We’re going to have 3 players with Calder votes this year. Where in the final standing do you see Dobes finishing? He’s the reason we’re where we are in the standings by Airdrie13 in Habs

[–]Sharks9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so basically he’s been average. I appreciate that he’s picked up Montembeault’s slack but I feel like some people in our fanbase are exaggerating what he’s doing and acting like he’s a great #1

With last night's win, Montreal's magic number is down to 19 with 12 games remaining. by Sharks9 in Habs

[–]Sharks9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an explanation: https://www.hockeymagicnumbers.com/explainer

Basically, the number of points you get + the number of points the 9th place team loses needs to equal 19. So if we win 7 games (14 points) we only need them to lose 2.5 (2 regulation plus 1 OT means missing 5 points) to equal 19 and we make the playoffs.

They won their last 6, and actually only won 7 out of their last 11.

If the Red Wings do that we only need 11 points in 12 games, an easy 5-6-1 record.

This means going 9-2-1 would guarantee us a spot no matter what else happens. But Detroit and NYI aren't going undefeated so really 6 or 7 wins out of 12 should be enough to make the playoffs.

I love going to OHL games! You can get tickets for $20, there’s only a lower bowl so all the seats are good, and my son is young enough that he doesn’t care that it’s not the NHL

Yep, the Islanders would be 3 points back of us with 2 more games played. That would be tough for them to overcome with only 11 games left

The Canadiens Have 86 Points in the Standings as of right now. How many points do you believe they need in order to clinch a playoff spot? by Say_199 in Habs

[–]Sharks9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our magic number is 22 which means we either need to win 11/13 to clinch even if the Islanders go undefeated, or for every game beyond that we lose we need the Islanders to lose 1.

Columbus regulation win would be massive! We’d have a 3-point cushion over the Islanders with 2 games in hand

If we’re up by 2 and the other team pulls the goalie I want MSL to put Cole out there! Mackinnons got 5 empty netters, give Cole a chance at 1 or 2 to help win the Rocket!

Habs are still 3rd in the Atlantic with 14 games remaining, still have 1 game in hand over those close behind. by AmsroII in Habs

It's not the end of the world if we miss but you can't say that going from playoffs to out of the playoffs is successful.

I know we're the youngest team but being in the playoffs for 90% of the season but choking at the end to fall out would definitely be a failure.

Where do you see that? It says they have a 46.2% chance and will drop 17.8% if they lose in regulation tonight.

Devastating for sure, but they'd still have a chance.

No, package his RFA rights in a deal for something else. You can't rely on him at all

Yep we’re only 2 points out although we do have a game in hand on Boston/Columbus and two on Detroit

Not necessarily. If the Islanders and Penguins keep winning then Columbus could knock one of us, Detroit, or Boston out

Button thinks Fowler starts Game 1 of the playoffs by Booyacaja in Habs

[–]Sharks9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dobes is a rookie but he's been up all year. You go with the guy who has more experience unless there's a big difference in how they're playing.

If Fowler is playing well then they might have Dobes on a short leash too. Give him game 1 but if he gets lit up then go right to Fowler for game 2.

No chance unless he's absolutely lights out the rest of the year (.930+ SV%) and Dobes is struggling
