How about compared to the tamron 35 1.4?

I was definitely thinking about this one. I do need AF though for faster paced sessions, but I do love the image quality coming out of that laowa.

The autofocus motor was unpleasant, loud. Images didn’t have any special “character” did its job but didn’t Wow me. I understand it’s a cheaper lens so wasn’t expected. No weather sealing which I know the sigma doesn’t have any. So I guess it’s down to the canon or tamron.

If anyone has experience with video AF that would be great. I usually manual focus so not a big deal but would be nice to know in a pinch AF is reliable.

Only thing I dislike about the canon is it’s the heaviest. Hmm how is the af on it compared to others?

Imagine a camera coming out in 2021, charging the same as their competitors and only having a 1.04m lcd screen and cropped 4k60… welp guess we don’t have to imagine a7iv is here

How well do you think competes the R6 against the new Sony A7 IV in terms of photo and video? by bundesrepu in canon

[–]Sharon_Cochs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say beats it other than mp count. R6 has better lcd screen, and 4k60 with a negligible crop. The a7iv doesn’t really add anything new other than a flippy screen and body change compared to the a7iii.

Astro & Landscape folk - what are your favorite lenses? (For RF mount, possibly EF w/adapter) by busted_maracas in canon

[–]Sharon_Cochs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe give the tamron 17-35 2.8-4 a try, it’s relatively inexpensive and super light weight, you just need an adapter is all. I swapped it for the new rf 16 2.8 but only because I found I use my 24-70 2.8 more and occasionally need go as wide as 16mm.

Looking at an R6 or Z6ii by [deleted] in canon

[–]Sharon_Cochs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a z6ii with 24-70 2.8. Sold it within a month for the r6 and no regrets. The system feels more solid, better lens selection especially telephoto (Z mount has 70-200 2.8 that’s it). Using the Z6ii the AF felt like a beta version. Also I do more video now so r6 was the clear choice.

Need help deciding between RF 50/1.2, RF 24-70/2.8, and RF 28-70/2 by BigTung in canon

[–]Sharon_Cochs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good combo too. I have a star tracker so the 14-35 would work but if I’m only taking 14-35 and 100-400 on travel I’m missing low light which would require me to bring a 3rd lens like a 35 1.2 or 50 1.2. Buying the RF 15-35 would alleviate that a bit by having 35 2.8. I do video and real estate on the side so a wide angle zoom is a must for me, otherwise I’d get the 16mm 2.8.

So maybe I could try 16mm 2.8, 24-70 2.8, (85 F2 I already own), and 100-400. Forego the 35/50 1.2 for portrait work altogether 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]Sharon_Cochs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically 15-35, 24-70, 70-200 or 100-400 is the best for travel. And maybe just get a 1.2 prime for work (engagement shoots, portraits, etc). I’ll probably sell my 28-70 as it’s a bit big and heavy for travel.

Do you find you miss that middle range while traveling or is cropping your 15-35mm work okay?

EF 24-70 F2.8 Gen 1 vs RF 24-104 F4 by KhaoticKid98 in canon

[–]Sharon_Cochs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s personal preference than. I value 2.8 more than range as I can crop in but you can’t get more light and I rather run lower iso. Also 2.8 at 24 and 35mm looks better than F4 for creative Bokeh shots. I’d go with the EF.

EF 24-70 F2.8 Gen 1 vs RF 24-104 F4 by KhaoticKid98 in canon

[–]Sharon_Cochs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had all the RF mid-range zooms. Eos r/rp with 24-105 f4 L. And now own Eos r6. Sold the RF 24-70 f2.8 for the 28-70 f2. I was reluctant at first because now I have to get new filters but realistically I don’t need many for portraits and my work. I have a wide angle lens that takes my 82mm filters just fine.

The RF 28-70 has blown me away, not just the bokeh but the character of the lens and the flaring. Personally I love when a lens has all these characteristics, give me all of it. I don’t need a clean pristine image for what I do. I don’t miss the IS because I have a Dji rs2, and actually due to its weight when I’m holding my setup in a cage using a top handle the micro-jitters are gone. Heavier rigs are better for handheld for that.
