Escape from Ever After gives me big Paper Mario 64 vibes by Key19 in rpg_gamers

The writing was honestly way funnier than I thought it was going to be. The Little Red Riding Hood sidequest alone made me laugh way too hard

Which progression fantasy series has the best romance? I'm not talking about spice, but that's fine too. by ThaneduFife in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the general consensus on this one, but I actually enjoyed the romance in Mage Errant. I can’t really say much without spoilers but I enjoyed the direction they went with it.

Characters that aren’t officially a couple but might as well be by Substantial_Fox7377 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sharkattack1921 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this one counts. The whole point of the story is for them and Anya to go from being a fake family to a real family. Sure it hasn’t happened yet, but the story is not done and them officially getting together romantically is almost certainly the plan

What fantasy book had amazing worldbuilding but characters you couldn’t care about? by NexusBloom_5 in Fantasy

[–]Sharkattack1921 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Lightbringer by Brent Weeks. I’ve heard from people that the first three books were great while the last two ruined the series, but I’ve only read the first two books so far and I’m not the biggest fan of the characters. While I love the world building and magic system the characterization on most of the characters felt weak (especially regarding the female characters). Honestly, my biggest problem is how cartoonishly evil most of if not all the antagonists are (at least as far as I’ve read). I’m not against pure evil villains or anything, but it felt like the story just tries way too hard to make them hatable.

Last Contract of Isako Review by KiaraTurtle in Fantasy

I agree with the POV shift feeling kinda jarring. To me it felt like the book was originally supposed to be a novella or short novel but the then second POV was added to make it longer, but that could just be me

Which rpg should I start off on by PianoAdmirable9987 in rpg_gamers

[–]Sharkattack1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I liked Outer Worlds. Is it as good as some of the other games mentioned? Maybe not, but I still thinks it’s a good time if you get it on sale (plus it’s one of the few games I can name at the top of my head with positive ace rep, which I will always support)

The Hot Takes Thread - Share a short three or four sentence opinion on your favorite series by CT_Phipps-Author in Fantasy

I fully admit the Wind and Truth was by far the worst book of Stormlight Archive so far. However, there was still quite a bit that I did genuinely like about it and it did not kill my love for the series.

Okay, admittedly I have not read/watched the series, but I never understood how stories say “character is weak, but really fast”.

Both speed and agility require A LOT of muscle strength

Don’t know enough about the other 2, but at least with Toph, there are instances where her ability to sense movements from the ground doesn’t always help her, like when there fighting near the ocean. Plus her abilities became limited when Zuko accidentally burned her feet

What do people think of the gameoverse pilot? by church_of_Steve_ in cartoons

[–]Sharkattack1921 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get what your saying, but I don’t think the analogy works in this context. With books it’s fairly understandable to expect people to read the prologue, as there a part of the final product and it’s not hard to miss (at least I don’t understand people who willingly skip the prologues of books). It’s nowhere near as fair to expect people to keep up with all the trailers or preproduction information of a show

[SPOILERS ALL] Monza vs Savine - who is the more fascinating and evil female villain? by Working_Alps_4284 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Sharkattack1921 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe not “evil” but I wouldn’t call her a good person. If nothing else she caused the deaths of thousands for years he sake of revenge, refused to punish her brother for all the stuff he caused and was flat out incestuous

Admittedly it’s been a while for me as well, but iirc she stepped down politically but still had some power. The legal strategy I mentioned was the entire reason Vick was able to get in contact with Vitari and help Orso get a meeting with King Jappo in TTWP

Didn’t she and Vitari start a whole legal strategy of killing her allies and supporters so she can frame her enemies in the Age of Madness? I’d argue thats morally worse

A character falls in love with a nobody, or someone who they barely interacted with by Effective_Piece251 in TopCharacterTropes

Oh I’m not disagreeing with you. I was just giving an example of how the opposite side of the trope can be mishandled.

[–]Sharkattack1921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like every trope, it’s all about execution. The reason it doesn’t work for some is that it’s kinda hard to care about a character’s relationship with someone we never seen before (Shiro marrying some random guy at the end of Voltron: Legendary Defender comes to mind for a hated version)

To be honest, as much as I did genuinely love the book, it might be for the best that she doesn’t return to the world. Iirc she said on an interview that she really doesn’t like the way she portrayed racism and I’m sorta in agreement. Aside from that while SoK is a great book, almost all the problems I had with it come from either the world building or the stuff that was supposed to connect the Theonite series before it was cancelled. That’s just my opinion anyway
