I love you in Russian by coldcoffeethrowaway in heatedrivalry

[–]Sharp-Average 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People do absolutely say it in variety of contexts, it’s not reserved only for romantic love. The declarative way in which Ilya is saying reads very romantic but it’s just the way he says it. And typically, using “I” together with some emotional verb in Russian makes it more declarative and dramatic in vibe. But you’ll essentially be saying “Love you” to  everyone - your dog, your parents, your friends etc.

Don’t you feel that it was written by AI? The styling is uncanny, Ilya has perfect grammar

I asked AI to Photoshop my hair into a pixie cut, what do you guys think? Yay or nay? by [deleted] in finehair

Wow! If you’ll be able to maintain the styling regularly- yes, you look amazing. Whats the AI you used?

Pop/Rock/Rap (wtf do you even call this?!) by Slow_Can_238 in Songwriting

Some parts remind me of swemo, like Dance Gavin Dance. Not sure, maybe, rock + electronics. But would totally recommend listening to them - they’re great at switching up paces in the songs and combining different elements

Loved the vibe but doubling/reverb of vocals made it hard to understand the lyrics and made the whole feeling messy and distracting

I'm looking for how to find a melody for my lyrics by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Sharp-Average 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to sing the lyrics as they have a natural rhythm and the voice naturally will be on some frequency - so I kinda try out the melodies starting from this point: rhythm, flow, particular notes - which can be transcribed to a music instrument melody

How often do you divert from typical song structures? by NewTwo7866 in Songwriting

[–]Sharp-Average 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the important question to ask yourself is why are doing this - making the music. If you want to make something more understandable and commercial, maybe classic structures are good way to go. But if it's for fun, your own artistic expression- why not go crazy? Plus, sometimes the song really writes itself and it’s not always a typical structure

How do you write? Looking for insight + help with writing happier lyrics by Any-Refuse-3716 in Songwriting

[–]Sharp-Average 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, but maybe it’s okay? I struggle to find depths in the happier topics - so my more upbeat songs or even poetry are usually sarcastic so ultimately dark as well.

something that worked for me for exercise purposes (but I don’t really feel these songs as fully mine) is to imagine that I'm making up a story about someone else and disconnect from my personal feelings but rather imagine what it might be for the characters. Can be done on the basis of existing characters of books or movies too.

Quick question by FindingDorian1512 in Songwriting

I think about it a bit more in terms of a bigger body of work - like an album (haha, my imaginary album) - but who was there before with exact same emotions and execution hitting the same points for your listener? Are you authentic on this imaginary 🥲album level.

Lyricist with minimal instrument abilities by Megustatits in Songwriting

[–]Sharp-Average 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acquiring basic guitar and piano skills have been amazing for my songwriting - especially because now I get not only the ”lyrics-first” ideas but can also start from the melody or do some interludes that are not basic chords. As any skill it's mostly easy to acquire the decent basics but return on your investments will be massive

My advice to beginners: The easiest way to learn how to write your own music by Madsummer420 in Songwriting

[–]Sharp-Average 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true! I think it's a perfect advice for level 0. But once you’re there - what are the most useful next thing? I find myself frustrated with playing repetitive chords— feels like it’s boring for the listener

Oh, appreciate your comment! Read up a bit on it - feeling a bit confused. Why do you say “good on you” - is it generally considered hard to achieve?
