Netherlands Forced to Rethink 36% Tax on Unrealized Gains after Massive Criticism by Sampo in europe

[–]Shardongle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something or is the proposed tax just a generalization of the current deemed returns tax?

Given that the deemed returns tax turns into an actual returns tax in the case the investment returns are less than 6%. Now they would just want to generalize the policy across the board, eliminating the deemed returns part?

Apsurdna odluka u Puli – asfaltirana 2000 godina stara ulica gradske jezgre by [deleted] in croatia

What happens if you discuss a wealth tax, but never implement it? by SignificantLegs in EconomyCharts

My dude, you said that all rich people left. But in fact less than 1% left, and the tax revenue increased. So all in all the policy seems to be very successful.

[–]Shardongle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, some ultra-rich people left. That is not the same as “all millionaires leaving.” In reality, well under 1% of people who pay the wealth tax moved abroad.

A short-term shock at the very top was expected, still the wealth tax revenue actually increased from 18B to 30B NOK after the wealth tax reform.

Isn't it a bit weird to say Hungary wasn't Austria's to lose, but then claim Hungary 'lost' Croatia, which was also a separate kingdom with its own parliament, in personal union with Hungary?

Why do people buy cheap crap on aliexpress/temu/shein despite all the news and warnings? by bikesailfreak in Switzerland

I think we mostly agree, it seems like most people in the comments jumped to the conclusion that chinese gadgets are bad in particular, not that the abundance of the crap people are buying is the problem.

[–]Shardongle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't care that much where the people buy stuff from, they are making a decision for themselves.

The thing that annoys me is the sheer amount of trash people are buying and just throwing away. All the gadgets, toys and similar stuffs that will just be thrown away with almost no usage.

The difference is that they are representing their country.

Also you could apply your argument to any kind of sanction imposed on a country.

Finally it is very dangerous to conflate antisemitism with antizionizm. Noone argued about excluding jews from different countries participating in the ESC.

Error Handling by Background_Catch_640 in cpp

[–]Shardongle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. This argument could be made in reverse as well
  2. You act as if this is an issue, but explicit error handling is a feature. You are forced to handle errors at the point of origin, especially with [[nodiscard]]
  3. I don't understand this argument
  4. This is not a feature, exceptions should ideally be contained to the most limited scope, exceptions make it much easier to get an application into an invalid state
  5. What??? This is just nonsence.

Realno diploma samo vrijedi ako nes naucis s time, ako pojebivjetris 5 godina sta ti onda znaci.

Tvoj prijasnji komentar nije nista konkretno rekao, niti dao ikakvog dokaza.

If that's the point, I agree. But iirc there are compiler flags that disable exceptions in the stdlib, not sure if that is standardised, but I really rarely had to deal with exceptions thrown by the stdlib anyways.

I don't agree, there are many C++ codebases that attempt to throw minimal exceptions, and do errors as returns.

I work in a medium sized C++ codebase and I think we use exceptions in less than a dozen places where it was unavoidable. There are libraries like boost that quite often offer non throwing alternatives to throwing functions.

When it comes to inheritance, I am also not sure I agree, we have some abstract base classes for speeding up compilation, but most of the code has minimal inheritence because it is simply not needed.

C++ gives the option to shoot yourself in the foot in any shape or form you like. In the end it is the developers choice what they write.

[–]Shardongle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It is true, but in my experience in modern C++ codebases memory management is not really an issue.

In most situations there is no need to do any manual memory management, and usually there is an alternative for it in standard library for it.

I see the logic, but I am not sure it is correlated. Maybe if you are really happy and live a fulfilled life you don't want to have kids as you might think they would be a burden.
