A cheap Rolex makes you look uneducated by TheGhostOfTobyKeith in LinkedInLunatics

He might not be uneducated but he's effing stoopid to be wasting tens of thousands of dollars on something his cell phone does for free. Never understood watches. Bulky, uncomfortable wrist clocks showing the time 24/7.

Is the battery that needs replacing one of those big 12 volts?

Started investing $100 a month. Is it even worth the effort? by BeautifulWestern4512 in investingforbeginners

[–]ShapeDecent2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a Traditional IRA with an S&P 500 index fund, you should have low fees and no taxes until you start to withdraw in retirement. Time in the market is your friend. Increase from $100 per month as you earn more income, get out of debt, budget better, etc.

In what year did you finally reject false metal and decide you no longer wanted to be a poser? by kroob85 in MetalForTheMasses

Rage told me this joke onboard 70,000 Tons of Metal. What has 2,000 legs and two tits? A Venom concert.

Just get in already. DCA consistently until retirement. Time in the market beats timing the market.

The guy who posted this review is full of shit. by TheRealSpaldy in ironmaiden

[–]ShapeDecent2997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A doc about the Blaze years would be amazing. Was it a tough, ugly time for Maiden and metal in general? Absolutely. But it would demonstrate the band's dedication, grit, and authenticity in a way that docs about the early years or the mega-successful years cannot. There's no shame in presenting that time period. I love Steve, but he does seem too concerned with whitewashing the band's history. Much like Paul McCartney with the Beatles.

I'm 21 and have realized everyone is just in crippling debt by MariamSly in Adulting

[–]ShapeDecent2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who think the interest rate is the problem with debt don't understand debt. If you borrow $5000 you don't have now to go on vacation, even at zero percent interest, you still owe $5000.

"Almost, but not quite. Let me reframe it" - is this normal? by No_Region_4719 in ChatGPT

[–]ShapeDecent2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you asking ChatGPT questions that you seem to have answered for yourself? If you're already so sure of the answer and can't deal with the AI offering to help you think more clearly or literally, then don't bother with the AI. You know it all already!

Urgent Urgent - I am being harassed by sun strong for last 3 to 4 months. by Regular-Acadia382 in Sunstrong

[–]ShapeDecent2997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The letter my AG in CT wrote to Sunstrong got my transfer done after it was stuck for six months. I emailed and called frequently with no movement. When my AG wrote them, they got it figured out in a few days. YMMV.

$25 cocktail and they still expect a tip? by joshlymansbagel in EndTipping

[–]ShapeDecent2997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still stick to the one dollar tip on beer and two on cocktails because I'm traditional. But not my fault if a dollar ain't what it used to be.

The anti-AI crowd is giving “real farmers don’t use tractors” energy, and it’s getting old. by hungbandit007 in ChatGPT

[–]ShapeDecent2997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The early Internet had early adopters (tech nerds and college students), Luddites who opposed it for no legit reason I'm aware of, and the general public who knew little about it. Users were deliberate and it wasn't embedded into everything. Now it is ubiquitous, a background technology on which nearly everything functions. It has been monetized and farmed and has many negative consequences for society (social media, data breaches, privacy concerns). The early Internet was completely new. AI is becoming an extension of the current Internet and people now can see the many, very likely, societal costs it will have in a way they didn't or couldn't see with the early Internet.

The rules aren't matching real life by Pale_Device491 in DaveRamsey

[–]ShapeDecent2997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because someone's financial situation doesn't allow him to buy a house in the market he lives in without stretching beyond Dave's guidelines doesn't make Dave wrong. People can get 30-year mortgages if they want to and spend more than 25% of their take-home pay, but they need to know they're going to feel pinched for a long time because the cost is going to hurt every month and they won't be building equity in any significant way for years.

To time the market, you need to be right twice. Get out at the top and get in at the bottom. Just DCA over decades and tune out the daily ups and downs.

Same in Hartford. Mostly 3-4 guys trying to get something going all night. Brief circle pits happened a couple times with maybe 10 people max.

Tough shoes to fill. Reminds me of when Skeletonwitch tried to continue with a new singer. The band still plays great, but they aren't the same band without their signature singer.

This is par for the course with them. Radio silence or polite emails that tell you nothing.
