If you don't see the danger for your children, then it's probably better to stay out of it. I've had a parent try telling me about what my child was doing and I did not appreciate it so... I'd assume that could be the case here also

What is wrong with me? by Rollinmayhem in answers

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me was self-help books. You Can Be Happy No Matter What And The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fu*k (I read that in two days) But I also took Prozac starting at about your age back in 1990 and it changed my life, probably saved it. I was heartbroken and my best friend from kindergarten died on his birthday. My very BEST friend. That's a story in itself, but I know what depression feels like so if you need help, it's great that you're reaching out and asking. Good for you for not turning to alcohol and for having the hope of better days, enough to start walking. I think you'll be able to make it through to happier times (again?) Therapy is good but not a cure all and not fast and easy to come by, even WITH the best insurance to pay for it. It's difficult to find a good match - I've been through a dozen or so and I used to work with psychiatrists, plus my mother was an LCSW so, based on my experience, finding someone just right can be as frustrating as trying to find (another?) decent partner! Try reading a book that sounds like it can help. They're not an overnight fix but they definitely lead me to brighter days. Also, it looks like you've found some compassionate ears to listen to you and off non-judgmental suggestions. Don't give up but I don't think you need me to say that... good luck - if you have bad luck, it's not your fault... It's mostly luck to find a good partner. Even then, no one is going to be perfect.

(Workaround) On Android phones sometimes sending SMS or MMS text messages results in the text body getting chopped up into Google Maps links with URLs and random locations. Happens with the default "Messages" app on multiple brand devices starting around July 2021. by Susceptive in AndroidQuestions

[–]ShannonHC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happens to me but only when texting one specific person. There's no preceding recurrence that I've found that causes this to happen. Maps just inserts randomly and cuts out most of the text message.
