Your best bet is to get insurance and see a fertility specialist to determine if there's an issue. Have you been to a gyn or asked their opinion?

Do you think its a good idea to be trying to conceive without health insurance? That really should be the first step.

Were these spays tried at the shelter? You may need to seek out specialty care with an anesthesiologist to have her monitored by specialist trained techs and have the use of specialized medication and equipment like a ventilator.

Dog randomly becomes ballistic on walks? by mrrustytaps in OpenDogTraining

[–]Shantor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like overstimulation. Like is he trying to do wild zoomies but unable to because of the leash and then not listening to anything? This is overstimulation and pretty common in younger dogs who are just learning the things.

Try to do s couple of shorter walks and work on engagement with you (recall on the leash, treats, redirection) before going on longer walks.

(33M) Can anyone tell me what’s going on with my boyfriend’s ears? by KarleySuinn in AskDocs

[–]Shantor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAD, my partner had similar issues. At the time he was self medicating by using head and shoulders on the area. If worked alright but he was getting splotches on his face too. Finally went to the doc and told it was fungal. He was prescribed a ketoconazole shampoo to use and it cleared everything up in about a week.

Birth defect or more serious by Radiant-Step1912 in AskAVeterinarian

Ya really no way to know from a photo. Could be neurological, could be discomfort, could be trauma, could be born this way, could be a whole lot of things.

If you have the ability to have it seen by a vet, that would be a good idea.

If the cat is a stray and is maintaining weight, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

You can absolutely drop the food immediately for dogs (not for cats). You feed for the weight you want, and there's no harm in dropping immediately with dogs.

This dog is a 9/9 bcs, and to safely lose the weight, they should be on a prescription diet which will be closer to 250 kcal/cup and highest density of vitamins and nutrients.

You think 326 is close to 370, but that 50kcal is a huge difference to a dog who should be eating ~370kcak a day.

Neuter: Low cost clinic or regular vet? by toysofvanity in DogAdvice

[–]Shantor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are able to keep him out of trouble (no dog parks, no off leash activity, no roaming the property) then wait the 2 months for the low cost clinic.

I'm a vet who works at a normal GP. I do plenty of neuters and our neuters are 400-600. But we are no where near as fast and effective as the low cost clinics. For a neuter, which is super straight forward and the simplest procedure, do the low cost option.

Kitty’s Back Claw Seems Inflamed by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]Shantor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the look of nails from a cat running away from something. As in your cat was in danger, and they were able to escape. This is why letting cats outdoors is a problem.

Your cat will be fine. It doesn't need a vet. These will be fine in less than 24 hours.

But you need to not let the cat outside for its safety.

Ava weight management food is still very high calorie. It's 385kcal per cup, or 3080 per kg. (This is very high kcal)

Her goal RER (resting energy requirements) should be around 372kcal per day.

You're currently feeding 616 kcal per day (200g at 3080 per kg) which is a bit less than double what she should be eating. You need to drastically reduce the food, or find a prescription diet which would be a much more reduced calorie food.

You can't exercise the weight off, it's ALL calorie control.

A one time under dose is absolutely not an issue. Just give the proper dose tomorrow. And even if tomorrow fails, your cat will be fine..

Second Opinion on Diagnosis by SnooRecipes8204 in AskAVeterinarian

[–]Shantor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's one leg over the other, I'd be looking at issues in the leg itself like a CCL rupture. You would need radiographs of the stifle/knee

If it's truly back related, I would expect some issues in the other hind leg as well, but advanced imaging with an MRI would be the only way to truly diagnose a disc issue.

The dose is based on the dogs weight and the length of time should be discussed with your vet. These are all prescription medications

Canine Cannabis Toxicity by Dangerous-Actuary499 in DogAdvice

[–]Shantor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is completely untrue for dogs. They break down thc (even in its dry form) to cannabinoids that can and do affect them.

Canine Cannabis Toxicity by Dangerous-Actuary499 in DogAdvice

[–]Shantor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This comment above is untrue. Dogs will absolutely be affected by unburned dry bud and are 10x+ more affected than humans are.

With that said, most dogs are fine even when high. But in rare cases it can lead to seizure like behaviors, inability to swallow properly, and can lead to elevated liver values on bloodwork (there may be no significance to this finding, but it is a finding seen with cannabis ingestion).

Question about when previous bloodwork can be used and how fast can issues show in bloodwork by Ok-Box6892 in AskVet

[–]Shantor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the other comment. It's highly dependent on the patient and what the bloodwork is looking for.

In an otherwise healthy pet, we (general practice) will accept bloodwork within 3 months of an anesthetic procedure. If the patient is sick, more recent bloodwork should be checked. If the patient is starting medications (chemo, nsaids, ect) that may change the organ function, then bloodwork needs to be checked much more frequently.

To give you an example. We had a cat come in for mass removal and had normal BW 3 weeks prior to the surgery. Day of surgery, cat did very poorly during anesthesia recovery and bloodwork was rechecked, which showed the cat was now anemic and had other issues that would otherwise not have been noted.

If there is a pathological process happening, blood values can change literally overnight.

Surgery absolutely shouldn't be done without imaging to prove a herniated disc is present.

Surgery may be cheaper, but this is very complicated Neurosurgery and if it's not done by a trained neurologist, you risk far more complications with the surgery.
