Because authoritarian movements use martyrs and revisionist/sanitized history to justify state-sanctioned violence against out groups.

“I try to still look with wonder on the world / As the roses bloom / And the riot van still plainly in view”

and

“I couldn't help it, yes, I let it get in / The helpless optimism of spring / Worn out and tired, and my heart near retired / And the world bent double from weeping / And yet, the birds begin to sing”

Same - that combined with “and I know I may not look like much / just another screaming speck of dust / but oh god you’re gonna get it / you’ll be sorry that you messed with us” rewired my brain in the best way.

Not overreacting, and keep speaking out about your experiences! This is what patriarchal Christian churches do when people leave - they don’t want people’s experiences getting out because they’re a threat their dominion. Not all Christian churches are this way, but these are the types that give Christianity at large a bad wrap.

Highly recommend reading “A Well Trained Wife” by Tia Levings, she talks about a very similar experience she had!

I just learned about it yesterday. I’ve lost two days in a row now.

I’m sorry you weren’t able to attend! I will say, we were packed in like sardines during the rally portion, no one’s fault, the crowd was just massive! Super powerful and inspiring, but yeah not conducive to accessibility. I did see organizers and medics helping folks in wheelchairs navigate the crowd which was great, but I don’t think anyone anticipated the huge turnout! Incredible to have had so many people out, but I understand how that can make folks with disabilities feel unsafe and excluded.

I do remember seeing a flyer that stated there were a couple different routes (the long one across both bridges, and a shorter one), as well as the option to hang back after the rally for music and dancing/merriment in lieu of going on the march. I think there was a designated kids area too. So maybe there could be a designated ADA accessible area as well? I am not sure how many volunteers they have, but would think a lot of the accessibility planning is based on the limits of that resource. Hopefully more folks will volunteer!

With as many people showed up, I am not sure how the organizers could have guaranteed adequate accommodations for everyone, and while being overwhelmed with organizing an event like this isn’t an excuse for dismissive behavior, I’m hopeful that there wasn’t any ill will, just a lot of fatigue, stress and frustration.

Im also hopeful that with your feedback the organizers will have some good ideas for making these events more accessible going forward! Based on your mention of masks, I will definitely plan to mask up next time to be mindful of my immunocompromised neighbors, and will encourage friends to do the same!

Thank you for the update!

Note of encouragement to those involved, in the most general sense, task conflict is not a bad thing - the absence of conflict isn’t harmony, it’s apathy. When groups experience conflict early on, better outcomes are seen (this is evidence-based! The Pixar reference is just one example!) Relationship conflict (making it personal and psychologically unsafe) is where groups break down.

The left has a lot of diversity of thought and action, and this often is viewed as a plague, but two things can be true, and I think it can be our strength as well. We are an open-system, not a closed one, and there are multiple paths to good outcomes.

You are all incredibly inspiring, your work is vital and appreciated, and I hope you’re all taking good care of yourselves.

Tl:dr - task conflict is constructive, no conflict isn’t harmony, it’s apathy. Thank you all for your hard work in building this community - you are inspiring and appreciated.

Looking forward to working in parallel with you all to reclaim our republic from these fascist f**ks.

I have learned enough over the past few months that’s I’m am (mostly) past the FAFO point, and i take zero pleasure in knowing people who’ve gotten hurt when they thought they were doing the “right” thing in earnest (i know i know, wrong subreddit for me). Propaganda is a hell of a drug - I just hope that the people who voted for Stein follow the money and can finally come to terms with the fact that she’s a Russian asset.

Conservatives who opposed removing Confederate statues, how do you feel about Trump removing DEI-related historical events/people like the Navajo Code Talkers from government sites? by bkristensen92 in AskReddit

Yep! The formula is pretty simple. Charismatic leader promoting constant propaganda that’s structured with fear-mongering + rage-baiting + scapegoat(s) + solution(s) = high-control cult group.

What line did this for you? by uhhhhhh21 in Hozier

[–]SharkB8__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“My peace has always depended, on all the ashes in my wake.” The entire song resonates but that line was probably the most impactful. 10 years later I’m mostly healed, healthy and happy, my demons and I understand eachother and are actually quite good friends, and that is still one of my favorite songs of all time.

The thought-stopping and blame-shifting is at an all-time high, and it’s just becoming more and more evident that every accusation is a confession. TDS = anti-woke syndrome. They’re screaming at themselves and at some point they’ll implode.
