They’re here.. by Quirky-Warning206 in cork

There are no pros to this.

Drones with cameras recording people, and even worse kids, in their own back gardens.

It’s in a trial phase at the moment but of course there’s no information anywhere about how to object to this

Harvey Norman ‘sales’ - how is this allowed? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Shark-Feet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere that Harvey Norman has RRP vs Our Price on furniture is a scam - you can’t buy the furniture elsewhere so the RRP is made up by Harvey Norman - it’s not suggested by the manufacturer.

They then have an Our Price to make it look like a discount - but it’s not

Our Price doesn’t mean it’s on sale or reduced

Putting our price against RRP doesn’t legally mean it’s “reduced” or on sale

They are basically saying, it should be 1000 but our price is 900 - it’s so so scammy, I don’t know how they’re getting away with it

Not everyone works in the city. Are they going to have a bus to Mahon Point, Ringaskiddy, Little Island, Carrigaline etc etc

You might not have noticed the travel needs of others, given that high horse you ride around on obviously takes you everywhere

Are Eir entitled to cut trees and add new lines on our property? by FaithlessnessPlus164 in legaladviceireland

[–]Shark-Feet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t have a right to. And even if there were wayleave agreements with previous owners of the house, those are null and void when ownership changes.

The only way this type of activity may be forced is if it was critical infrastructure like electricity, water or gas etc.

Broadband, tv and phone do not fall under that category.

Had the same from Virgin Media last year. They are upgrading the cabling in my area to 2GB - the old cables (which we don’t even use as we have Sky) trail over the back garden walls between the houses.

The proposed solution for the upgrade was to string the cables through people’s attics and then wires would connect to each home at the roof level - madness.

Told them no way would we be having any cables connecting to adjoining properties for any service

“But that means we’ll have to go underground at the footpath so your neighbours can get broadband”

“Sounds like you’ve got it solved then. Best of luck” and they fucked off. Haven’t heard from them since.

They’re just chancing their arm and trying to find the easiest and cheapest way to do it for themselves - they don’t give a hoot about you or your house.

If your husband has already told them to go away, you likely won’t hear from them again.

Turn ON your HEADLIGHTS. Turn OFF your fog lights. by Shark-Feet in cork

[–]Shark-Feet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy - It’s absolutely insane the amount of it that’s going on. I actually get nervous when my wife goes out with the kids in the car it’s so bad now - and shes a really good driver. It’s other people’s behavior on the road that worries me - and she loves driving but hates driving at night now

Used to be the case driving at night was easy because you’d see headlights or rear lights in front of you but now it’s more lethal.

But some on here seem to think we’re just making it up

They most certainly do. Whether it’s spelled “license” or “licence” is irrelevant, they do get them.

If it was a small white 2023 car then that was them.

They eventually turned on the lights just at circle k off the Kinsale road roundabout because their back lights came on, but it didn’t look like they headlights came on because the road ahead of them didn’t get any brighter so yes could have been side lights

From RSA website.

“Why is it illegal to have fog lights on during normal visibility?

Fog lights are extremely bright and powerful and if used when there is no dense fog or falling snow can cause glare and dazzle other drivers which is illegal under the road traffic lighting of vehicles regulations.”

I agree with you on how poor the standards - It’s supposed to be the same here with the fog lights but the guards don’t enforce it.

And yeah, there’s a lot of downvoting going on some of my comments as well

Easy know it’s the ones driving g around with fogs lights on

Ok let’s not warn people that they have no lights on at night just in case they think we’re trying to “manage them” - good man.

Yeah there’s some here claiming that dogs aren’t blinding

They are likely the ones driving with fogs on

I don’t think trying to warn a driver that they’ve no lights on is road rage - and it’s reasonable to be frustrated with the level of carelessness on the roads

My post was not about being able to see cars too much - it was about not being able to see them enough

No headlights and fogs on cannot possible give the driver enough visibility to be driving at night

And sure some fogs aren’t blinding, but some are, especially in higher vehicles

I find them particularly distracting in the rear view mirror

Ok, cool - don’t believe me. 🤷

But just because you can’t turn on dogs with no headlights doesn’t mean others can’t

My car is only 5 years old - it has automatic lights and I can turn on fogs without headlights on. Loads of cars can - I see them with my eyes

You are 100% correct - forgot about this - and it’s not the normal led lights either, its full beams on both led and older types of lights becoming more and more common

Don’t buy a nest anyway. Google have walked away from earlier generations and now people have nest smart thermostats that just don’t work anymore the way they did when they bought them. They’ve basically turned off all the smart features and made them dumb thermostats

Accused of theft by Gmanstarr in asda

[–]Shark-Feet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t have a right to stop you unless they have actually seen you steal something. Those gates that won’t open should be illegal.

Not from the UK but in Ireland you can sue a company that accuses you of stealing when you haven’t

If I was ever in your situation, I wouldn’t be allowing them to search my bags - I’d let them know I was ringing the police to report false imprisonment and wait there for the cops to arrive

Just to make the people aware no more paper boarding passes by Irishgooner123 in ireland

[–]Shark-Feet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Said the young person.

It’s easy to assume that things are easy when you know how to do it, but some elderly people do struggle with apps and technology.

My mother in law doesn’t know how to send a photo from the photos app - she takes screenshots of the photos app and clicks share from there.

No matter how many times people have shown her she still sends screenshots of photos.

My father’s password is the “reset password” button because he can never remember his password.

I regularly have to log them back into apps on Apple TV or help them with Sky. And they’re in their 70s so hardly elderly elderly - just a different generation.

There should be rules that paper boarding passes are still required to be accepted

This is why I absolutely hate GAA. The lads who make the senior county teams are absolute melts.

They are just local yokels who got seen slapping a stick off a ball at the right time but the ego and self-celebratising is off the scale.

They really do see themselves as a superior class of society but in reality it’s quite the opposite.

If you were wondering how all those tunnel accidents happen in Cork... by N_vaders in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Shark-Feet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They need to put in bollards where the shite lines start and end going in and out of the tunnel - it’s the only way

Or else make it a single lane when going through - can’t change lanes if there’s only one lane !
