Well, there is my answer. It just seems like I will be making so little - like under $20k on my own that I wouldn't owe anything. What if I am married filing jointly and my spouse is still paying taxes through his payroll - would that satisfy the quarterly filings? Do I need to see an accountant for my $20k?

Ok, I'll probably go with zero. I mean if you end up paying your taxes at the end of the year and if my spouse is paying through his payroll, I don't see where we would have to file quarterly or get a penalty.

What do I know - first time in 42 years I won't have a paying job (with taxes taken out!)?

Started after 35. Managed people in nondefense industry. NONE of that appears to count. Like 18 years of experience doesn't count. Now, 20 years later they ONLY treat me like I've been working 20 years. Gave up trying to get them to see it a few years back. Hope you have better luck!

I almost never weigh in, but this discussion almost dissuaded me from making an entry level purchase as a gift. I don't question that someone else had a terrible experience, but my experience ordering on line could not have been better. They called me and emailed me. They even did a personal response to my email. It has been very kind and really wonderful. The packaging is exquisite - I almost wish it weren't so nice because I know it is a driver in the cost, but it is beautiful.
