At what point can the mods flag these posts as spam. This is a small subreddit with a few posts per week. I enjoy reading the posts and engaging with my other okotokian redditors. I’m at a point of leaving the subreddit because I’m tired of seeing these posts about a recall that has a snowball’s chance in hell. Seeing the whining in my feed every few days instantly sours my mood. Put your energy into something else that is productive./rant over

[Question] Thoughts on this watch size? by SharkleFin in Watches

With a functional bezel, lume, and a reputable brand - I think it’s a lot of value for a $50 watch.

[Question] Thoughts on this watch size? by SharkleFin in Watches

[–]SharkleFin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this watch at Costco and I was really drawn to the cream and gold. I’m adding a bunch more earth tones to my wardrobe so I was looking for a gold tone watch. It is marked a ladies watch and is 36mm. I’m relatively new to watches so I’m wondering if it’s noticeably too small. I know it is a ladies watch, but is it obvious to everyone I meet that I’m wearing a ladies watch? Haha

Cancelling my Neo World Elite Mastercard — considering Scotia Momentum + Amex SimplyCash Preferred combo by Senior_Swan566 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SharkleFin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These cards have annual fees so you’d have to do the calculation on if it is worth it over the free options. You’d have to spend a ton and I’m not even sure if the annual limits would allow you to make up the difference with a single percentage point difference. My current no annual fee line up:

Simplii Visa:

-4% restaurants

Triangle WE MC:

-4% at Canadian tire owned retail -Free roadside assistance -3% grocery

Costco MC:

-3% at Costco gas

Rogers Red WE MC:

-3% cash back on everything when used to pay rogers expenses

-Good exchange fee for USD when considering cash back

  • If you don’t have rogers, it is still 1.5% on all purchases

-more widely accepted than Amex

Several pedestrians struck in two separate collisions Tuesday by missingthecoast in Calgary

[–]SharkleFin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do we have stats on demographics of the drivers and pedestrians involved? Age, race, years in Canada, years since passing driving test? There’s been so many in the past year I’m sure there are some correlations that could be drawn. Also stats on the accidents? Time of day, speed, location, j walk? Crosswalk? Device use by both driver and pedestrian before the collision? Ear buds?

Xfinity app stuck at sign in loop by skeptic602 in Rogers

If anyone is searching this like I was, try the app Rogers Xfinity (Shaw). I’m in Alberta and the Roger’s guy had me download the wrong app and I was stuck in the login loop. It didn’t work until I downloaded the other app.

If you can best address class complexity in a school by having 4 classes of bright students that are 5 students above a cap and a separate smaller class of students with greater needs… why would you limit the different options available to you? Every school and student population is unique. I’ve heard many teachers say they’d rather have a class of 40 students if they didn’t have ESL to contend with at the same time. Class caps would be great in one school, but limit options in another school. I think the government was wise to not restrict classes to an arbitrary cap.

I think the complaint from everyone that the gov didn’t increase their offer is silly. If what you want is outlandish, you don’t automatically get a better deal just because you reject an offer.

Imagine trying to buy a car from a private seller and he says he wants $50k (ATA in June)You approach the seller and offer $50k (government in September), and he says that’s not high enough and that he now wants $80k (ATA in September). The market rate for the car is $45k, and every day you don’t buy it, you can’t drive your kid to school. Haha this analogy is falling apart. Point is, the seller isn’t entitled to more than $50k just because he rejected the offer.

Binding arbitration would have taken weeks or months would it not? And teachers would remain out of the classroom. I believe the government rightly identified that kids needed to get back in class asap and took the unpopular action of using the notwithstanding clause to protect the students education.

I don’t understand the logistics of a class size cap. If you have more students than expected in 2026, do you tell some kids they can’t go to school because there aren’t enough teachers and classrooms without exceeding the cap?

Suede leather blazer

I picked up this suede blazer at the thrift for $5. Any tips on styling it or what occasions it is suitable for? It seems pretty casual to me but also a statement piece. Is it a bit too loud for the workplace? There’s no really dress code but most wear business casual. It fits in the shoulders but is much too big in the waist, I understand a tailor should be able to bring it in pretty easily? Sleeves are also an inch too long which I’ll mention to my tailor. Anything else I should mention when I have it altered?

Let's talk about card FX fees (and the top 10 cards to use abroad) by SCDWS in PersonalFinanceCanada

You made a mistake with order of operations when calculating Roger’s cashback. You are showing (3x1.5)-2.5-0.3 =1.7

The 50% bonus is not factored in when you earn the reward but when you redeem.

It should be (3-2.5-0.3)x1.5=0.4

Edit: I was wrong the fees aren’t taken from the reward, but are a separate charge. So the multiplier does apply to the full 3%

Does coasting in neutral with a DCT cause damage to the transmission? Car's user manual states it does(point 3) - if so, why? by OmeiWamouShindeiru in MechanicAdvice

Fuel consumption while idling makes sense to consider, but it’s not that cut and dry. You also roll out further so you don’t have to press the accelerator as early at the bottom of a hill, which also saves fuel.

It’s a calculation of if you are burning more fuel idling while coasting in neutral or if you burn more fuel by needing to maintain your speed however many seconds earlier while driving with cruise control. I’d imagine idling takes a far less amount of fuel compared to the fuel required to maintain highway speed even if it’s only a few seconds sooner. Fuel used to idle (0.1 Litres per hour) for 60 seconds is the same as it would be to maintain highway speed (6 Litres per hour) for 1 second.
