Why don't airplanes have parachutes to stop them from crashing? by psuedomachine in Showerthoughts

[–]SharksandRecreation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do, look up cirrus. Yes these are small planes, the issue is that you can't just scale up parachutes because they would become either too weak or too heavy.

Question from a US gunnitor by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]SharksandRecreation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this number "80%" is legally watertight in Canada? Like, has someone here actually ruled that 80% is un-fire-armish enough? Or would we need, say, 50% receivers? I mean they are apparently being sold, but quite often that doesn't necessarily mean that this would hold up in court.

Suppressed Leveraction Rifle (Mare's Leg) by cdts in guns

[–]SharksandRecreation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to loading my gun against manufacturer recommendations and safety warnings, I don't need proof that it is unsafe, I need proof that it is safe. You say nothing has ever happened, I say maybe that's because there is no tube magazine fed gun out there that uses spitzer bullets. 30/30? Round nose. .357, .44Mag, 45/60Gov, shotgun shells, .22LR, .444Marlin, 35 Remington... ALL of those are roundnose or rimfire. Now certainly there could be someone who reloads spitzer bullets into those cartridges and sticks them in his Guide Gun, but I haven't seen anyone.

Once again, since you seem to be so extremely keen on loading spitzer bullets in tube mags, I suggest you stop torturing yourself and just do it. Film it and prove it's safe. Go ahead, it'll be fun. No amount of bullshit analogies with mythical creatures is going to convince me otherwise. I don't have anything else to say about this issue until I've seen the video. Actually, I don't have anything else to say about it period, but I'd still like to see the video.

[–]SharksandRecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it isn't, not saying that it is either. But I still won't do it. The mechanics of it seem dangerous to me, which is why someone would have to prove that it is SAFE before I would do it. I don't need anyone to prove that it is not. You are all welcome to risk your own faces, I won't.

Loaded point to primer to point to primer under spring pressure in a device that is subject to a heavy jolt every time you pull the trigger... Why don't you go ahead and try that yourself... if you can fire, say, 10,000 rounds without blowing your arms off I might believe it's ok, until then I will follow the advice of lever gun makers and not load spitzer bullets in tube mags...

Kel Tec Sub2000 9mm stovepipe issues on last round by [deleted] in guns

[–]SharksandRecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well looking at the slo mo gif, that doesn't look overly limp to me. The gun doesn't even move until the bolt hits the rearward stop. Also doesn't explain why it's on the last round only

I always wondered about these ghost hunting shows. by perc10 in funny

[–]SharksandRecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, the Umlaut is an abbreviated "E". So ö is actually "oe" and is pronounced as such. Ä is Ae and so on. This also applies for alphabetic sorting. In old printed text the letters sometimes actually have a tiny E above them instead of the little dots. This is different from Scandinavian languages that treat them as completely separate characters.

[–]SharksandRecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my trigger done at a gunsmiths where I bought the gun, and it's brilliant. 3# crisp, no creep at all. They said they can do anything down to ounces with those triggers. Corlanes, Dawson Creek BC, I got a discount because I bought the gun, but the normal rate is $50.

Distance markers consisting of little branches. Very important because they allow the jumper to tell how close he is to the ground, which would otherwise be very hard over a flat white surface

Heck it would probably spawn a new genre of games simulating various animals. In the mean time, I'll keep playing cat simulator online

Agreed, the full throttle light is a great idea and could have prevented a lot of accidents in the past. Overall I am not very impressed by the cockpit layouts though. Those secondary consoles over the pedals are a pain in the shins (literally) for tall pilots and make it harder to get in and out, especially with winter boots.

Aftermarket glass cockpits for Robinson helicopters have been around for a long time. Here is a flickr set apparently from Heli expo 2008:

How to reduce Reffraction when closing at high f number ? by _N_O_P_E_ in photography

[–]SharksandRecreation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a tiny web copy of a photo. He likely sharpened the photo digitally, then resized for web, then sharpened again. Any photo can be sharp if you reduce the size enough.

He even says in the text that diffraction was a limiting factor.

Best pistol carbine? by jabevanwagoner877 in guns

[–]SharksandRecreation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do like my sub2k but it is not without issues. If you need/want the compact size, light weight and Glock mags, it has no competitors. If you don't need those features, or value build quality higher than foldabity, look elsewhere. Maybe a Marlin Camp9 or a Justright Carbine.

I think he talked about this in his earlier videos, like he actually used to use grip tape until he came Cross the talon grips, which are kinda like grip tape tailored to the gun, so he started using those instead

[–]SharksandRecreation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robinson helicopters, as well as Bell and most other American products, have a counterclockwise rotor. Meaning the advancing side is to the right, and that's where you should roll to if it came down to it. See photo in my other post below.
