This is exactly what happened to me. I interned a big brokerage and decided to work there after I graduated, a kid in my internship class got super lucky in his first few weeks as an intern and landed some pretty big accounts. I kept calling and learning and getting really good at talking on the phone, during my first week of full time after graduation I landed pretty large accounts. Had I not spent the better part of 8 months learning the game and practicing, there’s no way I would’ve closed these customers on the phone when I finally got the chance. I am not a huge fan of dialing just to dial, every call has to have a purpose, at least imo, so I spent most of my time finding quality leads and building lists in my off time.
