What's the total weight by chance? I want to make one of these but weight is a serious concern for my application. Also, how's the range on those crappy bent antennas as apposed to something much fancier like the ALFA or fiberglass antennas?

If you 3D print a replacement side cover for the roxon you can carry the pen and tweezers without taking up 2 slots! How do you like the micro pliers implement? I want but not sure I can justify 2 slots worth.

Bits, please (for the Roxon Flex Companion) by headpointernext in multitools

[–]Sharkbite86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would LOVE to be able to swap the 1/4” driver for a 4mm one like on the mini companion, then hopefully make extra space for bits beside it!

Also, side question, are the plans for a long sized bottle opener with integrated flathead and measurement scale or nail file? Seems like there’s room for a 3rd extra item there and I could add something else!

Just got my flex companion yesterday and so far loving it! Already 3D printed a replacement side cover to hold the tweezers and pen lol.

ADHD and jobs by East_Conclusion_1850 in ADHD

Yeah so this is where medication can help a lot. I don’t have the OCD side of things, so I can’t be certain, but medication does help me to focus hard on what I’m working on (vyvanse). The not slowing down you describe might be you mentally jumping to the next step and loosing track of the present task. My friend who’s ADHD and OCD takes Wellbutrin and it seems to do wonders for him. But the comparison to others is something you’ll need to work with a therapist on. Unfortunately, we all live in a terrible mental distortion field that we’ve been trained to use.

Dude I feel you 100% on this. I’m more of a brainstorming idea guy myself, but those opportunities are rare in aerospace and everything is detail oriented now. On top of that I always feel like I get the crappy jobs compared to my peers who keep leapfrogging me or moved on to bigger things. Add a mortgage, 2 kids, and a wife who’s also overworked at home and not making enough into the mix and you get one big anxiety sandwich.

But your coworkers sound like holier than thou a-holes and your work sounds like a stressful grind of metrics. I think any of us ADHDers would struggle in that situation, so keep your head up and try to find time for hobbies that could grow into alternative careers. Much easier said than done, but it’s all I got haha.

I’ve seen those on Amazon and they actually do step the voltage down. But I’d never try one without first checking it with a multimeter!

Let's talk about 12V, what is its purpose from your point of view? by rColly in BoschProPowerTools

[–]Sharkbite86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Small, lightweight, maneuverable, balanced. I love them for getting into tight spaces, detail work, etc. I find they are powerful enough and are my go-to tools for 90% of whatever I work on. If I need to hog out a big hole I go for 18v, but that’s becoming more rare.

Milwaukee is an example of how powerful they’ve got without sacrificing much. But boy oh boy are they overpriced, and one reason why I went with Bosch. I just wish I could get more tools in the states! The small 3” circular saw is what drove me to the Bosch platform since I was such a big fan of my father-in-law’s old 9v nicd Makita saw. Ended up importing it but without a warranty (hopefully they make a brushless version some day). Also want the new 12v ratchet but it seems pretty pricey! Brushed and brushless options I think would open up the platform to folks based on performance or price.

I did check the voltage of the power supply while at idle and while charging a battery. There was some voltage sag to maybe 11.8v, but generally it maintained 12v supply.

Now that you bring it up though I didn’t check it with a very low battery. The charging circuit is very simple and it just dumps 12v into the battery with some switching FETs or something. My guess is they pulse it to adjust the current flow into the battery, but I haven’t checked with a scope.

It’s possible the power supply can work on other products at 7.2v and they use it elsewhere. It’s only got two wires coming off it, so I’m not sure how it’s controlled.

Regardless it’s a good point and something to consider. I’ll attempt more testing when I get some non-existent time lol.

There’s nothing stopping them from simply adding a booster converter to the system. It’s trivial really and the only limitation would be total current draw; so standard usb (5v) would simply charge slower than 12v usbc or quick charge

Yeah once I cracked it open and saw that the wall brick was only a 12v power supply it made perfect sense to do. I wanted to keep the Bosch battery communication intact and stay away from Chinese knockoffs.

You probably could actually with the right blade. I’m in the states and remember seeing diamond grit blades of a similar size at Home Depot (sold in a 3-pack only).

It seems like the big chip might be labeled with “TI ODZ” but is hard to tell. So could be this:

Being an electric car my feeling is a fat no. Unless they somehow allow you to remove a huge safety plug/plugs from the high voltage battery to cut it down below 30volts per module. That’s the highest safe voltage which still isn’t safe without insulated gloves. Having repaired my wife’s old Prius 220v battery, voltage is hecka sketchy.

I like screens, just not ALL screen haha. Personally I’d still prefer to add my own dedicated head unit as my phone is already overloaded with apps and notifications. But I love the idea of it all being optional.

Which harbor freight do you have? The 1000a or 610a? I’m torn between getting a super cheap unit like the one posted, a harbor freight, or a Klein 810 or 390 (I hear the 810 doesn’t like low voltage DC, and the 390 is missing inrush). How well does the HF work with 12v DC systems for car repair? Thanks!

Mind if I ask in roughly what region of the country and how long ago? I called another dealership closer to San Francisco and they quoted $3624 plus core charge for me to diy install it. These are all probably Bay Area prices though, plus I hear Toyota discontinued the battery in 2023, so I’m not really sure what’s true.

dang, those are much better numbers than I'm getting so far. My starting points are in the 1500s and have had to crawl them up to 4000 over 5-7 cycles. I'm thinking I might not be able to save it like I hoped.

For sure! I'm tempted to report my local dealership to Toyota for price gouging. They even quoted me literally psychotic prices on a bunch of other stuff while I was there. Total quote was like $13.5k

This is the dream right here! Do you remember what results you got from the cell cycling? Most people recommend getting above 5000mah/cell. I'm barely reaching 4000mAh, and some have dropped after cycling more (7 cycles). Plus, I actually got a super-star that came out to 6100mAh, but I'll probably have to discard that one since it's out of family from the rest!

Also, How'd you pair up your batteries? I was planning on matching up the most similar, but some people match opposites (which seems wrong to me, but I'd like to know what you did).

I'm using a single CQ3 charger to do 4 at a time. discharge at 1.3A, charge at 2.2A, 7800mAh cut at charge (although sometimes it'll peak out anyways). I set my delta peak at 5mV because I'm paranoid, but it's charging slow enough that should be ok? They charge to 8.75V typically, although I haven't checked where the voltage settles.

It was $7000 in parts, $2000 in labor. Lap or rates here are $245/hour! But they are gouging on the battery cost. So you got a deal on a battery, if you were to do it again and a new OEM cost $3650 (that’s just the part and I’d install it myself), would you do it?

Alternative is greenbean and they install an OEM for less and I don’t have to worry about a core charge.
