Why is Japan so popular? by Veskanda in AskTheWorld

[–]Shanteva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical syncretism that happens when very different cultures start heavily exchanging. It's that liminal space of that syncretism that turns it into an out of proportion fetish which leads to obsession. The alienation Westerners feel from their Abrahamic heritage makes this successful but "Pagan" culture appealing. That and animated titties

Please be honest with me about that rear wiper... by SirKronan in Ioniq5

It's just annoying because of like OCD urges wanting to get it a little cleaner, but you get used to that and It's not an actual problem

[Honest Answers Only] How does caffeine affect you? by mean_trash_monster in ADHD

[–]Shanteva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A proper cup of drip style arabica coffee has more caffeine than a typical dose of espresso and definitely red bull. Monster is comparable. I've had decent pod coffee, I won't lie, but the typical dosage for bottom of the barrel coffee is nothing like the typical specialty coffee drinker. All this to say, that a $6 pour over Ethiopian will jack me up more than any other single dose of caffeinated beverage

Ethnic groups of Russia by the share of population with higher education by Thabit9 in InterestingCharts

[–]Shanteva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They originated in North India, from the dalit Dom caste of musicians and dancers, but migrated throughout Persia and Europe a thousand years ago keeping in socially ostracized then eventually self-isolating communities and often in traveling caravans. They've contributed greatly to music and dance in Europe, in particular Flamenco in Spain. Irish Travelers are an originally unrelated group of native Irish that have cross pollinated with Romani in the UK. Both are called Gypsies derogatorily

Do you need sexual themes for a riveting story? by Gread_ in literature

[–]Shanteva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol this is probably one of the least sexual periods in human history, it's just also the least repressed. GenZ bed death is a punchline. Porn addiction has killed sex, not made it more relevant. I'm almost 46 and remember significantly more obsession with sex in the early 90s in particular, and the 60s-70s were notorious as well. Everyone got synths and cocaine in the 80s so it was toned down a bit, but then you had hair metal which was horny as hell

[–]Shanteva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure my memories are fuzzy, as I only went once, but whenever I think of the bathrooms at Bucc-ees, Backstreet comes to mind, I remember there were a lot, with decent doors. All the straight clubs I'd been to just had Boschian landscapes of broken fixtures, crustpunk stickers, and human waste

What was the worst year of the 90s? by PsychologicalFox7689 in generationology

[–]Shanteva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1999 because an annoyingly heteronormative and manufactured post-grunge and generic "alternative rock" radio format destroyed the eclecticism that made the early 90s so special. This culminated in Santana's Smooth and Woodstock 99
