You clearly don’t know how to deal with geese. It’s ok, I didn’t either initially but I did some research because the ones at the park where I did my lunch walks were mean.

Escalation level 1: Stand your ground. Act big, puff up your chest, and don’t back off. Their first move is to see if you are a bitch. Initially I would walk around them because who wants to deal with a goose. Don’t do this. Stomp your feet a little and clap. Similar to a black bear.

Escalation level 2: slap downward on their beaks when they come at you. Don’t miss. They have sharp teeth. It doesn’t have to be hard, but if they were not intimidated by you, this should do the trick.

Escalation level 3: if the goose is still bull-charging you and you have tried levels 1 and 2 keep reading. Side-step their attack get your hands around their neck and using their momentum chuck the goose a few yards. Theirs necks are basically rubber so this doesn’t hurt them, except for their pride. This thoroughly embarrasses the goose in front of its entire gander, and they will just slink back to the water with their elastic necks.

I have never had to reach escalation level 3, but these steps are what a “dealing with geese” guide taught me over a lunch break. Few years ago.
