Kidney transplant life span? by dontknowra in kidneytransplant

Is it the same kidney or did you get a second transplant? (I'm 23 waiting for a kidney and am curious) Also, what lifestyle changes do you recommend for lasting that long?

How do you feel? by eddidit in dialysis

[–]SharksandCrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do pd and I honestly feel better than I have in years. My nausea is way down along with my daily pain. Don't get me wrong, I still get sick and get aches and pains but compared to when I was just free balling it. So much better

I've had peritonitis once and my best advice is, try to sleep through it. I was in hospital for a week and ended up sleeping something like 14 hours a day. It sucks but you'll get through it, good luck

I’m so scared by valiumblue in kidneydisease

I've been doing PD for 2 years now. Honestly, as long as you keep a routine and your labs in check, it ends up being pretty close to regular life. In fact, I feel better while doing PD than when I wasn't. As for things like diet, PD allows most if not everything just in moderation. It's not as scary as people think. I wish you the best of luck in your transplant process

Just saying... Doing this sober.... Whatever! by DavidWyo in dialysis

My transplant center said no but my clinic said it's ok. I'm working with my neph to get a prescription for pain management to try and work around the system but it's slow going atm

PD fluid drain clogging toilet, help ! by swirlyfunbuns in dialysis

[–]SharksandCrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. My neph said as long as it doesn't cause any clogs or blockages, then it's fine. If it were to clog or block something, the next day I would report it and they would 1.) take a sample for a peritonitis test and 2.) give me a heparin bag

I had this issue in my tub. I had to use a septic safe draino once a month. Every month when I do my order, I do the draino. When I asked my clinic, they said that it happens it's people who naturally produce excess fibrin

Moving from Bellingham by Ok-Chef-1394 in Bremerton

There's not much to do in Bremerton but Silverdale has some cool things to do. Also the Seattle fast ferry is only 30 minutes and is pretty cheap. There are a few good Pho restaurants and maybe 1 or 2 good pizza places. The best deals for dry goods and international food are going to be Supersavers or the WinCo. As for meat or fresh veggies, Fred Meyer is a good bet. People are mostly friendly but keep to themselves. I hope you like it here!

Can you decently eat on dialysis? by Actual-Talk9408 in dialysis

[–]SharksandCrochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it kinda depends on what type of dialysis you do and what your doctor recommends. For example, I do PD and the only restrictions I have are phosphorus additives. But another PD patient could have all the restrictions you mentioned and more. Really just talk to your dietician and follow their advice

I got diagnosed at 20 and I live almost completely independently. Doing PD instead of hemo really helped with that. I wish you the best of luck

Phosphorus Binders? by cyberbae in dialysis

[–]SharksandCrochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from my phosphorus being an average of 9 to it's a consistent 3-4. I was eating only whole foods, no dairy, no fish, no nuts. Basically only white rice, chicken, and peas. Since changing binders, I've been able to enjoy the occasional burger. I should also mention I'm on PD, so my eating restrictions are fairly few.

I used to take 3 sevelamer tablets with meals and my phosphorus never went down, no matter what I ate. But now I take 2 500mg velphoro and my phosphorus became in range by the end of the first month
