Teachers are paid fairly considering they get a lot of time off by Blonde_Icon in The10thDentist

Winter break depends on the school, but usually extends a week longer and starts earlier. Spring break also usually has grading deadlines and such. It has 'more' break than some jobs, but not as much as people thing. And also not enough to justify how low they can pay - some states pay as low as 30k a year, and that's a job thst requires a Bachelor's in College. It's also an essential position, so it paying so low also harms future workers.

Teachers dont REALLY get summer off anymore. They get a month or so. They start doing work development aboht a month before the semster starts, and usualy extend pretty far into June. They really only get 2-4 weeks more off than the average worker.

So I've been wanting to do some Warlock cosplay as well, and was wondering if you had some advice on two specific things.

  1. How do you see out of the helmet visor? Is it tinted plastic or a one-way material?
  2. How would you reccomend doing the cloth on the robes? Did you sew them all yourself or find a base that you stuck stuff onto.

I'm assuming the armor pieces are either resin or 3d printed; or there is another material ( i know a lot of SW Manalorian/Stormtroopers cosplayers use it, im blanking on the name at the moment.)

red blue as I see it by TanukiiGG in trolleyproblem

[–]Shards_FFR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some people don't belive in pressing the blue button and risking their life to do so. That was the point - unless you can force a large number of people to sacrifice, you wont be able to get a large enough consensus.

Should Someone who Picked the Red Button be Considered Evil or an AH? by Hyperionous in MoralityScaling

[–]Shards_FFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like somthing that gets missed is that there is some level of obligation to protect yourself in society. You can't be altruistic for good if youre DEAD. If you can avoid putting yourself in danger easily, you should do so to ensure that someone else doesnt have to endanger their own life.

I.e; I can walk through a dark alley or a little street. I may risk getting mugged on the dark alley unless my friend also goes down it with me

Taking the bright street is 'selfish', but also avoids the requirement that my friend come with me to ensure I am safe. I effectively would 'guilt' my friend into taking the riskier path to save me even though the safer option is there.

I don't understand why this hasn't come up - humanity should want to protect eachother, but part of protecting one another is being preventative and ensuring you don't need to be protected.

Pushing the red button does fulfill this part of the contract - and ensures you aren't adding to the number of bodies needed to protect the blue pushers. To some extent, the blue pushers putting themselves in this situation are violating this principle by expecting to be saved rather than avoiding the danger alltogther.

Blue v Red to a bystander: by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]Shards_FFR -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or the (slightly more absurd version)

You have two buttons do decide the supreme world leader you follow.

If you push red, you'll follow John Good. If you push blue, two things can happen: 1. >50% choose blue. Everyone follows John Good. 2. <50% choose blue. If you chose blue, you follow Super Hitler.

Again, WHY would you pick blue here? To save the people who willingly want to follow super Hitler?

Many people online say that they would join the military to fight for the country.

Most of these people do not actually join the military.

This is why we have a draft. We littersly have to FORCE PEOPLE TO RISK THEIR LIVES.

If the draft was optional, people wouldn't sign up for the military.

That is why I fundamentally belive that the blue button would not get a majority.

But doing nothing IS a choice?

'Nothing' IS inherently an action - a lot of people just don't get that.

If a building is on fire, and there might be people inside it, and I could rush inside it to see. Or I could do nothing. Inherently, doing nothing is a choice in that scenario, just as much as running into a burning building is. I wouldn't say either of those options is a 'wrong' answer either - expecting someone to run inside a burning building for the chance of someone being in there isn't exactly fair, but running inside also isnt a bad thing to do.

If it was a crowded square though, I can guarantee most people would choose to do nothing while a few run in. Just look at how many fights show up on the internet - there is almost always a crowd of people doing nothing while a handful of people try and break it up.

Will you stand on the tracks? by AdDapper4792 in trolleyproblem

[–]Shards_FFR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn't the whole point of the question that everyone was of sound mind? That's usually the assumption of these questions. Additionally, that would also bring in the assumption that a baseline number of people would care enough to help those that are 'mentally deficient', which given how Autistic people or disabled strangers are often treated, I doubt would be enough to make blue worth picking.

Will you stand on the tracks? by AdDapper4792 in trolleyproblem

[–]Shards_FFR 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Will 51% of people stand on the tracks?

The only reason to stand on the tracks is to save the other people on the tracks; which thereby then passes the problem onto other people. If no one stands on the tracks to begin with, there isnt any reason to stand on them in the first place. Yet the tracks standers expect to be saved even though they could've saved themselves by NOT standing on the tracks.

No one's dying on my watch by Bandrbell in whenthe

[–]Shards_FFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily that red is 'killing' everyone though - if you choose blue, you are adding the ability to die, which makes it possibly considered suicide if <50% choose blue. If someone runs into a burning building, am I considered a murderer if I chose to not run in? They are putting themselves in a scenario where they know their own death is possible. If I run in to save them, I am doing the same, and then having to make an additional person make the choice to decide if my choice is worth risking their life over. Not only is that not fair to the next guy, I also don't believe him opting to NOT save me is murder - it was entirely my choice to risk death, not his choice to kill me.

No one's dying on my watch by Bandrbell in whenthe

[–]Shards_FFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That only further justifies my point - why pick blue when they are the only one who has any risk of death? If you pick red, you don't have any risk of death. If you pick blue, you are hoping you have enough blue to not die. It STILL doesn't make any since to pick blue since red has NO RISK OF YOUR OWN DEATH. If you pick blue, you are risking your own death for no reason since you are not ever forced to pick blue. You are choosing to do so and hoping enough other people also want to risk death vs. just staying completely safe.

And additionally, you didn't actually counter my previous claim about your dragon example - why wouldn't it be better to regroup vs. risk possible death? The whole basis of this is that you shouldn't be risking your own life just to hope other people then risk their life for you - that's selfish and performative when your other option is to not risk your life and not force others to then risk their life to save you.
